  1. It's in Open Beta, Harle. Friday is the ETA for the stable release.
  2. Oh, I have a feeling this will be a veeery common question here... Anyway, the quick way to tune the comm radio is to bring up the kneeboard, and on the default page you'll see the current frequencies of the receiver and transmitter. Tune with LCTRL + R and LSHIFT + R, or the knob on the left side panel. I'll try to put together a better tutorial tomorrow unless someone beats me to it. The RSI-6K is just wonderfully complex and unusual :).
  3. Yes and yes. Installing a DCS World update will also install associated updates for other modules.
  4. Thanks guys, can't wait to fly her :).
  5. 1. Real pilots really DO use binoculars. 2. How steep are your attacks? If you're in a shallow dive even a small angular over/undershoot will result in the missile landing relatively far away from your target. 3. I believe if you don't fly exactly at the target, your reticle will tend to "drift" during the dive? 4. You can still move the reticle after you've locked and even fired the missile. You probably know this, but just in case you missed it somehow. 5. You could try unguided heavy rockets (S-25, S-25) against tanks and other vehicles. In my experience they work very well. You might have to get a little bit closer to your target but that is somewhat offset by the fact that you can pull out as soon as the rocket is away. I'm a few missions into the Cold Warrior campaign and I've only used guided munitions against big targets such as bridges. 6. According to most people, spotting units in DCS is more difficult than it should be. Most people find it a challenge. 7. Identifying targets is generally a lot easier if you know where to look. Read the briefing carefully, along with all the provided maps and take a look into the mission planner. Learn the landmarks around your target location well, so you can use them to narrow down your search area to something manageable, like say, a square kilometer. 8. Generally prepare as much as you can before you reach the target area. You should have your ingress/egress planned and weapons ready before you even start looking for targets, so you don't waste valuable seconds.
  6. The nose landing gear - which is a major contributor of foreign objects to engines - is in front of the intakes on the 29 and behind it on the 21.
  7. The MiG-25 has nowhere near enough range to cover "enormous distances". The F-14 is a little better but still nothing like the F-15...
  8. Right of the back up hydraulics pressure indicator there's a small round orange (red?) button. Press it once you restored pressure in the main hydraulics system and want to switch over from the back up system.
  9. I can confirm this is happening to me as well, at least in case of English speaking countries. I haven't tried flying as the Russians.
  10. Go to your key assignments, find "MFD HUD Repeater On Off" and assign a key to it. Then start a mission and click it. As for the colors, I really don't know if it's a bug or not.
  11. 1) It's not a bug, it's a feature. You can bind a key combination that changes between tactical view and HUD repeater modes for the HDD. 2) I don't know what you mean, could you elaborate?
  12. The system works automatically for everything except for the left engine - which has to be turned on manually. AlphaOneSix explained why: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1950752&postcount=16

    15's day

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't wait for a "nice" date once they deemed it ready for release. Also it's Sunday ;).
  14. Thanks Bunyap, those are fun to watch :). On a side note, I think the Su-25 actually has the capability to navigate to "virtual" waypoints, as described here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2174842&postcount=40
  15. Which doesn't matter if the MiG manages to surprise the Raptor and get into a favorable position. The guns on the MiG are good enough to do the job and that's pretty much everything you can prove by discussing "what if airplane A sneaks up on airplane B". You can't compare it to Mustang vs. Dora, Sabre vs. MiG-15 or Eagle vs. Flanker. Streakeagle lists F-14 vs. MiG-21/23 along with them as "classic duel pairs" where it simply doesn't belong. There are plenty of other costs involved in operating a fighter aircraft than just the purchase price. So the F-14 crew has to fail on several levels for the MiG-21 to even stand a chance... I'm not saying it's physically impossible for the Fishbed to shoot down a Tomcat, but it's just nowhere in the ballpark of "fair". Read again the post to which I originally replied. Which pair stands out like a sore thumb?
  16. The radar will be certainly beyond comparison with the RP-22 and the Phoenix and Sparrow are better than no BVR missiles for the MiG. MiGs wanting to engage Tomcats will have to survive a barrage of AIM-54s and AIM-7s first, while the Tomcats will be perfectly safe until they reach knife fight range. That proves that the MiG-21 can shoot down unsuspecting targets on its own terms. It does not in any way prove that the match up is fair. You don't prove that two sides are equal by giving one of them a massive tactical advantage. If that were the case you could argue that a MiG-15 is a fair match up for an F-22. Which makes an F-14A vs. MiG-21bis scenario feasible, but it doesn't change the fact that the Tomcat would mop the floor with the MiG.
  17. It's actually a pretty horrible match up from the MiG pilot's perspective...
  18. If I remember correctly RSHIFT + L toggles the avionics on and off. It's a feature that's been in the Su-25 since ages ago and recently was included on other aircraft.
  19. It would also be more realistic if the aircraft systems operated themselves, cause, you know, if you were a trained A-10C pilot, you would be using that avionics set with ease anyway ;). Sorry mate, I don't buy that argument at all. I'm not saying translated cockpits are wrong, but they're certainly not "more realistic".
  20. Thanks Cobra :)
  21. If it was promised (I don't recall if it was) then it should be delivered. If not, well, you can use one of the mods I guess? Since most of the other realistic(ish) flight sims I'm familiar with - such as the Il-2 series or Rise of Flight, or even ground combat sims like Steel Beasts - don't translate their cockpits/crew stations, I wouldn't call it an industry standard.
  22. Do you put a FARP command point next to your FARP? I believe that's needed for the FARP radio to work. Can you contact airfield towers normally?
  23. That's your radar altimeter and IIRC the red flag is telling you you are not getting a good reading.
  24. Nah, we like it here just fine :D.
