JTF - 111 - Recruiting F16, F18, and Helicopter pilots
=Mac= replied to Richstall's topic in Squadron Recruiting
I can fly the Hornet. I am focused on Air to Ground missions because I don't like Air to Air issues which is why I suck at it. I know some Brevity, some carrier ops, have all DCS aircraft and maps. I can fly the Huey and I have flown the Kiowa and Hook as single player. I am in Canada, Eastern Time, and if accepted, almost never miss practice or missions. I dislike Flight Lead status and am very happy as a dash two or other. I have TrackIr and the rest of my hardware should not have any issue with flights. I am ex-U.S. Navy (1971-1974) so I'm serious about flying. Oh... and I'm old, retired, ugly, reasonably healthy, and penniless. But, I'm happy. I do have recording and video editing software. If you would like to consider me, let me know where, when, codes, and requirements. -

Im looking to join a squadron who will accept green as grass newbies

I've had this same phone number since before you were born. I'll tell you the truth, You Can't Handle The Truth.... I mean the COLD! And... we speak French. Are you sure you want us to be your fifty first state? Plus, our units of measure are consistent with the rest of the world, our highway speed limits are 100. Can you drive YOUR car at 100? Oh, and just what are you going to do when you meet your first moose??? -

Did you find anyone? I fly the F/A-18 Hornet. I'm A2G mostly because for the past (almost decade???) that's what I trained on. I've been with quite a few squadrons over the years but today, I just fly Single Player. If you want help with DCS Hornet, I can help. (I'm in Toronto but I believe we're in the same time zone.) -
DCS World 2025 Screenshots and Video Thread

I've been flying DCS for a couple of years not on my (very expensive) gaming rig. Aside from all the DCS World quirks and insistant SAM sites trying to shooting me down, my gaming rig has been flawless. It was custom built with W-11 pro installed and "corrected" for bloatware. W-11, DCS, and SavedGames are all on my C drive while Davinci Resolve Studio is on my D drive, FS2020 is on my E drive, and a spare for my F drive. I also have a 12TB spinner for video cold storage. Drives C through F are 4TB nvme and Sys Ram is 96GB. Like I said, this monster has been flying along comfortably for several years now, updated whenever MS demanded it. Then... After turning off windows update for a couple weeks, I inadvertantly forgot and the damned W-11 updated itself the other day when I powered up. I got into DCS and was about to open a mission when I got my very first BSOD. It knocked me into BIOS so I simply let it continue. Back in W-11, I did some video work, flew a nice mission, crashing into a mountain. (Not my fault, it was in my way.) Anyway, I watched a YT video to check my latest upload and then shut it all down to catch some sleep. The next morning, I booted up but got stopped at BIOS again. When I continued on to W-11, it said it was finishing up its update (again!!!) and please do not turn off the machine. The update was a fresh install of Windows with everything the way I had left it except for one thing. It wasn't activated. WTF??? I tried to launch DCS but found SavedGames was a pile of cow turds. DCS was happy with a backup of my old SavedGames so I flew a short DCS mission and exited to Desktop. Sure enough, W-11 was still not activated. I checked my system's idea of just exactly what my activation key code was. My software told me that there was no key. I went to my House Server, got the key code for the gaming rig and entered that. Nope. Not a valid key. WTF part two???? I went to System Restore but found that there were no System checkpoints other than the one made during that morning's update. Okay. Time to get the recovery USB stick... Uh.... Videos of my last boating adventures?... Mac is so stupid. I've got 5 other 64GB USB sticks; why TF did I put those videos on THAT stick? So, here I sit at my House Server, complaining to you all about just how F'd up MS is and just how stupid I am. I had heard lots of rumours about the latest W-11 updates being happy to screw up many people's machines. But... well, like I said, "I'm stupid." Have a great day, everyone. I'm going to go shoot at some SA-6s in Afghanistan and stare at that damned "Windows is not activated" sign at the lower right. (What happens if I just leave it there? Will it eventually stop working all together or will it just leave that crap there? I mean, to me, if it just stays there permanently, it would be a badge of honour whenever I make a DCS video!) (Second thought, if I DO get it reactivated somehow, I just might put that sign there on all my DCS videos anyway! The third finger, so to speak, at MS.)

I have Winwing's three color MFDs. The left and right in the Hornet are green. The AMPCD is grey. As for zooming in, yes, in the 2D DCS screen, I have a rotator switch that lets me zoom in and out as I want. But, not realistic. Often, I'll cheat and use the 2D screen and zoom in on the AMPCD. But, as with the real life Legacy Hornet, the AMPCD is just at my knees and I can't zoom my real eyes.

I think there is another (perhaps minor) problem with the Hornet's flight model. Carrying four pods of rockets, the aircraft can't pass 300 kts. This is fine and understandable considering the huge amount of drag those pods create. However, if I get busy and distracted (often!) and I allow the airspeed to drop down to 150 kts or even lower depending on how stupid I am at the time, the problem arises here then (after realizing my impending death), I select full afterburner. I would expect a more brisk rise in the airspeed yet the poor Hornet just sits in the sky counting the clouds. Eventually the airspeed rises but, to me... a professionally untrained chair warmer... well, realistically, should those four pods cause that much drag at low airspeeds?

Syria. I took off from Gurion and saw a bit of it in Tel Aviv, flew up Highway 4 to Haifa. I saw lots of speeding there. at 10:37, look lower right on the highway, you can see one car at Mach 6 down the highway. It's really tiny and fast. But it's traffic doing that.
-
Every now and then, when I'm in external view (after I crashed) , I could see a vehicle or two going down the streets at Mach 2 or so while the rest of the traffic was normal (for DCS). This is not Combined Arms but, rather, just the local traffic.

U toob Please note that my settings were for rather shallow and see-through fog. But, OMG, it's beautiful! Thanks, ED!

I've been shot down many times there. But... where are all the burned out ground targets, T-72s, and BMPs?
-
Okay. Thanks. So the override switch isn't going to help with getting a rapid aileron roll in the Hornet. Is the flight dynamics, then, not realistic compared to the Blue Angels roll rate?
-
Perhaps I misunderstand what the override does. But I thought it would allow maximum flight performance. I timed the roll rate with it off and on. It was slower with it on. What am I missing? (Clean wings, 400 kts, about 6,000 AGL, full internal fuel, I was trying to emulate the Blue Angels' rapid aileron roll.)

Not a complaint. Just wondering if the windshield wipers are operational yet. The knob rotates but the wipers don't operate.

NineLine, In that video that Hooker made, he was clear and repetitive about what he was showing/referring to was clear for the public. He gave several warnings about what if someone came across some restricted info. I don't think you needed to warn him: Hooker warned everyone. I know that I'll be very careful because Canada has the F's. From my perspective, whatever Hooker discusses is extremely valuable to me. He actually flew those (D's and F's). The other software he mentioned already has a release of the Hook while DCS is a bit late to the party. I have two other sims besides DCS (FS and X) but don't fly them much because DCS is better (for numerous reasons.) But I always say, "Knowledge is power." HMSSURP, Please keep on with your videos and discussions. Ever since I saw the Flying Banana, I wanted to fly a twin rotor "Whirly Bird". (That dates me, eh? ) I believe DCS will be "The" version to fly, violated my own rules about "pre-purchase", and got my money in. I want the Hook so badly. The manuals you referred to will give me months of study... which is what I've always wanted in DCS. I've just poked my nose into and bounced around in DCS's Kiowa and wonder how these two will affect my six-year DCS career in the mighty Hornet. Thank you, sir, for your videos and discussions.

11th July 2024 is another month away! No. Wait... My calendar has a month delay in it. Never mind.

I used Open Beta exclusively. But, I KNEW it was a Beta. I knew it would have bugs. I reported a couple frustrating ones in the past. But I flew public missions with the understanding that things would (often) be FUBAR. Occasionally, things would get hilarious like aircraft bouncing hundreds of meters in the air, sometimes to disappear completely. Sonic booms would bring chuckles when someone rubber-banded. As frustrating as "wait" is, I value a good, solid release more. Get it right, ED; I'll wait. There's nothing out there like the miracles that you have given us.
