I can assure you that there is an entire organization of fifty plus members, that can't wait for the arrival of the AH-1G. The 1st Cav Div is a Vietnam/Desert Storm based helicopter group that flies the UH-1 and we are waiting, with anticipation, for this airframe...like other have said...if you don't like it...don't buy it...we will take up your slack and support the developers...

Hi All...been awhile since I've been on but wanted to say that I'm looking forward to the AH-1G. The reason I've not been on is that I've been concentrating heavily on the UH-1 and all of the up-dates that have been put out. As a real world UH-1H Pilot I'm very impressed with the Flight model. I think that the AH-1 will be equally as impressive...I look forward to its release and will buy the Beta to insure the developers have the funding necessary to continue their development of this fine aircraft. I feel that the AH-1G complements the UH-1H as an incremental step toward future mission capabilities....we have to support the developers so that they can expand the inventory of great aircraft we fly.

Hey jay43...good to see you again. As you know, I've been spending a lot of time in the 1stCavDiv conducting training so it's good to get back out here and see what's new. I love this cockpit project. I've always wanted a good simulator cockpit so I'll keep watching this thread and see how it pans out

Hey Flim...I would love to have the entire set-up. What do you think the cost would be, as a whole and parts and pieces for those who might not be able to afford the whole thing?
-
roiegat...all of the above information is accurate and will help you in your approaches. I was going to suggest a slower approach speed. I notice in your video that your making your approach as if your landing a fixed wing aircraft. When in your approach configuration it should appear as a brisk walk in your peripheral vision. It will appear exaggerated to you but always remember slower is better. It will help you control your approach. I don't advise you to come to a hover and "feel" for the ground. You will find it easier if you continue your approach to the ground...I've said this in other post but...my instructor always said to me while making an approach...down and forward...down and forward...never come to a hover always move forward. A proper approach flies to the ground...always forward...hope that helps.

New Huey Specific Squadron Recruiting Members
flyer49 replied to sSkullZnBoneZz's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Hi all...I have joined this organization and have found it to just what the doctor ordered for us UH-1 lovers. It's a likeminded group of individuals who want to experience U.S. Army style flight in the UH-1H. I believe this organization will appeal to the experienced as well as the novice helicopter pilots. The unit will offer helicopter flight training by real world U.S. Army helicopter pilots with over two thousand hours of real world UH-1 flight time and also understand the flight characteristics of the DCS flight model, so that pilots new to the DCS Huey can more easily understand and anticipate some of the nuances that are built in to the DCS model(s). The hope is that by understanding this most basic of the advanced airframes, the UH-1H, you will have a more comprehensive understanding when the more complicated aircraft come on line. As new helicopters (i.e. AH-64 or maybe UH-60 hint, hint) are released by DCS, new training programs will be established. If you are an experienced or novice DCS UH-1 pilot or have real world experience, we would love to invite you to join our organization to experience a common bond with other members who appreciate the UH-1 and helicopter flight in general. -
Hey Tali...If I understand you right, you have to swipe the rheostats to turn them on. They're not clickable...I had to learn the hard way. I turn the overhead and panel lights on most every night (I like flying at night also). Place your mouse over the selected knob (rheostat) while holding down your left mouse. You should see the little green circular icon. Pull the mouse from above the knob to just below it and you'll see the knob turn, Most times you have to do it twice to get the full brightness of the control. I hope this helps

Todd, in a previous post, it was said that if you already own those aircraft, they should still be available to you...you don't have to buy them again. -

DCS 1.2.5 Released, Update 2 Released
flyer49 replied to SkateZilla's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks for all of the responses..but I'm not sure of the response. 1. down load into one file and then run exe. or 2. Run DCS and auto down-loader will do the rest. Can I just start DCS and let auto down-loader do it's thing or down load into one file and run exe??? Sorry I'm more a pilot then a computer person, so thanks in advance for your help -
DCS 1.2.5 Released, Update 2 Released

Hi all...got a stupid question...I went to the download section and found the current download. There are five files. The question is...do I have to download and install all of the file? -
Hi all...I too had problems with some of the missions. One had the flight leader not completing the assigned task (I think it was mission 11), this one took me four attempts to complete. Somewhere on the forums are the fixes for several of the missions. I think missions 4,6,7 and 11. The developers have recognized that there were problems, so if you look around you will find these fixes (patches). The name of the file is called "Camp fixes" and after I installed this, the missions worked as advertised. As for the "success" messages not giving credit after you complete a mission, I have had that problem too. If I complete it again it will give me the credit, so I'm not sure if that problems has been corrected.

AlphaOneSix, I salute you...be careful over there (do they need any "old" UH-60 drivers over there...I liked the money-grubbing part...lol)

If I can figure out how to configure my TrackIR for leaning I will probably use that method for sling load operations. I think that will give me the best "feel" for picking up external loads. I've watched helicopter pilots on TV who lean out of the cockpit and watch there loads while picking them up...I've always wanted to give that a try. To me this seems like a challenge due to the inner ear trying to compensate for your lean...possibly giving you vertigo.

Hey MadCat...I remember the WSPS on the aircraft we flew in the eighties. There was one on the roof and one between the chin bubbles on the bottom. They were designed to cut overhead electrical wires or guy wire of Radio towers, if you happened to fly into one while flying Nap of the Earth (NOE) and low level tactical. Those were helicopter killers...so that was the fix. It does make the UH-1H look formidable...like a couple of daggers (or fangs) jutting out of your war bird. The forward edge was meant to break away if it stuck something without destroying the aircraft. On one practice mission in Germany, I was flying as co-pilot and we were practicing confinde area approaches...unfortunately the PIC chose a field that had been clear-cut of it's trees. From altitude the field looked like a good landing area. We started our approach and as soon as we got to an altitude of around 20-30 ft. AGL we notice it had stumps about 2 foot high. Instead of calling off the approach, like he should have done, the PIC continued the approach. As we touched down, I heard a loud pop. I got out of the helicopter and saw the forward part of our WSPS was stuck in a stump (probably should have pulled it out as a souvenir but left it there) . We did a confined area take-off and when we returned to base and as we did our post flight walk around ...there it was...we had broken off the tip of our WSPS...needless to say maintenance was not amused (and neither was our commander).

I agree with AlphaOneSix. I believe it's more about the cadence (maybe it's more appropriately called a countdown) because they're only estimating the distance but once you get in the groove with your crew chief it's a snap

Excessive airframe rocking on engine runup?
flyer49 replied to Baggy MacDouche's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Hey Macdouche..he..he (love your name)...there are no such thing as perfectly tracked rotor system and when they are really out of tracking, they can destroy an aircraft (I think there is a really cool video somewhere on the forum). I think that DCS is trying to give you a feel for start up (it helps to immerse me personally in the start up procedure) . It is a bit exaggerated in the model but not too distracting. I believe that DCS will do some tweaking before the final is issued and It's possible this will be one of the things that gets fine tuned. -
Hi all...when we did sling load operations it was with a ground crew and crew chief directing us over the load. Takes a little practice but when you have a good crew chief, it makes things a little easier. Watch one of Coast Guard video's while they're picking up a rescue basket...that's what happens in real life...the crew chief will call out directions (right, left, forward or back) and feet to target. However.... The UH-1H is actually rated as a single pilot aircraft and if you see one today, say in lumber operations or even fire fighting, the pilot has a bubble built into the door window (like the above picture) so that he can lean over and look out without opening the window. These pilots can hover and pick up a load while leaning over and looking at the load (those guy's are great pilots). Haven't tried it yet but like marker wrote above "Right ctrl + c" will work in DCS. I have TrackIR 5 so I'll have to try it and see how well it works.

These are great TM's...I like the checklist version (short version). It looks like it's going to take about an hour to get through the check list. Reminds me of the UH-60 Check list.

Hey Jay...yea...I've got 12 of the missions completed and all are challenging. Like you, I feel sense of accomplishment when I get one under my belt. I'm actually looking forward to completing the campaign and starting some of the private missions that are being created by our peers.

The instrument lights are located on the overhead panel (right side knobs). To turn them on using your mouse...you have to hold down the left mouse and swipe across the knobs. The cockpit lights are the switch on the right hand overhead (clickable toggle switch).

Wow...that was awesome...makes me want to fly my DCS Huey. Thanks for the link.
