Dogfight MiG-21bis vs MiG-21bis in glorious 60fps
Tumbleweed replied to audax's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Nice video  -
I started out with a Logitech Extreme 3D pro while I decided whether or not DCS was for me. I used that for a fair few months while I got into the sim before progressing onto a Saitek X52 Pro. Once I got more confident and was making more use of the aircrafts systems and began emmersing myself more and more, I found I needed more buttons and hats and just outgrew the Extreme 3D. I guess it all depends on a number of things really... If you're a serious simmer (or are planning to become one) then I'd get a decent HOTAS and be done with it. If you're just flying occasionally and not too seriously then try it out with a cheapo joystick like the Extreme 3D pro for a start and see how you get on before throwing large amounts of cash at flight systems. At least it if doesn't work out, you've not spent a fortune where as if you do like DCS and do decide to progress into some serious immersion, then you've not spent a lot so an upgrade to a better HOTAS is still within sight and budget. The Extreme 3D isn't a bad stick for a cheapy. You'll need to play around with the sensitivies in game a little to find what works best for you but my 3D never let me down. Infact, I had kept mine as a back up until I recently handed it down to a friend of mine that I'm trying to coax into DCS :D :joystick:

Steam Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Steam Specific Issues
Tumbleweed replied to ShaZe88's topic in Steam Support
DCS Steam Sale Hi, I'm just wondering what the differences / limitations are when using steam for DCS? I've been pestering a friend for a few weeks to get a jet or something so we can play together and now there's a sale its a good time for him to get a couple of modules to try it to see if he can get into it. He's probably going to want FC3 and CA for the time being to try. Will the fact that he buys his stuff through steam make any difference to anything such as our ability to play together in missions? stuff like that? Cheers  -
During my searching for how to control CA I came across some info that suggests certain units can re-arm if in proximity to certain supply vehicles. Don't know if that's what happened in your case but I thought I'd put it out there. Can't remember what vehicles can be resupplied as I only briefly skim read the info because I was looking for something relating to laser targeting and the battle computer on tanks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Combined Arms Mission: The Lone Gunmen Mission Type: Single Player Mission Author: TeKno Difficulty: Medium - Hard Role: Tactical Commander Vehicles Available: x4 MBT T-90 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scenario:- You are the commander of a group of tanks that due to a number of technical difficulties has fallen behind and has become separated from the rest of the column. The column, which was forced (due to a large number of US forces in the area) to continue has now passed through Tkvarcheli and is waiting for you on the outskirts on the otherside of town. Having rectified your technical issues, you prepare to make your way back to your column. Unfortunately your presence and your misfortunes have not gone un-noticed thanks to a Predator Drone operating recon in the area and now US forces have taken up a strong postion in Tkvarcheli where they await your arrival. With no way back and powerless to help, your column can only watch and await the outcome with baited breath as you pit your wits and your tanks against the might of the US forces that await. Hello. This is my first mission. It's not fancy, historically accurate or packed with objectives but it is fun. Please excuse any mistakes. All feedback, ideas, suggestions, criticisms etc welcome. With no way back and powerless to help, your column can only watch and await the outcome with baited breath as you pit your wits and your tanks against the might of the US forces that await. Your Objective(s):- Sneak, fight or speed your way through the US forces to the safety of your column. Do whatever you can to make it back alive! Rules:- 1. NO sneak peeking in the mission editor at the hidden units, triggers etc. You'll only spoil the fun and ruin it for yourselves LOL :megalol: 2. DO NOT try to blatently cut out passing through the town to the end point. Doing so will trigger a fury the likes of which you've (probably - depending upon the warped minds of other mission editors) never seen. See Rule 1. You are not forced to strictly follow roads but giving the town a blatent wide birth will result in... well, you'll see :music_whistling: 3. Have fun! Tips / Advice / Intel:- 1. What you see on the map may not necessarily reflect the true number of forces or their locations. Be prepared for anything! 2. There are two ways (that I can see) in which you could play this mission: Control and command all four T-90s as a group (not something I've done) Take control of and play each tank in turn - sort of like having four lives. 3. Other than the Predator Drone running recon for the US forces, there are no other aircraft units available in the game. 4. ALL Labels are disabled by default (to add to realism). 5. A number of hidden units are in operation (again to add to the realism - sketchy intel due to separation / confusion). 6. Enemy forces have been set to a variety of skill levels. Trigger an event when a unit or group enters an area???
Tumbleweed replied to Tumbleweed's topic in Mission Editor
Think I may have solved it though I'm not sure it's correct but it does do what I want. I've changed the trigger to NO EVENT as opposed to ON TAKE CONTROL and have added the condition PART OF COALITION IN ZONE (red). This seems to trigger the on screen message nicely with just my tank passing into the StartPoint. There is one issue however and that is the message displayed is now cluttered in amongst the indicator at the top of the (hud) screen and sits on top of it. Can anything be done to make the message more prominent and moved away from where it currently pops up?? -
Hi, I think I'm posting in the right place - if not, please forgive me. Anyway, I'm having ALOT fun using Combined Arms and now I want to create a simple single player mission of my own. It's all going good except I've now started to add scripted events and I'm a little unsure of how to do what I want. Basically the scenario I'm building is this:- A group of tanks have become seperated from the rest of their unit and must battle their way through a now occupied town to regroup with the rest of their force. Massively outnumbered, the commander of the cut off group has decided to run the gauntlet and go for broke. Where I'm at:- So far I'm happy with my layouts, all the units I've addded and their positions etc. I've made it so that the human player can only control the isolated column of tanks and have played the mission through along the way and am happy with how it runs but obviously I'd like to add some scripted events. The two I'm stuck with at the minute are start and end zones. I'd like it so that as the player drives through the start zone, it triggers a text message on the screen. Something along the lines of "From Commander of Russian Forces: Wishing you the best of luck, see you on the other side. Then when a player makes it through the town to his main unit, it triggers a message and signals the end of the mission. What I've tried:- I've added two trigger zones. StartPoint and EndPoint. In the trigger menu, I've set them up as trigger once when take control thinking they will only trigger when a unit is in that zone but it seems I am wrong. For the StartPoint I've set this:- 1 ONCE (StartPoint, On Take Control - MESSAGE TO COALITION(Red, message, 10) I've done something similar with the EndZone but the action is set to end mission declaring the reds the winner. Unfortunately, the first time I started the mission, it immediately ended having met the endzone criteria of Take Control ????? Guess I'm doing it wrong. I'm hoping that some kind soul can point out my error  Many thanks,

Hehehe maybe I will :D Holy cow that's a LOT to remember. I like the flash card app though.. I think I'll be getting that :D Thanks for pointing it out :)

I was flying around in the F-15c Clean Sweep mission the other night and my Mrs and I were giggling like school kids as the term Wizzard Bra kept popping up over the radio... While I'm familiar with some small amounts of terminoligy, this one eluded me. Today, I've been looking up the brevity codes and trying to commit some of them to memory in order to try and improve my immersion into the sim. One thing I did come across which will stick in my mind forever because it seemed to describe me to a TEE in every mission I've ever flown (be it single player or multiplayer) is: TUMBLEWEED. Put me in any mission and I get lost, can't find the enemy, can't see the enemy and only ever find anything to shoot by sheer luck LOL. I know when I finally get confident enough to fly with some people and hook up to teamspeak, I'll be using the brevity Tumbleweed a heck of a lot LOL :megalol:

I had a quick flight on VA earlier and it was a bit slow to connect. Usually it's brought up the list after a second or two but today I was waiting about 30 seconds on the connecting to master server message before it finally connected. Something is definitely going on.

This happened to me really badly yesterday. I first put it down to my internet being overused but after kicking everyone off the net and rebooting the router it was still bad. I was only getting 3 or 4 servers coming up in the list and they were all mega high ping (130+). After about an hour it went back to normal. I was gonna post about it but didn't see anyone else had mentioned it so assumed it must be an issue local to me. Obviously not.

COOOR! That's a LOT of warbird p0rn right there :censored::bounce:

Just wanted to say thanks for the sale. I do try and buy at full price when possible but the sales really do help. Today I picked up the Sabre, the F15 and Combined Arms - all at a great price. I look forward to MANY more hours of enjoyment thanks to the addition of these new modules to my collection.

Slightly OT but wanted to say SH3 was/is my absolute fave out of that series and GWX more than doubled its playability. Wish we could get an updated version / remake of SH3. The same game but brought up to today's standards. That would be awesome.

I had one of these prior to upgrading to my x52 and had no trouble getting it to work with DCS. Should just be plug and play (inc installing the driver(s)). As mentioned above, make sure you tune the axis - especially the twist rudder input as it's very sensitive and will kick the aircraft around quite badly. Had mine for about a year and it never let me down. I recently gave mine to a friend so that he could start using DCS. I'm sorry I'm not clued up enough with DCS to offer more advice. Mine just sort of worked. Hope you get it sorted though. I know how frustrating it can be when something doesn't work like it's supposed to.

Been flying the Blackshark alot lately and I remembered seeing a thread here a while back about voice control - so I decided to dig it up do some experimenting with the software recommended by others. First of all I tried VAC but it refused to play ball; moaning about phrase understood but activation key not pressed or some such nonsense so after about an hour I gave up with it. Finally I settled on VoiceAttack (currently using the trial but plan to buy it now I've tested it) and got my select few commands working in minutes. I created a profile mainly for the weapons systems and autopilot to save having to fumble for keyboard shortcuts for those systems / buttons I couldn't bind to my X52 Pro. Then while binding keys, I had a bit of a clever thought... Since it's possible in most of these voice control softwares to record a series of key presses, assign delays etc. it got me thinking about whether or not it would be possible to program in a series of inputs to simulate an evasive maneuver with a simple voice command (queue cheesy evasive pattern delta voice commands lol :megalol:) but seriously, I personally can't see why it couldn't be done. Say for example my first evasive maneuver: Pre-conditions -> Must be above 3000ft (grnd level) -> Only performed from a stationary hover Actions -> Begin Flare Deployment Sequence -> Disengage Hover Mode -> Disengage AutoPilot -> Descend Aircraft Rapidly by 1000ft -> Change Direction to X -> Increase Speed to X -> Level Off Aircraft etc.... It would definitely take some working out and implementing but I'm pretty sure it could be done in some way. I know right now some purists are ripping their eyeballs out at what they've just read and screaming that's not cricket but it sure would be fun to be hovering in combat when you get that attack warning and just say - evasive maneuver 1 or whatever and the aircraft goes into auto defence lol. Might just be the beer talking but I thought it sounded like a fun exercise :):joystick::pilotfly:

Am I going crazy? Track replay changed??
Tumbleweed replied to Tumbleweed's topic in General Questions
That would explain it. I was zipping through at max FFWD to the action LOL -
And this is why I make these forums my first port of call in the morning while supping my wake up coffee. All these little tidbits of interesting information that pop up. I never knew the nav lights were a sign of surrender. Cool =)

Am I going crazy? Track replay changed??
Tumbleweed replied to Tumbleweed's topic in General Questions
Thanks both. Seriously thought I was going loopy lol :pilotfly: -
I just got finished flying a quick generated KA-50 night mission against ground vehicles. Aside from my wingman, I also had a pair of AI apaches doing their own sweep a couple of miles away off my port side. Got through the mission and RTB safely and thought I'd watch the track back to see if I could grab some screens. I clicked watch track and sped up the playback speed to where I reached the enemy when all of a sudden, I got shot down and killed. This did not happen in the mission. Checking the map the only units present were the AI apaches and the remaining enemy forces. I've had this happen once before in the past but couldn't work it out and just put it down to something I'd done. Not sure how or why this happens but I certainly didn't get shot down during the mission yet both my wingman and I died in the replay. Not sure if it's related or not but during the actual mission, the apaches vanished in a hail of ground fire. Pretty sure they got shot down as they wern't on the map any longer. I don't suppose that the replay recorded that data incorrectly and applied the death to me and my wingman by mistake???? Is that possible????:huh::huh:
