One Free Aircraft - The Poll
Hans-Joachim Marseille replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
This is between the devil and the deep blue sea, but ... Nay. The difference in rewards between $0 and $1 is too large. The $1 bills will not get us to the stretch goal. People that didn't know about this KickStarter or find out later about the game deserve the same rewards as those who put in just a dollar now. That one dollar should be moral support, not getting you through a closing gate for the wrong reasons. I'd rather fly along someone who finds out about the game later than a "$1 Bf.109 jockey". -

Exactly. Anyway, it's not worth fighting over and more changes will confuse this KickStarter even more (potentially damaging RRG's name), but I'm left with a sour taste and will probably leave my initial pledge at $100 instead of raising it for the final push. -
The Battle of the Stretch Goal
Hans-Joachim Marseille replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I did read it, and from the start there was no mention of the Mustang or Dora being included (rights owned by ED) nor 3 free RRG planes (Bf.109, Spitfire, P-47). Only later there was talk of the 3 RRG planes being included for free, a decision I think of as unfair and should be revised in the light of generating more KickStarter funds and fairness toward the "$40 and up pledgers" (the vast majority here) and future buyers of the game. -

I don't really care for the $1 pledge crowd; they're like free-loaders in my opinion. Among us we have a fellow that generated his $40 pledge by doing farm work. He didn't have funds to pledge before that. After Oct. 5, people who find out about the KickStarter will be left with one free plane, while the free-loaders will have it all for $1. You think that is fair? All planes for $40 is fair. And until yesterday I was under the impression that you would have to put in $40 to get all. My bad, but that's my idea of fairness. It's just not my "cup of tea". I associate "capture the flag" with chaotic multi-player attempts and teamkillers. -

While I understand that decision, based on (I think) being able to show your main funders a large number of pledgers, I still think it's incredibly unfair to those that don't know about this KickStarter yet and would have pledged. Putting in $1 before Oct. 5 will get you the whole thing for free, and after Oct. 5 not? Repeating myself; the fence-sitters and free-loaders will laughingly put in their dollar and get away with it. Please reconsider, and think about the guy that is currently on business travel or going through personal trouble. You're not talking to the "one dollar crowd" here (apart from that one troll maybe). Asking $40 for 3 planes is not too much, giving them away for $1 is. -

Could the Fighter Collection give away some free tickets to Flying Legends next year, or access to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford? This for the higher pledges. -

Seriously? I can see a stream of $1 bills coming now from fence-sitters and free-loaders, which will not get us anywhere near $150k in 5 days. It'll be laughing stock. And this is very unfair for people who found out about this KickStarter too late. Rather, update the pledges. $40 pledge will get you all 3 planes, on initial release only. Even the guy that had no money and went out of his way, emptying a hay barn to get some to pledge, put in $40 ... -

But then again, it would not be meant to be competitive. It would be a trainer with guns, for free roaming the map. An incentive to buy the game's fully-fledged warbirds. -

Oh my goodness ... capture the flag with flashing objects, no planes on initial release but trainers and the (by then) already established Mustang and Dora. Any more ways to kill this game? Don't get me wrong; I like the idea of non-pledgers being able to fly around the free map in a trainer, but no additional planes on initial release for pledgers? -

Can you add something in the game that can only be had by having pledged? I'm sure you're aware that the "other sim" does something special in multi-player for their Premium backers, among other backer awards ... -

My take: Only backers $40 and up will get all 3 initial release planes (Bf.109, Spitfire, P-47) for free, intermediate stretch goal (t.b.d.) at $125k to boot the KickStarter and make $150k possible. Not sure if killer videos will help at this point and honestly, I think MysticPuma and CharlyOwl already did an outstanding job voluntarily. -
Indeed, and the flyables (Bf.109, Spitfire, P-47) are only "free" for backers $40 and up. I don't know what made people think they could get the whole thing for free. As $40 backer, you would still have to purchase the P-51D and Fw.190D-9 (if you want to fly those). As stated before, you can try the free WWII map in a Su-25T.

There needs to be an intermediate stretch goal (eg. at $125k) and I think the Fw.190A-5 fits that bill perfectly. It's relatively easy to be made, with the D9 already being in the works (not because I want yet another German fighter, but it's an icon nevertheless). The fence-sitters probably look at this Kickstarter as a football game that has already been won, and are ready to go home. If we can show them an obtainable goal, renewed team-spirit and scoring they may finally come on board (bandwagon effect). And it may tempt current pledgers to raise their pledge to secure that goal.

FranceVFR and FSAddon Publishing have just released the FSX texture add-on "Normandy 1944", based on aerial photographs from 1946/47. Product website: http://www.francevfr.com/product_fshnor.htm (comes with 4 period aircraft, among others the legendary Fieseler Storch) How well this texture actually matches: http://avclassic.com/ww2glider/pinpointing-the-normandy-landing-spot/ "Scenery made from French Department 50 & 14 photo-realistic textures; original black & white dating from 1946/1947. Ground textures: 1 meter / pixel resolution (black & white) from aerial photography, IGN period reworked for an optimal visual rendition in Flight Simulator X. Mesh specific high definition: 4.75 meters (LOD13)." Hope this helps a bit in getting started. Granted, the add-on color is grey (overlay made of aerial photographs), but the overall layout is nevertheless very good. For ground scenery, I recommend the "After the Battle: Then and Now" book series. Alternatively, here's a link that provides 200+ comparative photographs (then and now); http://acidcow.com/pics/page,1,3,3772-normandy_1944_then_and_now_204_pics.html.
