  1. I remember it working like this from the beginning. The purpose of the two keys is what I said. Press \ if you want to talk without holding the ICS/RADIO button on the cyclic (for the position of the switch see: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/magnificent_eight/index.php?PAGEN_2=3 ). As of now it only makes sense when talking to the ground crew. RALT + \ makes the pilot hold the ICS/RADIO switch as he talks, meaning he will communicate either through the intercom or the radio, depending on the position of a switch on the upper panel. I think you can also use the RALT + \ combination to talk to the ground crew - if that's the case, maybe that's why you remember only ever using one key combination.
  2. Are you using RALT + \ to bring up the comms menu or just \? The first combination is used for talking with the mike keyed (through the ICS/Radio depending on the switch you have set correctly), while \ makes the pilot talk without keying the mike - this can only be used to talk to ground crews.
  3. I called it! http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2346793&postcount=80 I know I said it's the Leathernecks' next module, but... close enough! :P
  4. This instrument is indeed a fuel pressure gauge. It's name is ЭМ-10 (or EM-10 in English). It measures fuel pressure "in the front part of the engine, on the same line as the fuel pressure indicator of the ЭМИ-ЗР" according to the Russian manual. The ЭМИ-ЗР (EMI-3R) is the combined fuel pressure/oil pressure/oil temp indicator on the left of the ЭМ-10. Why two pressure manometers in the same place? The ЭМ-10 shows you pressures up to 10kg/cm2 with a finer resolution of 0.4kg/cm2, while the ЭМИ-ЗР has a scale going up to 100kg/cm2 and a coarse resolution of 2kg/cm2. EDIT: Ahh, I see you found it already :)
  5. Oops, sorry, I should have read that more carefully. Either way, in normal conditions you just leave the valve in the open/forward position and let the KP-14 do its thing. The only reason to close it that I can think of is if there's something nasty in the cockpit (smoke, fumes...) that you would rather not breathe?
  6. Nope. Chuck's right. You're reading the label wrong. Look: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/products/mig15bis/40.png See the arrow next to the label? You're not supposed to read the label as "open" and "close" but rather "rotate this way to open", "rotate this way to close". Thus, forward position is open. Also here's a quote from the description: In normal conditions, you're supposed to see no flow on the ground and, as you climb past 2000m cockipt altitude, an increase in flow up to 8000m, at which point you'll start receiving pure oxygen. Take off with the valve in the forward position and that's exactly what'll happen. OTOH if you close the air valve, the KP-14 will feed you 100% pure oxygen at all altitudes because it can't pull any air from the cockpit.
  7. That's what I think happens. With the air valve open (forward), the oxygen will flow, but only at altitude. Closing it will force the KP-14 to feed you pure oxygen even on the ground. Seems logical. Also the label makes sense if you look at the arrow below. It's not supposed to mean "closed" but rather "rotate this way to close".
  8. I have a track of the E-2 deflecting my NR-23 AP shots. Is it really that improbable that a plane with plenty of hard bits inside (and an armored headrest in case of the MiG-15) will cause some ricochets?
  9. I have both planes. 1) Patch notes for the two aircraft are included in the DCS World patch notes. The most recent patch, released on the 10th of March, had a number of changes to both aircraft: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=140468 That and the DCS newsletters is most of the information we get about the development progress or goals. 2) The Sabre was released as beta on 07-25-2014, the MiG-15 on 02-25-2015. As you can see from the patch notes, both products are still being supported and developed - though some people are arguing it's happening too slowly or in a manner that's not transparent enough. That's a highly subjective thing and I'll just leave it for you to judge. 3) Main things that you might want to consider: Both aircraft are very much playable at the moment and relatively bug-free. There are no campaigns however, the MiG doesn't even have single missions at the moment. You'd have to do with the Mission Editor and/or community created content. There are few period appropriate units and we don't know if or when a Korean War map would be developed. There are Quick Start manuals available, but both of the full manuals are still in production. There are tutorial videos and user created docs available, and both aircraft are simple enough - I had no trouble learning the Sabre or the MiG, but your mileage may vary.
  10. This is only true if the engine calculations are the single most resource intensive thing in the entire game and all the other things, such as avionics, physical calculations unrelated to engines, AI, rendering etc. cost you virtually no resources in comparison. I'm sure you'll agree it's a far fetched assumption ;).
  11. It's not an acronym of any sort, so it's pronounced as one word. As Flagrum wrote, it sounds like "book". Also, there's no need to capitalize the whole word.
  12. The version we have in the game doesn't carry ATGMs.
  13. I see, thanks :).
  14. I think the chronometer might be working incorrectly now. There's no way to start the seconds timer. Pressing the right button starts, stops and resets the seconds hand of the main clock instead.
  15. The way I understand it, the KP-14 provides the pilot with a mix (automatically adjusted for altitude) of oxygen from the oxygen tank and air from the cabin. If you close the air valve, the KP-14 can only provide oxygen, as long as the oxygen valve is open and there's oxygen left in the tank. If both valves are closed or the oxygen valve is open, but you've used up all the oxygen from the tank, well, there's nothing left for the pilot to breathe, is there? ;)
  16. You need to set the right frequency (and callsign? not sure, but I always do that) using "Perform Command" and it'll work.
  17. No, you need to edit the comm.lua file in the MiG-15 directory.
  18. According to Wikipedia "the modern era began approximately in the 16th century" so that doesn't narrow it down much for the modern aircraft. OTOH, the pre-modern one has to be DCS: X-wing. Long time ago in a far away galaxy, eh? ;)
  19. Not a bug. See: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=139913
  20. Actually the position of inverters doesn't make any difference to the R-863, since it runs off DC power only.
  21. Wow, I've never seen the radio menu look like that - I don't have frequencies listed next to the airfield name, or the fact that they're neutral... is this some mod? If so, have you tried disabling it? I just tried contacting ATC and it worked fine. I turned batteries on, radio and intercom AZS on, ICS-Radio to Radio, modulation to AM and the right frequency and it worked.
  22. On this attempt I did an air start just to check if Sochi worked, but previously I mostly did cold starts and things worked for me fine. My start up routine is identical to yours (as you described it in your manual). I typically do a few things differently when I tune the radio, though your routine looks fine as well: - BST simplifies radio operation a bit by automatically tuning the transmitter and antenna when you tune the receiver as long as the two locking switches are turned off - so if you want to tune everything separately you should use the locks. I did it manually a few times but now I generally don't touch the right panel at all. - I typically leave the АРК - ПРИЕМ switch in the АРК position to hear both the ADF and receiver. - I don't use forced mode (I never even tried). - I use RALT + \ instead of pressing the mic button with my mouse. So all minor differences really. I don't know what you could be doing wrong in the cold start except for forgetting to throw the radio CB on the right CB panel - which you mention in the manual.
  23. I have an unmodded game and I had no problems with contacting ATC whatsoever. Just landed at Sochi - ATC worked fine.
  24. Nice :). I see some of my screenshots there. Glad I was able to make a small contribution ;).
  25. It worked when I tried yesterday.
