no mans sky was an early access grade POS that was released as a fully released fully priced game, then over the years they were adding functionalities and fixing bugs for that game. so the point is it's all just a formality wags said that ED couldn't release an early access version of hornet through the steam as a DLC for steam DCSW we know that steam cannot have DLC in early access state displayed on the steam store. I said why bother? just release the early access hornet as a normal DLC, with explanation detailing the actual state and the plan for future updates problem solved there's virtually no risk with that move, you won't get review bomb because not many would even get to know such DLC exist on the steam anyway given how little care toward hardcore sim genre games today. I don't understand why it's so hard to get this logic.
-
and you need to learn logic about software state. short easy example : no mans sky.
-
considering the nichest of niche status of the product, why should you even bother with that meaningless formality? just release it on the same day as the standalone version, early access state be damned...

What A-10c knowledge is applicable to be operating the F-18c?
nap0leonic replied to sc_neo's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
just read jane's f-18 and vrs superbug manuals and you are like 80% covered :D -
Sparrows?

super serious question here why can't we get ace combat level of graphics in DCS? is it a matter of tech, or resources? if it a matter of tech, what exactly the reason? is the biggest problem about the map/level size?
-
Lmao this guy is so out of touch with gaming market, already there are people on neogaf forum who said that ace combat is an overly complicated game series that they just couldn't get into.... To the 99.999% gaming market dcs is a terrible software that have zero entertainment value.
-
why? speaking of which I hope the F-18 will be available on steam at the same time it come on stand alone no matter what state it's in.
-
any new news or update for the hornet module? I'm surprised that all this time there is no f-18 thread to discuss... speaking of which, where was the pics on the last page come from?
-
I'm confused here, so if I want to try dcs world 2.0 open alpha I have to buy the nevada map now? even if the site description stated that it's free???

2016 Hardware Benchmark - DCS World 1.5.x
nap0leonic replied to tiborrr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
more and more results proven that broadwell with l4 cache are the king of performance clock/clock goddamnit intel, you should release broadwell-e with l4 cache, those things will be monsters for enthusiasts that play this kind of game and other cpu heavy games like elite, star citizen, even cities skylines... unfortunately it remain a dream  also poor AMD, their GPUs are slaughtered in this game, this cement the fact that if you are playing many non mainstream AAA games, stay away from AMD because their GPUs are likely to be poorly unoptimized, that and the inherent disease they have under DX11 and lower : CPU overhead problem. -
Great game but very hard for beginners...

basically they need basic information about aerial combat to be included into the game manual, I'm talking about description about the basic principle of flights, then simplified explanation about how to fly, then explanation about flight avionics and then take off, navigation and landing, then move to ACM and stuffs etc and so on... you know back then I became a pc gamer because of an arcade dogfight game named evasive action, but since I was below 10 years old, not a native english speaker and from a 3rd world country, safe to say I had no idea how to fly properly, I simply max the throttle and shot :D then I moved ot Jane's games from usnf atf and others, those games have manuals like I described above, with surprisingly quite easy to be understood for a kid, I became addicted to those combat flight sim games... long story short, somehow I skipped past the falcon 4 and the more hardcore sims era for some reasons, it wasn't until lomac that I returned to the genre and it took me by surprise, because it was much harder than the sims I played before... but it couldn't helped that lomac/ed games have terrible manuals... so I was overwhelmed and confused and gave up the game because at that time internet is still in infancy in where I live... it wasn't until 2010s that I came back to the hardcore sims again, and this time I decided to try something I didn't played before, that was Jane's f-18... surprise again, jane's games have great manuals, so somehow it was easier to me to understand the game, soon I was able to try vrs f-18 and falcon bms... I have to say jane's manuals were great helper. tldr comprehensible manuals and tutorials are a must have for this kind of game to attract people in, sure not many people are enthusiastic with the learning curve but manuals and tutorials can help a lot. also I want to add that if possible, manual should also explain the technical reason behind procedures, to help people understand why they have to do that, and also become immersed in the procedure and better remember why must they do that procedure... just patronizing people with do A -> B -> C isn't really a good manual, sure it can work but it's also easier to forget because of the lack of understanding. -
2015 DCS Summer Sale - Steam Summer Sale 6/11/15
nap0leonic replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Oh yes there is much benefit for me, steam version in my region is already like 40% off compared to ed store or us steam store, and that is without official steam sale all thanks to regional pricing So, will dcs titles included in steam summer sales? -
2015 DCS Summer Sale - Steam Summer Sale 6/11/15
nap0leonic replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Anyone know if dcs will also have sale on steam summer sale? -
And this, sorry for triple posts, from tapatalk here no multiquote

Yet another good point there
-
This, I also find it alarming that people here just don't notice what I repeatedly stated before, no other games use this
-
so tell me why do I need to deactivate activate the game every time my hardware changes? what is the benefit for me to have to do that when 99.99% games out there don't even do that anymore? as I said it, I was forced to change my hardware and my other steam games automatically accept it no questions asked. and what exactly the benefit for you the developer and publisher? again 99.99% games out there don't even has this archaic DRM system anymore. alright let say this new starforce is no longer like the one in the past, still it's very reasonable to assume that that name scares potential customers away and I can testify that I've seen people on forums saying they want no part of DCS simply because it says starforce, again all the hassle with little to no benefit for both us customers and developers/publisher it's 2015 with all the resurgence on 'indie' developer producing niche games (especially on pc) offering games with little/simple to no DRM system, why persist on something archaic, burdening the customers with little to no benefit for everyone that matters??? what I am seeing is, this DRM is NOT PROTECTING DCS sales, only hurting them by scaring potential customers away and in the end, a totally unecessary hassle/burden for the legit customers with zero benefit for the all involved. and to be honest, after seeing this thread, I think those defending it are out of touch with current reality in pc gaming / this market, there is no justification I can see with such system, not in the age where people are happily literally throwing away $$$$$ for early access games, crowdfunded games or even deliberately held back DLCs in AAA games.
-
if it simple cd key activation then why it called starforce? as you implied, the name starforce itself has bad history so it does pose legitimate concern for me. if it simple cd key activation then why is there activation limit (especially the one likely forced upon hardware change detected)? for comparison I've just built a new right a month ago and all my steam games automatically work after simple steam client reinstallation, no hardware change reactivation threatening me whatsoever, shortly after that my processor died and requires me to 'bug hunting' which lead me to buy a new SSD (because the old SSD was one of the suspected of failing; and I WAS FORCED TO REINSTALL WINDOWS in which bypassing the sad neccessity of deactivating DCS if I already had it installed before), so again no reactivation whatsoever threatening me from accessing other games on steam... am I right that such accidents may require me to reactivate DCS modules if I had it? sooner or later I may be prevented to play DCS modules I paid just because my GPU failed or something; for me such a thing quite unacceptable on this day and age, certainly not for such niche product.. I know I can get new reactivation keys but geez, that is almost similar to always on drm that prevent you to play because your ISP having trouble with the network; and again as comparison my other games on steam just don't have such threat ready to shove knife on my neck or such. I hope you can see my point.
-
I said specifically the trend on the niche market, not the trend on high profile AAA market I don't know about you, but many niche games I bought on early access or backed at crowdfunding are not using excess DRM, some of them even promised to be available without any DRM
-
on the steam store it also say DCSW use Starforce, is it the same with the stand alone version? nevertheless my stance is still the same, I'd much prefer the game to not use such outdated copy protection system that has a rather nasty history and bad reputation in the past... this is of course my assumption, but I really think the mainstream gamers / non simmers / non aviation lovers of today ARE NOT EVEN finding it worth to pirate DCS stuffs, I'm not even aware of any newer A-10C pirated version being available out there... for the 99% of the gaming world, this community DO NOT EXIST anymore, it's unlikely that someone out there stumbled upon DCS series that does not want to pay for it at this day and age... and so on... so putting excess DRM on this product only hurting the core fanbase more than protecting your sales potential... if the developer and publisher can't see this reasoning then it's very unfortunate.
-
Dear Eagle Dynamics it's now the year 2015, the games you are producing and publishing now are niche in the niche little corner of the market, so why instead of being nice to the small (potential) customers, you continue to shove outdated DRM with troubled history to your fanbase? this way of doing business is very outdated and of contrary with the recent trend on the niche market. I've been long wanting to get into DCS world, but everytime I saw the DRM displayed in the steam store page it just left sour taste in my mouth and mind so I keep back away from it, also the fact that even the non steam version also said to have similar DRM. I'm rather surprised that this matter hasn't been in the spotlight here, so if I am wrong then feel free to correct me.

DCS: Roadmap (unofficial - NO DISCUSSION HERE)
nap0leonic replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS 2.9
hi, just want to ask, what happened to coretex design forum and project? -
how about modern light attack aircraft like Super Tucano? are those little babies also classified? @WRAITH I share your pain, in fact probably many of us do; the unfortunate truth is modern air combat sim -and civilian flight sim to a lesser extent- took a suicide with Falcon 4 and Micropose, because both (and the same case can be argued with PMDG) ultimately made flight sims became isolated in the darkest corner of gaming universe... because such games are ultimately ultra niche and most people just cannot afford to embrace. heck look at star citizen, which transcendent in it's own genre, considerably the closest cousin to modern combat flight sim, still ultimately very far from being hardcore sim and when compared side by side with 16 years old Falcon 4 can somewhat look very very arcadey... and the truth is, any attempt to persuade star citizen to become more like DCS (hardcore sim) is meet with very heavy resistance... can you imagine if chris roberts made strike commander citizen instead of star citizen? for me personally it would have been a much much bigger dream come true, but alas, he himself knew that the potential audience for such a game would have been MUCH MUCH SMALLER, and I have little doubt that such a kickstarter project may ended up receiving only at best 1/5th the fund that star citizen got to this day (50+ millions)... this is just the bitter truth we combat flight sim fans have to swallow. so hardcore modern combat flight sim community is totally alien to the rest of gaming community and so game developers will continue to overlook it. blame micropose and falcon 4 for it; it was their fault :D
-
we must make TM and CH aware that the pc flight stick market is and will have a rather massive resurgence with space sims popping up everywhere... and today CIG is doing a star citizen backer poll about star citizen hotas, sadly saitek won the poll by huge margin I assume due to their cheapish hotas than competitors
