New SSD and DCS (how too) Questions
Demon_ replied to Andy1966's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep, you don't pay for nothing. Power supplies are the same as the SSDs. Samsung 850 for 5 years or 850 pro for 10 years. -
New SSD and DCS (how too) Questions
Demon_ replied to Andy1966's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
==Edit== The Leadex series doesn't use exclusively Japanese caps. They have few CapXon caps, but used in the low-stress area. Caps with 105 °C rating have four times the life compared with similar specification caps that have an 85 °C temperature rating. Caps tier list: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supplies-101,4193-5.html Super Flower units are not available (under their name) in North America. But EVGA (T2, G2, P2, B2) uses their platforms. But, you are right, Super Flower units are as good as Seasonic. -

New SSD and DCS (how too) Questions

Spasticatedtoad I don't suggest the Cooler Master EX, it's a Tier 4 with an annoying note: (only use 75% of labeled wattage). https://www.thetechgame.com/Archives/t=5613293/power-supply-guide-the-good-and-the-bad.html http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_manufacturers -
I think the best (but more expensive) is one SSD for Windows, and one for the game. The main advantage of having a different SSD for your games will be that it won't be accessed when your OS needs to access its own files. When the OS is loaded and its resources are also, it doesn't read/write a lot. If the OS is using the paging file while the game is loading (not unusual, as other things are paged out to accommodate the game), that will load the SSD considerably. So you'd get a benefit from either a second SSD or turning the pagefile off, provided you have enough RAM. The latter used to be recommended on SSDs to extend the lifetime.

Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/Mods/aircraft/P-51D/Doc

Hardware Upgrade and no performance increase
Demon_ replied to tribundf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's a OC-48/OC-3 Nortel system. I have tested/configured/debugged them (OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, OC-192, OC-48 Ring, etc) for 21 years. But it's out of topic, sorry. -

Bit, i think it's not a K, it's a i7 77000 (Post #1). I like you too. As you said, the i7 4790K is almost better than his successor (i7 6700K). -

Message (it's not a theory) for every DCS pilots: Upgrading the trio (CPU, Mobo, RAM) for two generation higher (an unlock 4.4Ghz to a 4.2Ghz locked) is not worth the price. It's like, sale your 2014 Ford F150 for a 2017. Please respect my opinion, and don't insult me with ridiculous arguments. I'm sorry too. I'm an electronic technician (ex Nortel Networks). -
Hardware Upgrade and no performance increase
Demon_ replied to tribundf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What do you mean? Upgrading the RAM from 2133Mhz to 3000Mhz, it's ok. But upgrading from DDR3 2133Mhz to DDR4 3000Mhz is not good. You need to purchase a new mobo and CPU. It's not worst the price. The i7 4790K (4.4Ghz) is probably as good as the i7 7700 (4.2Ghz) for DCS. -

From a i7 4790K (4.4Ghz) to a i7 7700 (4.2Ghz), it's like a downgrade... Try another video drivers, low down some game settings... -

Because Intel has no competition. Get a decent aftermarket cooler to clock at 4.5ghz. -
New (used) Multiplayer Server Rig
Demon_ replied to Airogue's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
SSD need 3w each. Hard drive need 9w each. 1000rpm 120-140mm fan need 2w each. 550w from a 750w power supply, it's 73% of his max power. This is in the range of his max efficiency. It's ok. Maximum power output has nothing to do with quality and 24/7 use. -
Your overclock should be stable (no error) with Prime95 for 8+ hours. And as Cibit said (post #26), wait few days. (Twenty-four hours of testing is recommended to be sure): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime95

New (used) Multiplayer Server Rig

About the power supply The spec says 450w, >18A on the +12v: https://www.asus.com/Commercial-Servers-Workstations/Z8NAD6/specifications/ -The Gt710 need 19w: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-710/specifications -The Xeon 95w each: http://ark.intel.com/products/47920/Intel-Xeon-Processor-X5670-12M-Cache-2_93-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI -At 1.5v, the DDR3 need 2-3w per module (12-18w in total for the Z8NA-D6): http://www.buildcomputers.net/power-consumption-of-pc-components.html -And the mobo need probably 40w (or less) to run. >>>So, 19w +95w +95w +18w +40w +fans, SSD =300w or less. Seasonic power supply are the best: https://seasonic.com/product-category/consumer-products/ Samsung SSD are the best. -
Maybe the i7 7700K (4.5GHZ) instead of the i7 6700K (4.2Ghz)?

I suggest Samsung 850 evo SSD.
