  1. I thought this was done already, several times, in the last few years.
  2. Isn't the resolution still pretty crappy with DK2? That's the reason, one of the, we're all holding off. If it's not as good or better than our monitors, its like going backwards. I hope it does get better soon though...
  3. There's no real, reliable way to convert MGRS to LL. They aren't meant to be converted. Some maps use WGS84, some don't. Unless you're family with using military grid I don't really think you'll understand it, but the bottom line is there's not a real functional way to do it, or really a reason IMO. I'm talking about some computation with a map in hand, that isn't possible. Using the CDU, that will do it, but I don't think that's what OP was asking.
  4. This is going to get the BSS back to our roots!
  5. I'm not seeing the problem with continuing this thread given the changes that have occurred since it started.
  6. I'd rather see things that have actually seen a decent amount of combat as well as some of the FC3 aircraft made into full aircraft instead of simplified like the F15 F16 A6 Intruder A7 Corsair S3 Viking F4 Phantom F100 Skyraider A4 Skyhawk It would be really nice to see a naval operation side to DCS with carrier ops.
  7. Yes and it sounds awful the way it is today.
  8. I've rarely run into it in real life. Its just not that important.
  9. Who's we? Pretty much every place I know of mandates that you use all available for navigation, especially for approaches. There's always a backup dialed in if its available.
  10. I'm waiting on our A10 pilot to get back to us about the info I mentioned.
  11. Even if it was modeled, it doesn't just happen all the time and is rare. You'd have to have the right conditions, visible moisture for example.
  12. While I'm grateful to get any WWII aircraft in DCS, this is one of the things I can't stand. It seems the ones that get developed are the best of the series. I'd rather see the ones that were more common vs the most uber.
  13. We wouldn't be able to authenticate with them anyway since we wouldn't have the code books. They aren't issued anymore. It's been since the 90's since its ended.
  14. I had no problem when I updated to 10 months ago. I like it, although I still like the looks of 7 because I can navigate it easier, 10 runs much better.
  15. Hence the reason I said since radios have started using encryption and frequency hopping, encryption is mostly a thing of the past. Other than some short range intersquad radios, all radios use those security features. So thank you for mentioning that.
  16. I was the one that said authentication is mostly a thing of the past. What I can do is contact an active duty A10 pilot that just let one of our guys in an actual A10 sim a couple days ago. He's an instructor and set to retire next month so if anyone has the answer, he does.
  17. I figured you would want to be as realistic and current as possible. Good luck.
  18. I've never heard of doing that. You will just have to use an activation code on the new HD. If you run out one day, you can get more.
  19. What are you guys basing your "feels right" off of? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being able to see a group of 2 or 3 planes 10 miles away like it is normal, but it isn't. It's hard enough to spot a plane a few miles away when ATC is telling you a distance, direction and altitude, IRL I mean. I appreciate that they made an effort to make it easier to see aircraft but lets don't forget that it isn't really that easy to spot them and if it gets taken any further, its going to be more of a game than a sim.
  20. Sorry guys, we moved out side convo from the thread.
  21. I'm pretty sure it was nothing more than a name change, for whatever reason.
  22. I just use the arrow keys on the keyboard since I don't need them for anything.
  23. No, I went to Sniper School when I was in the scout platoon. I competed and deployed. I did run an in house SOTIC for the battalion I was in, well took part as an instructor. You know the SOTIC's are gone now and it's called SFSC.
  24. Here ya go...
  25. That's not exactly true. Just so you know where I'm coming from I'm retired, 22 years, from the army. I spent 16 years in the infantry, over half of that time in a scout platoon (reconnaissance). My last 6 years I spent in special operations. The book says you only have to check the headspace and timing if you change the barrel. In practice, that doesn't work. More times than not, if you don't check it before going on mission you will have several guns fail because the headspace and timing is out. Through use, time, hard terrain and flying, it gets out of sync. If you follow the book you will most certainly end up with 100 lb paperweights on mission when you need a HMG. You will never find a combat arms unit that only checks the headspace and timing when the barrel is changed. I'm now flying for my second airline.
