  1. The latitude setting is there, because the gyro drift caused by Earth rotation can be calculated and cancelled by the gyro mechanism. The drift is 15 * sin(latitude) per hour. No idea if that's simulated in DCS or not. Of course it does take into account the random wandering due to gyro imperfection.
  2. https://ospreypublishing.com/us/b52-stratofortress-vs-sa2-guideline-sam-9781472823625/ That and other books on the subject often quote 266 as the number of missiles launched during Linebacker 2 as reported by the Vietnamese, while US Intelligence gives 800-1000 launches. No matter which number you believe, against 15 bombers lost during that campaign this gives effectiveness well below 10%. Overall North Vietnam is said to expand 5'800 missiles during the course of the war, around 6 missiles for each plane shot down according to North Vietnamese, or around 30 missiles for each plane if you only count the aircraft officially confirmed shot down by SAMs in US statistics. The majority of aircraft lost in Vietnam is attributed to AAA, not SAMs as you claim. Do you create a site using SA-2 template provided in DCS, or just drop some launchers in the editor? They work best when they have search and track radars operating.
  3. Even then, the Vietnamese used on average 3+ missiles for every kill they achieved, and that is according to Vietnamese stats. Against the B-52 formations by the end of the war, equipped with ECM and countermeasures, SA-2 effectiveness was measured in single %'s.
  4. The what about other SAM systems in DCS? Because right now against a single AI A-10, SA2 effectiveness is almost guaranteed one missile shot = one kill. While a Patriot SAM site wasted dozen missiles and still got destroyed by that single aircraft. samPatriot.trk samSA2.trk
  5. I could be that it now requires other keyboard key mapped. Haven't noticed any issues recently, but I've had it mapped to a different key combo for years.
  6. I think the correct answer is: the game requires that something is mapped to "recenter VR headset" command. If the mapping is empty, it will revert to "Num5". Want to free Numpad5 key for other functions? Map "recenter VR headset" to a different key combo.
  7. My comment was not meant to start a pissing contest about who can shot down what in DCS, rather a caution about trying to use real world tactics and tricks against DCS AI.
  8. Until you try to fight against AI MiG-21 in DCS, that bugger can sustain 6-7g turns all day long.
  9. Yep, just like 7900X and 5900X are 6+6 and have less cores per CCD than 7700X and 5800X. This would also allow AMD to package and sell partially defective chiplets, with 1-2 cores disabled, instead of throwing them in the bin.
  10. Veeeeery unlikely. It's probably 6+6 config, not 8+4.
  11. More like lack of attention from developers. There are also several modules that got it right, including WWII warbirds.

    MiG-19S

You haven't paid for MiG-19S either. Relax, that's just how WIP model can look like in early stages of development.
  13. I think he's asking about supporting HDR displays, and yes, these can display both more colors and brighter lights than regular, SDR monitors. Although I'm not sure what does it have to do with DCS Clouds and Weather System.
  14. No, because you've edited it after you've posted. If she's really so focused on being labelled as a woman in a game where you can't tell a man from a woman most of the time, then I don't think I can offer much help. It's possible to set the pilot photo in the logbook, and set the name of the pilot, maybe that could be useful.
  15. How can you tell if that thing on the screenshot is a male or a female? Seriously, with the helmet, mask and all the gear a pilot has to carry, you won't be able to tell. Even if ED puts a different model and calls it "female".
  16. Only in the last few years they accepted first women for training, who are graduating by now. (https://www.iwoaw.org/women-aviation-news/advocacy/after-a-nearly-80-year-hiatus-russian-women-can-be-fighter-pilots-and-aircraft-technicians-again/) So for the time period and airframes simulated in DCS, no female pilots in Soviet/Russian aircraft is pretty much as accurate as it could be. As for the F-16, the aircraft still doesn't have any pilot body in the cockpit, so a female model is probably very low on priority list.

    These screenshots are from 2021.
  18. Taking a break from time to time and not making the game run your life is always a good idea. But in this case you can really just add --force_steam_VR to your DCS shortcut and it will make the game run exactly like it did before the patch, using the same tools and settings.
  19. If you did not use reprojection prior to the patch, install "Open XR tools for Windows Mixed Reality", install "OpenXR Toolkit", and start playing with new tools and tweaks. Just do not turn on reprojection anywhere, because DCS will hang/crash. If you used reprojection prior to the patch, go back to stable for now, or run DCS.exe with --force_steam_vr parameter which makes it talk to VR software like it did before the patch, using SteamVR API.
  20. Yep, as usual the ultimate solution to multiple standards and APIs, was to create yet another API (OpenXR). At least, as you've said, this time it looks like there's a chance to make it right. Anyway, no point in <profanity>ting on WMR for SteamVR so much. It had its share of problems in the past, but these were solved and nowadays the performance is on par with other options. Now it's mostly a matter of preference of which tools and features you prefer to use https://forum.dcs.world/topic/177566-windows-mixed-reality-discussion-only/?do=findComment&comment=5127608
  21. Auto means the reprojection is off, at least for DCS. I really wish OpenXR devs cleared the mess with these options names once and for all. For the current beta, your only option to get the reprojection going is to use --force_steam_vr command line parameter which will cause the game to run like it used to, either through openComposite and OpenXr, or through SteamVr and Wmr for SteamVr app.
  22. The name of this parameter is slightly misleading, its not that it forces SteamVr, but it forces the game to use SteamVr interface (OpenVR) instead of the new OpenXR
  23. That's my open beta folder. I don't have stable installed.
  24. If you want to still use SteamVR, an easier option is to use the command line parameter to start DCS: DCS.exe --force_steam_VR This will bypass OpenXR completely and switch back to native SteamVR implementation in DCS. At least for the time being, don't know how long ED will maintain it.
  25. Hmm, the command line options works here. I even got the vrperfkit working. Just the fact that turning reprojection on completely breaks DCS now shows you how little attention and testing was involved.
