Thanks. That's cool. Just so long as it's not something I've missed in the settings :D Obviously it's all good when it's Human V Human but the SP against the AI is proving difficult. Even on average skill, I just poked my tank out from behind a building thinking the trees would offer some cover and BOOM I'm instantly spotted and then dead lol. Hope they can figure someting out that doesn't drag performance down.

Hi, Anyone know what's going on with the trees in Combined Arms (currently running 1.5 OB)? I'm finding them to be a PITA when playing against AI even when AI is set to average experience. The problem is, the trees offer me or my units no cover what so ever. All they do is obscure my view so I can't fire back at the AI who on the other hand can see me as clear as day. Is there anything I can do about this myself, maybe I've missed a setting or is this something that's being looked at with the game? Cheers.

+1 The ABRIS quite frankly scared the bejesus out of me at first. It looks so complicated. But now I've taken the time and trouble to learn about it and watch videos on how to use it I can't imagine how I managed without it before. One of the most useful features I've found is where you can use the data link to plot out all the enemy positions. That alone is invaluable and allows for better planning and executions of tactics. This video helped me a lot. The trick is not to try to learn everything at once. Pick a feature and learn it. Then move on to the next.

New pilot help with audio cues and more.
Tumbleweed replied to MaxMunsta's topic in F-15C for DCS World
As a newbie, that's just what I've started to do on MP servers in the F-15C. From take off, I'll climb to around 44 - 45,000 feet then head to the combat area. I feel it gives me a lot of advantage and whether it's just in my mind or not, it gives me more reaction and planning time. I don't usually see many people up that high either. Most aircraft that I detect seem to be buzzing around between 1,000 and maybe 20,000 feet at most. There are also or it appears that there are no con trails to give you away at that height either. I've noticed the conning starts at around 27,000 feet and stops above 37 - 38,000 so you can scream in visually undetected. What I do at the minute is head in fast, TWS as many bandits as I can then hit, turn and run / evade. It's not perfect and it's probably not the by the book way but I stay alive a lot longer so I can get some experience in the air for more than 5 minutes lol. -
F-15C Cockpit Texture Missing in Mirrors
Tumbleweed replied to MaverickET's topic in F-15C for DCS World
There's no pilot in the 1st picture. Only the seat and headrest. -
Missions with dedicated WWII bombers will be so awesome. It would be nice to someday see a big online mission with multi crew capable bombers all manned to the hilt, being escorted by manned fighter escorts defending against scores of bandits. Every onling player doing their job as it would have been IRL. What an atmosphere. What a mission!

Hi, Just a couple of things. 1. Is there likely to be another hotfix for 1.5 and if so how likely is it that it will contain an amendment to this issue? I know you might not be able to answer and thats okay but I thought it worth asking. 2. I've purchased TacView over the weekend and so far it seems to keep pretty good tabs on who shot what and who hit who. Some of the MP servers allow tacview recording and some don't. In my case I wanted to find out who had shot me down out of curisoity the other day on an MP server I was fumbling around on. Of course there was no scoring info in game but I had captured a tacview recording of it and it allowed me to see everything. Useful for people that want to know. Cheers

Thanks both. I've not had much time to play the campaign since but I'll check out those settings and see if they help. Edited to add: Civ traffic was at high. Turned it off completely and it has improved a lot. Thanks!

I've just tried playing the Georgian Oil War campaign in DCS 1.5 and had to give up. I've no idea why but it's like playing at 2 frames per second from take off. It clears up a bit on the way to waypoint 2 and then goes back into super lag. All my inputs are delayed and its horrible to play like this. No other problems anywhere else i.e. instant action, building my own missions, other aircraft etc. Just this lag fest with the Georgia campaign. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers

Hi, if you've not purchased any modules / aircraft for DCS through steam yet it might be worth getting the NON-steam DCS World beta version (i.e. stand alone). IMO it's far better to run DCS stand alone than through steam anyway in that new modules released are delayed going on to steam. I'm personally not a fan of "game managers" anyway. Just one more thing to get in the way and sit eating PC resources but that's just me. I suspect your issues will go away when running DCS World Beta stand alone and also I think there would be more people able to help if it still doesn't work right. That's what I'd do if it were me.

VAICOM 2.0 for VoiceAttack
Tumbleweed replied to Hollywood_315's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, thanks. Yes, I realsied my mistake and updated. I thought I'd edited my post before you'd replied - obviously not lol Thank you. Just in the process of configuring stuff now. -
VAICOM 2.0 for VoiceAttack
Tumbleweed replied to Hollywood_315's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thank you for this. I use Voice attack for some of the KA-50 controls already and was going to set up a profile for some of the controls on the F-15C. Viacom is a much better way of handling the radio commands than how I was going to do it. Looking forward to trying this out :) Many thanks! -
Same. Glad to know they're aware. None of my tracks work tbh. Every one of them I've saved up to now just doesn't mimic how I flew the mission. At one point during a replay my KA-50 started shooting 180 away from the target zone before going into a strange downward spiral and finally crashing. "That wasn't how I remember it" was sort of the first thing that went through my mind lol.

Hi Dozer_4, I've just started to get back into DCS again and I was just thinking about posting up to find some flying buddies who want to learn to work together and learn the aircraft systems better. As much as I enjoy playing solo I have to admit it really does limit enjoyment. This sim definitely requires team work to get the most from it. I've sent you a PM with some ideas. All the best, Mike.

FacetrackNoIR possible?
Tumbleweed replied to HarpieMacaron's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi yes I use FT No IR with point tracking with 1.5 beta. I used the headtracker folder out of my regular 1.2.6 DCS. I copied the entire Headtracker folder over to the BIN folder in DCS 1.5 and that was it. Nothing else needed. Inside my headtracker folder I have HeadTracker.dll and DCS_A10C.ini and it's the 64 bit headtracker dll I got from a post on these forums ages back. If you need it, I can attatch it here to a post. I didn't need to touch any of my FaceTrack settings / curves because they were all set up from using DCS 1.2.6 so it just worked once I'd copied the headtracker folder over to DCS beta. -
My X-52 pro is a massive improvement over the Logitech 3D I first started out with HOWEVER I do wish I'd waited and saved up to go for a TM Warthog where I believe the quality of certain parts is better. The X-52 Pro is good for the money and is definitely a step up from flying with just a joystick and keyboard but there are some irritations to it. The first annoyance is with the rotary wheels on the throttle. They're pretty much useless owing to how unstable they are - at least on mine. They flutter and twitch about all over the place. Since owning my X-52 Pro, I've never been able to use them for anything in game. I tried assigning the larger rotary wheel around the E button for zoom view - BIG mistake. It just twitches about like crazy even after trying everything to deadzone out the twitching. There's just no good position on the things. The slider is also not that great either. It's slightly more stable and I tend to use it for pitch / RPM on the P-51 and it's not too bad for that but as well as the twitching, it just feels cheap and sloppy. The last irritation is how much the joystick seems to suffer from stick friction. The first thing I noticed with mine is that there is some slight play in the stick. It's not quite rock solid when centered. This can be dealt with by adding a small dead zone to the joystick X & Y axis however this seems to put the start of the sticks range of movement right at the point where the stick friction starts meaning any slight movements you want to make, you first have to fight the friction zone which then translates into the game as a massive jolt to the input as you fight to try and smoothly get the stick past the friction point. It's caused by the big metal base plate that's being pushed down against the joystick base by the spring. It reaches a certain tension on the spring and grabs on the plastic it rubs against. I've tried all kinds of plastic friendly lubricants but they don't last long and you have to keep reapplying all the time. I've not owned many other joysticks but I find the X-52 is quite bad for the stick sticking. I can't compare the X-52 pro against the warthog but there are so many people that say it's far superior that I'm convinced it's certainly better and given the choice, I wish I'd saved up. Overall though the X-52 does what I want. I've got plenty of buttons at my disposal meaning I don't have to fumble around for keyboard shortcuts in the dark and for the price these things are, I can't complain too bad. If I ignore the fluttering with the rotaries and slider all I really have to deal with is the stick friction which you just get used to. The X-52 pro isn't bad but there are things that could have been done better.

OK, here's what I'd do. I presume your PC is the one hosting the DCS game? So in your router, set your PC (the one hosting DCS) to have a static IP (you may need to look online for the instructions to do this depending on your router). In some routers it's very easy. You just find the device connected to the router, in this case your PC and you tell the router to reserve an IP for this. Some routers look for MAC addresses and bind the reserved IP to them. The instructions for setting static IPs varies from router to router but there will be instructions online. This is a good website to help. It covers setting up port forwarding and static IP assignment with common routers and common games. http://portforward.com/ Usually you want to reserve something like 192.168.0.10 for you PC. That's an internal IP address as assigned by the router. These addresses only work internally on your network. This reserves the selected IP for your PC only. From now on, the router will assign your PC that IP everytime it's connected. Nothing else can use that IP unless YOU release it in the router. Then in port forwarding, add all the ports needed for DCS and set them to forward to the static internal IP you've just reserved for your PC. Now, even if your router reboots etc, your PC (running DCS) will or should always be assigned that reserved static IP. No other device on the network will be allowed to use that internal IP. Then what you do is find and give your friend your external IP. I.e. your IP provided by your internet service provider. Providing your not using proxies or VPNs this site should tell you what your external IP address is. http://www.whatsmyip.org Then you need to give your friend your external IP and the port number for the DCS you're hosting and that should be it. You'll likely need to reboot the router and PC to apply all these IP changes as well. Also, sometimes servers take a while to appear in DCS server list so get your friend to try manually connecting if he cant see your server in the DCS master list. Think of it in terms of street names and house numbers. Your PC is the house and the router is the street. You can give your friend the external IP which will let him connect to the router (find the street) but from there, you need a house number and that's where the ports come in. Once your friend is on your street (connected to the router), the street (router) itself tells your friend which house on the street is yours (port forwarding). Without a static IP though, you basically keep moving house so your friend will never find you because even the street (router) doesn't know where you live so it can't tell your friend which house (static ip & port) to go to. Sort of. It's a bit of a clumsy analogy but it's close enough. So just to clarify incase I've confused you:- 1. The PC hosting DCS needs to have a static IP in your router. If you don't the IP assigned to the PC running DCS WILL keep changing and the ports wont know which device on the network to forward to. 2. You then need to go into port forwarding and add the relevant DCS ports to the router and then forward them to the static IP you've just created and bound to your PC. 3. Find your external IP as given to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) 4. Give your friend the EXTERNAL IP and DCS Port number 5. If your server / hosted game doesn't appear in the DCS Master Server List, get your friend to connect manually. Hope this helps!

SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
Tumbleweed replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, I'm a bit confused with the saitek .pro file. When I import it into my saitek software it's all but blank. None of the keys are showing or bound. Is that right? -
[CLOSED]Aircraft Behind Clouds Showing as Boxes
Tumbleweed replied to Tumbleweed's topic in Object Bugs
Just wanted to update this post. I've not seen this issue since I had to re-install DCS 1.5 the other day so it may have been something unique on my end. Unless anyone else has experienced this, I guess this thread can be closed / deleted. -
Reinstalling seems to have done the trick.
-
I've narrowed it down to a problem with an exe called dcs_protect.exe. For some reason it is this exe that's causing the hang. I'm re-installing DCS 1.5 onto another HDD incase the update last night managed to find some bad sectors or something. But it's definitely something to do with dcs_protect.exe. If I navigate to that file with file browser and even right click on it it sends my PC beserk so I'm now thinking it's an issue with my second drive. Just re-downloading DCS 1.5 Beta for re-install. Stay tuned!

Hi, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not so sorry if it has. I did look around and I'm sure I vaguely remember a thread about things showing as boxes but couldn't find it so don't remember what it was about. Anyway, bascially, last night (before my DCS stopped working altogether) I was flying in ACG at around 6K feet when I spotted a couple of enemy aircraft about 2 - 3K feet higher than me and maybe a couple of NM out (possibly further - my range estimation sucks) who were just about to fly through / above a bank of cloud. From my position they were the size of full stops. As I watched them go into / above the cloud I expected to lose sight of their little dots but I didn't. As soon as they were obscured by the cloud the dots were replaced by what I can only describe as blue boxes (about half the size of one of these forum smilies) the same colour as the sky surrounding the aircraft but in a way that made it look like they were cropped out of the clouds. It's like wherever the enemy plane was behind this cloud, I could see a blue box the same colour as the sky but overlaid onto the cloud, almost like someone had cut a square out the cloud allowing me to see through it although I couldn't see the dots behind, just these blue squares wherever the enemy aircraft was. I wish I had grabbed a screenie but I was so into my game I forgot. Not a couple of mins after observing that strange behaviour than I had an enemy BF on my tail and was busy taking crazy evasive action... I'll keep an eye out for it again and if I see it again, I'll take a screen shot. Also if anyone else notices the same thing, it would be good to know. Might be so subtle people haven't seen it yet - or it could just be a glitch my end. Worth mentioning. EDITED: Added MS Paint Depiction.

Repairing DCS has not worked. I still get the same message. DCS tries to start, I see a small window pop up saying initializing then it swiftly checks for updates and then that's the last I see of DCS. It hangs in the background somewhere.   LOGS ATTACHED. EDITED: I've just had this pop up randomly not 5 minutes after my last failed attempt to launch DCS 1.5 (See attached image). I'm wondering if it's an issue with the DCS protection system. In the mean time, I'm going to run some tests on my rig and make sure it's not an issue my end - although I've not installed or done anything since playing fine last night after the update first came in  UPDATE: Well, I've ran all the scanning and cleaning tools I have at my disposal and my PC is pretty clean. No viruses, trojans or malware. Just plenty of tracking cookies. It has made no difference to DCS however which still comes up with the Fatal Error message as depicted in the image attached to the post above. UPDATE #2: Just had another User Interface Application crash messages pop up (like the one in the screenshot attached to this post) 10 mins after my last failed DCS launch attempt. This time I copied the crash data. Logs1.zip
