^I agree. East German SAM coverage in the north: Lübeck-Rostock is roughly 100km, same as Sukhumi-Adler. From http://geimint.blogspot.no/2008/08/ddr-air-defense-cold-war-case-study.html Btw http://geimint.blogspot.no/2007/09/iranian-sam-network.html Iranian SAM coverage over the Hormuz reaches south of Dubai. Of course this is at extreme firing range, not NEZ... but same goes for the Phoenix range quoted on this forum.

^Yes but how many people only want to be a RIO, and never fly the plane themselves? (I don't know!) Yes you might lose some sales, but you also might gain some because the back seat works like a demo/teaser. Unfortunately it can be hard to convince some westerners to try the DCS free planes right now, they don't want to fly a Soviet jet or unarmed prop trainer.

Not true, that's an internet legend. Iraqi sources say they encountered F-14s in combat. (Let's not get sidetracked by kill claim amounts.) They were sometimes used that way IRL by Iran.
-
Yep. IVC in Falcon 4 BMS works pretty well, simulates radio frequencies and talking/listening on two separate radios (UHF & VHF). Only caveat is people have to open router ports, but modern software shouldn't have that problem.
-
F-14A is used by Iran as well. Oh and I think he was referring to all kinds of airborne early warning systems, not just US-specific AWACS.
-
That's true! Could be NASA customized the cockpit of their test aircraft, like schurem said. I used to think the two-screen front cockpit was from an F-14A++ (a bombcat-ish upgrade in the early, mid-90's). More about the NASA plane from the picture I posted:

ED are already making Straits of Hormuz, luckily. It's almost like they're coordinating with LNS... could it be? :)

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
emg replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If ED have finished it, we'll also see it added to the Hawk, C-101, Huey and Mi-8, maybe TF-51D, which would be really nice. I agree, I'm just saying that making a DCS map and somehow locking out all other modules from flying in it - that would be a truly bizarre decision! -

I edited my post. If you look at the threads for Gazelle and Bo-105, they aren't even sure if they will be allowed to use the real names of those 70/80's era choppers, specifically the names of their military configurations. ED had a military contract for A-10C. I don't know what Leatherneck can work out in regards to LANTIRN pods and LGBs. I guess we'll see, I'm just saying there might be reasons for leaving out PGMs :). -

There may be legal issues with this late configuration. I think the LANTIRN pods are still in active use with some forces? We have a modern pod on the DCS A-10C, but ED had a special military contract for that. I don't know... but we know the Bo-105/Gazelle team isn't even sure they can use the real names for their 70/80's era chopper modules. -

from Greg Goebel's excellent site http://www.airvectors.net/avtomcat_2.html#m4 But, I don't know that we should expect this upgrade. Adding those pods = lots of complexity and development time.... and maybe legal issues that come with newer configurations. -

^One would be safe to assume having the multicrew option (once ED finishes it) and being able to use other planes in the theatre. Anything else would be bizarre. -

It's really hard to learn the local language when everyone speaks your first language really well. You will find many UK/Irish/NorthAm/Aus/etc expats living in Benelux or Scandinavia for 10+ years, not speaking the local language because the locals just speak English at them.

F-111 had a bomb bay and twice as much internal fuel. Side-by-side seating is appreciated by crews for long missions. Joe Baugher gives this data: F-111F Internal fuel capacity was 5043 US gallons F-14D Maximum internal fuel 2385 US gallons Bomb bay: -

My first post should have clarified the joint sorties happened in Phantoms, not Tomcats. Anyway, yep they were close allies against the Soviet Union. -

Iranian Phantom crews did joint sorties with US crews, and some of the Phantom pilots would've converted to the Tomcat. It'd be very odd if they only put green pilots in their new premier interceptor. But this is just a digression. http://www.acig.info/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=261&Itemid=1 -

Those Iranian Tomcat pilots were well trained by US instructors, had done joint sorties with US pilots and achieved a stellar victory ratio in the Iraq-Iran war. http://www.acig.info/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73&Itemid=47 -
