  1. This is exactly why I wished they'd stop these kind of aircraft. There are way too many other "useful" ones that are needed. While appreciated, the time and resources IMO could be better spent elsewhere.
  2. I don't have engine failures because we use them full open. I'm not sure why you guys thing the auto feature works. Yeah, you can keep it in auto and be VERY careful, it shouldn't be that way.
  3. Umm no, unless you want them to run a lot warmer than they should be running. You can't climb with them in auto nor can you fight with them in auto. The auto function doesn't work as it should. You MAY be able to cruise, but that's it.
  4. No offense intended, but I don't know why people there's so much involved with engine management. There are specific settings for different phases of flight. There really isn't much changing of manifold pressure and prop pitch. As far as the radiators go, if it's like the P51, just expect to keep them open, all the time, unfortunately. I wouldn't really think much about the climate, its not extreme in one way or another.
  5. We, our group manually opens the to 100% before we take off. The auto system doesn't work correctly and it's one of quite a few things that I hope they fix, even if its just in the more appropriate European P51 they are bringing us. On a side note, it baffles me that all this time and work is spent on rare WW2 aircraft instead of more common ones.
  6. It doesn't matter. You can turn them all the way down and they still have the same characteristics. They can bleed all their speed down to a stall then come out of it and climb well above you. It has nothing to do with the AI pilot settings.
  7. Electronic E6B's were approved years back. My company gave us Surface 3's and Jeppesen Flight Deck Pro. I guess Foreflight is ok, but I wouldn't trade flight deck for anything. On top of the automatic chart and plate updates we're able to see our aircraft on the map and taxiway diagram, which is nice.
  8. While it's nice that they complimented the sim...of course they are going to say it's nice. I think they'd have something different to say if they were into flight simming as we all are and flew it on a regular basis. I don't mean they'd say it's awful, but they'd see things that they aren't going to notice when they are grabbed from a show and sat down to try something they aren't really interested in.
  9. Nevermind, I thought you said it was cause knocking because of the spark plugs and I was thinking "WTF?". lol I had originally said something else. I will however, say that if you pull the prop back too far while maintaining high manifold pressure it can stress the engine and parts that control the pitch of the prop blade. I've seen this damage on an engine that was at TBO and the oil was leaking out of the prop hub because of mismanagement of throttle and rpms. That is the real concern for someone flying. Again, this isn't a concern in DCS unfortunately.
  10. That's true in a real aircraft but it doesn't matter in here. I've gone full power and dropped the RPM's to a low setting, something that would hurt a real engine and it's had no effect in DCS. I wish it was modeled, but it isn't and if it is, it's not noticeable.
  11. No no no don't use full rpm for dogfights unless you want to burn your engine out in the middle of it. 2800 rpm and 50" is more than enough. I rarely go over 50" and if I do, its only briefly. I've yet to ever use war emergency power. It's just not needed. The rest of the engine settings are on the placard inside the cockpit. I've never burned up an engine and never required more power than stated to fight and win.
  12. No need to be nasty to someone who has a good point. So what if there are enough people registered with the modules to make it fun for them. It leaves a lot of people out. Again, I have the modules and will be able to, but that doesn't change the fact that it leaves a lot of people out and that's all he was trying to say.
  13. Yeah, the people with the modules will come. I will be there since I have the F86 although I'd rather not even mess with a Korean era blueflag. There will be A LOT less people able to even join and fly and the lack of era applicable ground units just makes it not really fun. Also, how are both teams going to have a ground attack? It's not like the red team has anything really viable to use in the era except the Mig.
  14. I'd be surprised if this hasn't been brought up before but... What's with the constant hurricane strength winds? I know it's not every map but enough that it makes it annoying and sometimes impossible to fly helis. What I'm mainly talking about is the KA50 and hovering. It also is so strong that you have to hold a 20 degree correction into the wind to hold a heading. Secondly, I believe it's only one map, but the fog. There's really no point in having strikers since no one can see a ground target. Maybe in an A10C with the TGP, but that's really about it. Just some suggestions. I like most of the missions but those things kind of ruin it so I will only play 1 or 2 of the missions. I'd hate my life if I had to actually fly in turbulence as often as I see it on these missions. lol
  15. I'd have to agree. There just aren't enough Korea era aircraft and ground units to really do it and have fun, not to mention it would exclude way too many people. I'd be able to run it, but I don't think I'd want to for the reasons stated. I've had great fun so far, so much that pretty much any other server bores me to death. This is the new standard, unless you want to play Call of Duty/DCS in the 104th or the like.
  16. If I would've known the butthurt was going to flow I wouldn't have mentioned something I didn't think you realized. FFS some people around here...
  17. Soooo instead of coming in to complain, don't come in at all and ignore it? I mean, that's what an adult would do...
  18. Because killing a power plant isn't going to shut down radar that has back up power supply or isn't even on the grid in the first place.
  19. Why? It just adds to the dynamic and brings in a HUGE community, not to mention a butt load of revenue. If they were to bring on a group to handle the civilian/GA aircraft so that it wouldn't interfere with what is already going on, it could only be a good thing. I really don't see a downside to this.
  20. You don't have to set the HUD to SOI when you're making markpoints, unless you just want to get that close and then have to turn around and make another run. I just leave the TGP as SOI and mark targets with that, on the way in, well before I'm in range with my mavs. Other than that, everything is correct.
  21. The fact of the matter is that your aircraft isn't going to be able to continue on to hit any targets if it's shot down so its doing the only defensive maneuver it can given the attacker. You're using a Mig 15 and it's close enough for guns. There's really no passive defense for that vs a more modern fighter attacking from BVR. It's possible that you've set impossible conditions for the AI. This doesn't sound like a bug, but more something along the lines of you setting things up that can't be done given the conditions. I'm assuming you're reporting this as a bug and I really don't think that it is.
  22. You made a JGSME mod but can't do a manual start? lol I literally learned it in 15 min. It's pretty easy and much faster than the auto start.

    Active duty

I enlisted in the Army at 17 in 1989 and retired last year. I spent all my time in the infantry and then special operations. I also had a 4 year break in service. I finished school and flew for my first airline then. I'm now flying for my second airline. On average, even in the infantry, over half the soldiers had degrees. There are pro's and cons to being an officer and it really depends on what it is you want to do in the military. On the combat arms side being an officer can suck. You'll get your line experience as a young LT and maybe as a company commander. After that it's staff duty and boring as hell. You can't just give a blanket statement for all branches and jobs and say go in as an officer because in the end, it really does matter, what it is you're looking to do, in the military. As far as people using the GI Bill, people not using it to go to school is more of the exception. I've rarely seen people not use it.
  24. Thanks all. That's kind of BS, no pun intended, that you have to rebuy an aircraft after paying $50 in the beginning. He'll have $74 invested in Blackshark. Oh well, I'll let him know.
  25. I've looked and found nothing useful. I have BS2 but my brother is coming back to DCS after a decent break from flying. He bought Black Shark 1 way back when it was released. He is wanting to upgrade it so that he can use it with the rest of us in DCS World. He sees the upgrade option in modules, in game but it does nothing. Does he actually have to pay again so that he can use it in DCS World along with the A10 and all the other aircraft? Again, we've gone through numerous posts and searches on line and found nothing useful. Any help is appreciated.
