Thank you again AC5. The tailhook knob is beautifully visible in the cockpit, both day and night! Thank you so much!!

AC5, I am a total dweeb when it comes to graphics and knowing that, I can't complain about other folks' work such as yours. I am very happy to deal with having to squint at just the tailhook lever rather than every placard and switch label in the cockpit! Thanks again for all of your work.

Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
AG-51_Razor replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm not having a problem with the brakes. I use rudder pedals, each with a brake axis, and I can get the Hog to spin around the point of one of the main landing gears with enough power. That is not the issue, IMHO. If you look at the tail wheel while making one of these sharp turns (or even something much less aggressive in terms of brake or power usage), you will see that the tail wheel is not swiveling more than about 10-20 degrees. Once the tail wheel is unlocked, it should swivel around 360 degrees quite easily. As a matter of fact, you are supposed to unlock the tail wheel prior to landing aboard the carrier to prevent damaging the tail wheel and /or it's locking mechanism due to the possible violent side loads that can be put on it at touch down. This doesn't seem like a terribly difficult thing to fix but I am just a layman, not a professional coder. I am just curious to know what M3 thinks about it. -
I do and that problem was not evident in my installation.

Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
AG-51_Razor replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I am bumping this post of mine just to see if -Rudel- will respond to say whether or not this is a known bug or that M3 believes that the tail wheel is modeled correctly. -
AC5, thank you for the beautiful new(ish) cockpit! You have done a wonderful job on it. I have only one suggestion, should you ever decide to revisit this project, and that would be to repaint the Tailhook lever knob either silver(aluminum) or white or some color that would make it stand out from the arc it is in front of. The position of the lever is the only indication you have in the cockpit of what position the tailhook is in. It's not a huge deal but something you might think of next time around, in case there is a next time. Other than that, it's beautifully done and very user friendly! Thanks again

Unfortunately, carrier takeoffs and landings, such as when carrier qualifications were taking place, were made with the deck completely clear of other a/c. Until ED or M3 figures out how to model the operation of the barriers (3 of them I believe), it will be difficult to carry out any flight operations with anything obstructing the flight deck.

The SC handle full forward = Neutral Middle position = Low Blower Aft position = High Blower.

In a much earlier combat flight sim that will go unnamed, they originally had their carrier planes spawn on the deck far enough apart so that after they got started, they could spread their wings and take off or taxi from where they were. Eventually, they figured out how to have the planes spawn with their wings folded (I assume a smaller collision box with the wings folded) and were able to get 4 abreast on an Essex class boat. IRL I believe that they could "easily" get 6 abreast, depending on the type of plane.

I could not agree more with julpeuz! I've been flying IRL since 1973 and have accumulated over 11,000 hours, mostly in helicopters and have never witnessed that kind of defect in those type instruments. As opposed to Havebug, I find it very annoying, especially given that there doesn't seem to be any good reasoning behind it.

Motoadve, for a guy with your background and experience, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the ground handling. IMO, it is lacking a fully swiveling tailwheel. Without use of excessive power, it is impossible to get the Hog to turn around one of its main gear. If you watch the tail in the F2 view, you'll see that the tailwheel doesn't swivel more than about 10-20 degrees. Not a deal breaker by any means but very annoying nonetheless, especially when trying to maneuver in tight quarters on the flight deck. I think that all the rest of your comments are spot on though. I am a very happy M3 customer!

Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
AG-51_Razor replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have no doubt that M3 will be all over this at some point. Hopefully it will be sooner than later. -
I have tried the LALT+F9 to get the LSO view with no luck. Is there one that I have missed and if not, what are the chances M3 could provide one? I believe that this would make for some awesome videos as well as provide some training value.

Cannot fire HVAR & Tiny Tim rockets in Training Missions

Sorry Hoss but I get the Tiny Tims as well as the Bat Bomb. Don't know what the problem could be. -
Cannot catch a wire - think I found the reason
AG-51_Razor replied to Don Rudi's topic in Bugs and Problems
This particular anomaly being just too weird to ignore, I had to test it myself and I found Casmo's analysis spot on. 3 for 3 traps going 050 and 0 for 3 going 230 with the Essex. I switched to the Forrestal and got 3 for 3 going 050 and 2 for 3 going 230 - the first attempt was due to my forgetting to lower the hook <DOH>!! I am sure that M3 will be able to figure this one out quite easily. The trick is to get them working on it. It is probably lower on their list of priorities at this point. -

Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
AG-51_Razor replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have just tried it on both the Normandy map as well as the NTTR map with the same results. I did not experience any difference between the Marianas map and the NTTR map or Normandy map on dirt surfaces or hard stands. For those of you that say you're not having issues, could you go to your F2 view and look at the tail wheel during a sharp turn? In my case, I don't think that I have seen the tail wheel swivel more than about 20-30 degrees. I really do think that this is a bug and would very much like for M3 to weigh in on this in the event that I am wrong. -
Have you messed around with the supplies for the field you're on? Restricted any types of weapons? Have you messed with the clock down on the bottom of the screen that might change wat is available due to the time period?

Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
AG-51_Razor replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
It looks to me like all of you guys are experiencing pretty much the same thing I am seeing. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Marianas map? I will try a different map and report back here. Thanks for all you replies and that you Hoss for the birthday wishes. We gotta get in the friendly skies together soon brother! -
Are you sure that it is an ED issue and not the module producer? In either case, it seems to me that it's worth is far more valuable than the slight effort it takes to make a post about it. Sort of like a Return On Investment thing. Although I suffer mightily while hunting and pecking at this blasted keyboard, the possible reward of seeing a more realistic star up of a big radial engin warbird would far exceed my meager labor!

I'm not sure that I am doing things correctly, but it seems to me that, with the tail wheel locking handle pulled up and turned 90 degrees, the aircraft should turn freely in either direction with the application of one of the wheel brakes and a small application of power if necessary. The P-47 comes to mind, where I sometimes feel as if I'm riding around on an air hockey puck instead of in an airplane that might weigh around 14,000 pounds. The Corsair, on the other hand, seems as though the tail wheel is not unlocked at all and is very unwilling to turn without a fair bit of forward motion. Not having any RL experience in either one, I can't say which is more correct but I have to think that the Corsair's ground handling qualities are more than a bit under done. Otherwise I have to sat that M3 has done a beautiful job on this iconic plane and I couldn't be happier with my purchase! BRAVO ZULU M3!!

ED has done a beautiful job of trying to simulate the interaction of the aircraft with its immediate surroundings. We now see a nice cloud of dust coming up from the rotor wash of a helicopter, we see the grass and various foliage behind a plane reacting to the thrust generated by its engine and we see vehicles with dust trails behind them whenever they are traveling off road - even when driving through the snow! (I don't know, maybe they fixed that by now ) What I am now wishing for is a dust cloud resulting from a plane landing on a dirt runway. In video after video, we see P-47s, P-51s, Corsairs, FWs and 109s landing on a dusty, dirt runway and the wake turbulence is illuminated by the loose dirt on the ground. It would be a wonderful addition to the DCS Core experience!

Roger that Hoss! I believe that ED is working on an AI Turkey along with the SBD and I also read that they were doing a PBY!!
