  1. I only just retired a few months ago after 22 years. They don't even issue those books anymore.
  2. Authentication went away and hasn't been used for normal communications in the 90's. Ever since radios started to use cipher/crypto/freq hop.
  3. If you guys have questions about this incident BSS_Vidar, he posts here, was in the S-3 on that mission. He can tell you everything you want to know about it.
  4. Something that I doubt most of you realize is that the .50 has to have the headspace and timing set and checked often by a crew member. There is a certain amount of play that still qualifies as a "go" on the go/no go gauges. That means that some guns may fire a bit faster and some a bit slower. I doubt that is modeled into the weapons here...
  5. I'm not sure why it was ever questioned?
  6. A lot of you are saying to use it if you feel like it... The only answer is, it depends. It depends if that particular aircraft procedures says you should use it. Some will say don't use below a certain altitude, some will say to use, such as the A10 and F86 because it takes time to spool up the engine and using the brakes keeps the engines spooled up. You need to look up the procedure for each specific aircraft and follow it. That's the only real answer to this.
  7. I don't have any Saitek and it happens. I don't think it's a Saitek thing as it happens to everyone.
  8. I kind of chuckled after reading the title of this thread and looking at the date. The reason I did is because, it is my understanding that the 109 needs a fix to its FM and DM. Things like a 1500 FPM climb over and above what it should be, it soaks up .50 cal like it's a tank, never runs out of coolant, etc. Having said that, is this true? This is the word going around my inner circle and other than observations, I'm not sure where it came from. I do believe someone I know read it here and if so, where? ETA: I found it so nevermind. So again, the thread title made me chuckle because apparently there are some fixes are due and some people think the way the 109 is now is normal. Also, I have the 109 and enjoy it, just want it corrected. Sorry for going slightly off topic.
  9. We know how to land and the way it balloons/bounces is wrong. We have tried two wheel landings at 120-130 and three wheel at 90-100 and it rarely lands like a real plane should. You don't have to take my word for it. I'm taking the word of one of our pilots that has over 18k real world flight hours and many thousands in a tail dragger. Its just not modeled right here and seems to be a problem in a lot of sims. Even with my low few thousand commercial hours I can tell it just isn't right. The fact of the matter is that you have to learn how to fly the sim and that in itself kind of sucks, but we have to do the same in the multi million dollar sims that we use for our yearly checks. It would just be nice if they could reduce the balloon effect.
  10. With only 30 to 35 inches it would take forever to get airborne. We hold brakes, stick back all the way and run up to 40 inches. We release and once airspeed starts to show on the gauge we let the stick go neutral and run the MP up to 55 inches. The airflow gives you a good amount of rudder authority and you'll get airborne a lot quicker. Leaving the MP at such a low setting for the entire takeoff seems unrealistic and I don't believe that's even in the manual.
  11. The slew rate is slow no matter what stick you're using. It's what is set as default in the aircraft software. You can change it in your TGP settings screen. 1-9 are your options for the TGP cursor speed.
  12. I didn't vote for any? There are enough Russian planes. We need US or other NATO country aircraft to counter what we already have.
  13. My group has been flying the P51 since it came out. Most of us are military and/or commercial pilots. Having said that, the only thing I can agree with you on is the bouncing on landing. The other stuff you mentioned I was concerned with too, at first. What I noticed is that, you probably too, I was taxing too fast, much faster than I would IRL. Slow your taxi down and try unlocking the tail wheel and then turning. What you will see is something that is realistic and controllable. The one thing that we all agree on is that the plane bounces WAY too much and too high on landing. Like I mentioned before, most of us fly for a living so we are not coming in hot or too steep. We're landing at correct speeds and rate of decent. To bounce a plane the way we see it in game you would have to come crashing down hard. Planes just don't bounce like that. Once they are slow enough to land they stick to the ground because they should've lost enough lift to fly. So, I would hope that one issue could be fixed.
  14. This isn't really important, but...every airline I've flown with, the check list part of engine start up was "engines started". There was never a step by step engine start up check list. It's a flow that's memorized. Just FYI.
  15. There is a slider on the warthog throttle that is unassigned. I use that for zoom. As far as a twisty stick, I say to each his own. I, however, can not use that for a rudder. Maybe it's because I fly IRL, I don't know, but a twisty stick is barely useable on the ground, forget coordinated flight. I know it gets expensive but if you're going to do flight sims, some things are a must and pedals is one of them. Then again, if it works for you...
  16. What exactly are you guys having a problem with? I don't notice a problem with the mini joystick on the throttle. Like I mentioned before, you can change the slew rate from inside the cockpit. Other than that, it works fine IMO.
  17. If that's what you think, I can't and wont' change your mind, but you're wrong. I used a Saitek for quite a long time and it served me well. I enjoyed it and I liked it, but after getting a top of the line HOTAS, such as the warthog, there is a huge difference and I think anyone that uses one will say the same. I'm not trying to make it a contest nor am I saying anyone is better than another because of the stick and throttle they use. Like I said, I used cheaper stuff for a long time. It is just a fact that some are made better than others and there's no question that if you're flying DCS A10, the Warthog can't be beat for that specific module.
  18. The stuff you guys are talking about sounds like something on your end. I haven't encountered it nor has anyone that I fly with, which is about 8 other people.
  19. I am in the US and will fly on servers hosted in Europe and/or Russia and don't really have the warping problem. I will host and have people from those places fly on mine and they seem to be ok as well. First of all, the warping thing is part of DCS in general and always has been. It's something that my group is hoping will get some attention. It doesn't happen on other sims. Second, more likely than not, the problem is coming from your internet and computer. Depending on where you are in the ME what I've noticed is that the internet in that part of the world that is not part of a business, isn't that great.
  20. Are you guys talking about the mini mouse on the throttle and the speed of it? If so, it's in the aircraft software and you can change the speed of it in the aircraft.
  21. Actually, no you can't find as many problems with the Warthog as you can with any Saitek. Take a look at the review and comparison of the X55 and Warthog I posted above. I've used both and many others and nothing comes close to the Warthog, especially for DCS A10. It's not being elitist saying that the Warthog is night and day compared to a Saitek, its just a fact. Anyone that says otherwise is either lying to themselves or have never used a Warthog. Having said that, if all you can afford is a Saitek, no problem. At least you have a HOTAS and something to work with, however, it is worth the extra time to save up for the Warthog.
  22. If you're looking for a good HOTAS you may as well save a little more and get the TM Warthog. Saitek is ok for a starter stick, but IMO they are mediocre and you probably won't ever see that unless you move up to the warthog. You said you are looking for a "truly HOTAS joystick", it isn't anything other than the TM Warthog. The only other substitute would be a CH. Saitek is just, well, cheap. Cheap in cost and how they are made. I used an X45 for a long time, but never again. There just is no substitute for a Thrustmaster or CH. If you don't believe me here's a great review and side by side comparison of the X52, X55 and the Warthog... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY0mTd0SOLg
  23. A good HOTAS is a must. You can probably "get by" with any decent HOTAS stick and throttle, but I never fully grasped the capability of the A10C until I go the Thrustmaster Warthog. That stick and throttle just can't be beat. If you can't swing that and end up with CH or a Saitek my suggestion would be to mirror the controls as close as you can to the Warthog so that when you are watching YouTube training videos, you'll be able to follow along easily. Other than that, if you want to fly this simulator you really need pedals and tracker. IMO it is next to impossible to fly without them.
  24. Why would you think most FC3 users are noobs? That makes NO sense. If anything, it would be the other way around since quite a few of us came from LockOn and Flaming Cliffs. As far as comparing aircraft, the M2000C isn't quite as good as an F15 and in the hands of equal pilots, it's going to lose before it has a chance to fight. Now, if you're talking about in game and not IRL, who knows. There's so many gamer things that go on in here, like always flying low. That one is annoying and not realistic...
  25. I haven't had a problem. I hit 7 for AG mode and to select the bombs I want. It seems to work fine for me.
