I can't say I really care for the A-6, but this is simply not true. The A-6E served from the 70s well into the 90s. AFAIK the last A-6 went off the production line after the last F-15C! There's plenty of appropriate equipment on both sides. Air defenses, ground units, aircraft of all sorts... A-6 aircraft even operated from the USS Carl Vinson.

And not putting unnecessary stress on the airframe which is expected to server for 3 to 4 decades.
-
And the Polish Air Defense Forces had the 26th and 34th Fighter Aviation Regiments based on the coast and flying the MiG-21bis. The DDR probably had something as well? Anyway, considering all the activity in the area, "Cold War gone Hot" scenarios with MiG-21s and Viggens intercepting each other over the Baltic would be quite believable.

A South Baltic map would make a lot of sense for the MiG-21bis as well.

Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015

Great update, Cobra! Could you please elaborate on this feature? Thanks! ☺ -
Didn't the K-4 go into open beta less than a year ago?

I think I figured out how to fly this thing!
lmp replied to TickJackson's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
If you react quickly enough you can sometimes recover from a developing VRS just like you describe. If you're in an established VRS - and you have the altitude to pull this off - recover by applying forward cyclic and lowering the collective to unstall the rotor. Then, once you have some forward speed, pull the power back up. Naturally you'll lose quite a bit more altitude this way, so near the ground it's usually not a realistic option. One more thing to keep in mind is that the VVI has a bit of a lag. If your descent rate is changing rapidly, you might be dropping faster than your instruments are telling you. -

Near hover 5m/s might be too much, safe descent rate is more 2 - 3m/s. This corresponds to roughly 500 feet per minute in American units. I think that's what makes a lot of people believe the Hip is particularly prone to VRS - they try to keep the VVI needle above the 5 notch, like they would in the Huey, but that causes them to descent two times faster. Of course the faster you're going forward, the faster you can descent without VRSing... -
Yes, what you said is perfectly correct. I wasn't disputing your statement, just elaborating on it.

The two MiGs have a free castering nose wheel and differential brakes controlled by a single lever on the stick and the rudder pedals. There are no Western style toe brakes. In order to turn, say, left, you apply left rudder and press the lever on the stick. The lever controls how much pneumatic pressure is applied and the position of the rudder pedals - how the pressure is distributed between the left and right wheels. Sounds a little strange to a Westerner at first, but I find it easier to use than the toe brakes + free castering wheel system, though it may be because of the imperfection of my HOTAS rather than the concept itself.

I'm sure you wouldn't be eating Lodbaldur alive if he said the module was 10/10 perfect and ignored the missing missions, campaigns, documentation etc., instead of "mere" 8/10. The borrowed copy would be a non-issue then and it would be a perfectly valid, objective review .
-
Nothing. It doesn't make his points any more or less valid.
-
Wow, guys, calm down. Lordbaldur clearly said it was beta. People watching the video have a brain and can decide for themselves if lack of content in a WiP module is a big deal for them or not. No need to hate on a reviewer just because you don't share his priorities.
-
Most of my field landings were also gear up and oddly enough I have a 100% success rate. By "success" I mean "not dying", since with the gear up you can't avoid damaging the aircraft. I can't say the same about my regular landings, where I managed to kill myself a few times ;).
-
Well, it's more of a heads-up about the state of the beta or a criticism of the lack of content than a comprehensive review. Half of the video focuses just on that one issue, most of the rest on how it compares with the F-86F in a dogfight and there's barely any information about the aircraft itself. If you want it to be a "buyer beware" or "first impressions" video then great. But if you want it to be a review, try focusing on the whole picture a little more.

It sure looks like pitot icing. Even if pitot heat was on, it may have not been enough to prevent ice from accumulating and blocking the tube.
-
Also, if you know the key combination but you don't know what the binding is called in the options menu, you can just press the key combination in the appropriate aircraft's key bindings page and the game will find it for you :).
-
I think you have your units mixed up. "10k Angels" would be 10000000 or ten million feet, way beyond what any aircraft is capable of. 10k feet or angels 10 would be perfectly safe for most people. People settle at altitudes higher than that (link). 10k meters on the other hand would kill you quickly.
-
That's correct and the key word here is "IAS". As you go higher the same IAS will correspond to a higher TAS. At one point your stall speed (IAS) will get very close to your critical Mach number (TAS).

How to tune the ARC-9 to a frequency?
lmp replied to Rongor's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Just remembered another thing. ARK-9 only covers the 150 - 1300kHz frequency range. So even though you can dial in a lower frequency, you won't actually get a signal. But if you wanted to tune, say, 156kHz (which is the outer Senaki beacon, 129kHz being the inner one), you would follow the procedure described above. Either 150 or 160 on the digital display, and a relative +6 or -4 correction with the fine tuning knob. -

... or the other way around, 120 on the digital display and +9 on the little dial. Both ways should work. -
Can't seem to get YaDRO-1A to work...

I tried contacting ATC using this radio set and it didn't work for me either.
