  1. I don't have 1.2.7 yet gents as I'm at uni, won't be back on DCS till half term - has the explosive radius of both HEI rounds and of rockets been improved would you say? Anyone tested it?
  2. Getting a bit off topic here gents...
  3. Hi all I have this issue when assigning the friction slider to zoom on my warthog throttle. The zoom all works fine both in and out, and there is none of that jittery problem that I'm reading about too, but I can't seem to find any threads relating to my issue: The central notch in the slider is and should be default zoom....until you move it, and once you've finished zooming either in or out, resetting it to the central notch actually zooms in too much, in that the corners of the MFDs are almost being clipped off the screen. To get back to normal zoom, I have to retract the slider back a bit from the central notch. Not disastrous, but definitely a pain. Anyone know why it thinks default zoom is way more than it should be, and how do I fix it so that the central notch sets it back to normal zoom after zooming in or out using the slider? Cheers.
  4. Is it just me that loves to Wild Weasel and gets a thrill from seeing multiple SAM launches speed towards you? After reading "Viper Pilot" by Dan Hampton (amazing read, recommend it to anyone on here in a heartbeat) I've made a bunch of missions where Tbilisi is full of SA-3s, SA-6s and AAA just like Baghdad was in the book and just Weasel the s**t out of it, sometimes in a Hog. Top stuff as always Ralfi
  5. Yeah dumb bombs are fun, just a bit hit and miss when there's wind & what not and can make you look stupid if you drop them too low (because you're trying to visually spot the infantry) and end up damaging yourself. I'll be interested to see if the HEI physical and visual effect goes back to how it was in the early DCS A10C days when 1.2.7 comes out.
  6. I'm not running the 1.2.7 beta (just cba to have two completely different sets of files running, sorry). I'll switch to HEI though and see if it makes a difference. Shagrat & Jmasterflash, I sometimes use the CBU-87 on about 700-900 HOF, and it does the trick nicely, but I rarely carry them. Rockets would be nice, but as someone above mentioned the shrapnel is poorly modelled. When they fix it though, I'll probably start carrying some M151's in ripple as default. Reason I ask this whole thing anyway is that when you look at YouTube videos of Hog's strafing taliban or whatever, they open fire with the gun easily high enough to not spot individual moving people, yet the rounds still seem to do the trick and the ground around them gets pretty screwed up. Unless some strafes IRL are more for suppressive purposes & for shows of force rather than for deadly intentions who knows, just a train of thought.
  7. One of my least favourite enemies to kill with the Hog are infantry - partly because they're near impossible to see even with the TGP if you're a long way off, and partly because I struggle to find a suitable weapon. Usually I designate each part of my payload to threats that I know are in the mission, so for example I'll save my mavs for short/mid range SAMs or AAA which I'd have to engage from a long way off, or save CBU 97's/105's for a cluster of armour. As a result of this planning, I am always hesitant to use anything other than the gun on infantry from fear of wasting my better ordanance, but I always find the gun to be a bit disappointing also. It seems (though I might be wrong) that the explosive radius of the rounds are a bit badly modelled? I don't usually switch over the HEI, but even on CM where there are still explosive rounds hitting the floor it seems I almost have to directly hit each person individually to get the kill. Should I always be using HEI for engaging infantry? If not, anyone got a little tip for a better weapon to use against them without using the bigger stuff needed for other threats in the mission?
  8. BEFORE you go ahead with an X-52 purchase, watch this video by a DCS player called Ralfidude who reviewed some sticks. The X-52 will have you in tears apparently. Warthog is pricey, I found the same, so I just delayed my purchase so I could save up and I love my Warthog to pieces, so glad I bought it.
  9. I am sorry for your loss, you have my condolences. #PrayForBojangles
  10. Make use of JTAC, and your TGP can be slewed to directly to some targets.
  11. Hi all I have this problem when playing a game in DCS daylight - the scenery goes really bright and glares, meaning my visibility is poor. It also adjusts itself, for example looking toward the sun will make the picture go darker, and then when I change the view to a darker surrounding e.g. cockpit view it then adjusts itself back to normal lighting again - very weird. Please see attached screenshots. Any ideas what I have to fiddle with in my settings to optimise the picture brightness? My monitor is set correctly and the lighting changes only occur in game. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers
  12. Okay guys I'm just going to go ahead and say it - I had a dream about the F-15 AFM last night. Guess I'm even more excited about it than I thought!
  13. Same - I bought FC3 for the Eagle because I live 10 minutes away from RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England and I watch them all the time.... then hop on DCS and recreate what they do, sad I know :music_whistling:
  14. I'd advise against learning formation flying in the russian jets - the trim isn't usually set nicely and you'll always adjust. For me, the F-15 flies the most stable, both in it's control surface inputs and power range; you can keep up with anything else (though you shouldn't really be doing formation at more than 350-400 TAS anyway), and it's also stable when you want to slow down to a Hog's speed or even a P-51's speed I've managed with the flaps down. One method I learned in my early DCS stages was on single player - set an AI plane to fly straight and level for ages, and just practise different formation positions on him, as well as see how close you can get and maintain that distance. At the end of the day, it really is practise practise practise. Learning on the aerobatic server online can be brutal but it does make you learn quick. Even when you cock up and send 5 of you plummeting to the ground with wings missing, you still have a good laugh about it (unless you're playing with some dementors that take it all too seriously). Having a TM Warthog does help as people have said above but don't take that one too seriously - I was more than proficient at formation flying before I got my hog stick (I had a TM T.Flight HOTAS I believe). Practise practise practise buddy. :)
  15. I want to view that A10 video so bad but it says it's blocked in my country or something? I'm from England not Iran...
  16. Is your afterburner a mod? If so is it on the DCS site or lockon files?
  17. Refer to people's comments above for how to load smoke pods in DCSW/Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft. No one has explained A10C smoke loading though so if you're wondering about that instead then here's how.... Select them onto your loadout before you start up your engines & avionics (if you load them after, you'll have to reload your DSMS). Then when you're in the air, turn master arm on, switch the master mode to "air to air", and press the pickle button and the smoke canisters will start releasing their smoke. Press the pickle button again to cease smoke.
  18. Thought I'd revisit this guys after just reading this on the BBC site, think it's related? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24803511
  19. A10C takes a while to get proficient & combat ready with it, but when you do, it is SO rewarding. I'm personally not a heli fan but some find them fun also. But if you're like me (young & interested in modern Western jets) then the A10C is something I will definitely recommend. Don't let the steep learning curve put you off, it will take you possibly even a few months to get seriously good with it, but like I said, there is no better feeling than successfully completing an online mission in your A10C with a bunch of other A10Cs, just how it would be done in real life. I'm not sure what equipment you have now, but to FULLY get the most out of A10C given money is no issue, get yourself a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS stick - best investment I have ever made. Also get a nice pair of Saitek pedals (you don't need the combat ones unless you're a real enthusiast, not worth the extra money), get TrackIR 5, a decent-ish headset, and then Teamspeak so your comms are all good when you're online. The above comes at a rather hefty price, but hey Christmas is on it's way so better start writing your wish list to Santa....
  20. How do you zoom in F11 mode? * and / keys just moves the camera back or forward for me, as does the mouse wheel. Would be nice to have an airshow type perspective like you just showed.
  21. RainMaker, TrackIR will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
  22. After suffering some critical hardware issues with my new PC, I'm having to send it back for testing and repairs, where they'll wipe it clean also. One of the most tedious bits of setting up DCS world from scratch in my opinion is control mapping, particularly mapping my Flaming Cliffs 3 controls to my TM Warthog and making sure all the controllers aren't all sharing the same axis (which they do on default for me, weird). I will obviously be saving the DCS installation files to a portable HD, along with software drivers for my stuff and so on. Where in the DCS files are my control mapping settings stored? And will pasting them back into my new DCS folder up on my PC's return restore my old controller mapping? Thanks
  23. It's a quality piece of kit, and you won't regret buying it. You'll notice how much smoother and controlled your flight is with it too, especially noticeable on gun-runs. As for the trim switch, the TM warthog has it mapped to view by default because they assume most people won't have TrackIR. But like you said it takes next to no time to assign trim to it. I also struggled with my HOTAS commands when I got mine last month, I just redid the HOTAS fundamentals mission once or twice and then did a lot of practise on the instant action missions to hammer in the muscle memory - now the process from finding a target to rifling a maverick takes no time at all! Just practise practise practise your muscle memories for different HOTAS processes. It's a bit of a blow having to buy pedals with it due to there not being a twist function, but like you I just went for some simple Saitek Cessna pedals (didn't see the justification in £60 more for the combat ones) and using pedals just feels so much more authentic now. If the woman starts to complain, tell her she isn't allowed to play it! You made a good choice, assuming the throttle doesn't brick (like the early models did), that'll be a nice multi-year investment for you. :)
