  1. Hi guys. Last night a new update for 1.5 came in and so I updated (didn't reboot my PC) then went straight online and played a couple of hours of MP with no probs. This morning, DCS wont run at all. I double click the icon and it goes to start up (I see a brief flash of the updater checking for updates) then the process hangs or something. I get no splash screens, nothing. Just DCS.exe and dcs_protect.exe running in Task Manager. After about 5 minutes this pops up (see attached pic). I've tried several times and it's the same. Once it hangs, you can't even end the tasks in task manager properly either. Trying to end dcs_protect.exe results in task manager hanging and locking up. I'm going to run a repair and see how that goes. Just thought I'd post it up.
  2. You wont regret it. FC3 is so worth the money for how much you get. The F-15C and SU-27 models are worth the FC3 asking price alone. Then when the other aircraft get their model updates, you'll be quids in not having to buy them seperately. Win! I have more aircraft in my hangar than I know how to fly but I buy the ones I like whether I fly them right now or not purely to support ED and I'll never get bored :) I mostly fly the F-15C, P-51D and the KA-50 but I've got the others when I'm ready to learn them. Have fun buddy, you're in for hours and hours and hours of fun. Especially now 1.5 is out in Beta. Sim flying has never looked or felt this good. :joystick:
  3. I've experienced something similar a couple of times now. Sometimes I'll join a server and the only thing I'll get is a panning view around an airfield. No spawn options or anything. I can't even press ESC to bring up the menu to exit. I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and end process. Tonight I had just joined ACG with no problems but it was right at the end of a mission. So I sat in my aircraft and waited for the server to load the next mission. Once reloaded I was faced with the same scenario again. No spawn menu, no exit menu. Just a pan around view of the airfield. So I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and then went back and re-joined. I then went through and started up my p-51 and taxied to the runway only for the server to then crash. Not sure if that's related or not. I have attached a complete zip up of my logs folder in case they help. It contains all my logs since installing DCS Beta about a week and a half ago. I do have one mod installed in my beta DCS 1.5 and that's the Proper Neck mod so that I'm not looking at the headrest in my P-51 when I turn around but I had the above issues well before installing it. I also copied over my input profiles from my 1.2.6 to my DCS beta when I installed 1.5 purely because I couldn't be bothered to write down all the buttons for my X-52 and remap them again in DCS so this may or may not play a part. Other than that, my DCS 1.5 Beta is stock standard. No other mods, tweaks or alterations. Hope the logs help. DCS 1.5 is absolutely cracking especially the new scaling for aircraft spotting. I'm well impressed! Logs.zip
  4. Yeah, sorry, I saw that after I'd posted LOL. I quite often fly the way the pilot in the video flies. In fact, when I first watched the clip, I found myself more or less anticipating his moves especially when going over peaks, going inverted then pulling the nose into the valley below. I just thought that's how everyone flew :music_whistling:
  5. +1000
  6. My guess is all the stock missions / campaigns will need updating for the new engine. I've read of people having issues with their 1.5 missions when small updates come in then things break. No doubt 1.26 to 1.5 is a massive gap and will have knock on effects with all the missions built pre-1.5. Just my guess. :)
  7. Hi, when I installed DCS 1.5 it installed 2 icons. One for SP and one for MP. Turns out the MP icon doesn't launch much other than a black screen for me. The way I get MP is to go through Single Player and use the Mulitplayer option in there. That brings up the server list etc. all under one roof. I've deleted the MP icon now.
  8. For 1.5 Beta you need to go into the Nvida Cpanel and select Manage 3D settings. Then under the Programs tab there is a drop down. Next to that is a button marked Add. Click add and find DCS. If you have the stable current release installed along side the Beta then you'll need to select the DCS grey icon. It has DCS in text on it. The green icon with the A-10 on it is the current stable release.
  9. I for one would welcome this idea. I personally feel this might encourage more people to use comms and would make for better SA and co-op all round. I'm sure people that wouldn't ordinarily use voice comms would be more tempted knowing they needn't download or set up anything extra and hearing all the comm chatter in flight might also make people want to join in more. I'm not a big comms user. I tend to feel like I'm intruding busting right into teamspeak. That and I'm not really a social chatty person in that respect. I do tend to miss out a lot because of that and I miss out on crucial info and cooperation. I'd certainly feel more like joining in with a full in game comms system BUT it would need to be protected from abuse in some way or you'll get people piping music through it just to be f00ls or people ranting abuse. Given that the base game is free you'll soon find youtube clowns joining in public games just to make troll videos so they get more ad money. Just my 2 cents.
  10. Hi, I'm not sure that this is a DCS 1.5 bug or not but I do get an issue with headtracking. I use FaceTrackNOIR with point tracking and the Headtracker64 DLL folder in DCS Bin as I have with the current stable DCS. Basically what happens is this. I run FaceTrack first and then run DCS 1.5 as per usual. Then I join a MP game and headtracking works fine. Soon as I disconnect from the MP server I'm on and go join another I lose my head tracking. Facetrack is still running fine but it seems to lose its link with the game when I come out of a server and go back to the menu / server list. To cure it, I have to close DCS, close facetrack and re-launch both. As I say, this may not be a DCS issue it may be facetrack or the DLL or something but I thought I'd post it. That aside, I'm loving the new DCS. Thank you for all the hard work Eagle team!
  11. I've not flown for a few months. Sorry to see VA is still down. It's a great server. Hope you guys get back online soon. You're very much missed.
  12. I don't know about TrackIR but in FaceTrackNoIR you can set up the Min - Max LED light point size in PX and you can also adjust the brightness in the software to see brighter or dimmer light points. When I fly in the day, the sun still creeps in and washes out my LEDs so I have to adjust both of these settings to null out any unwanted points of light caused by sunlight and reflections. I would think TrackIR would have something similar built it for such scenarios? RE Defusing the LED Lights - I saw ages back when I was building my tracking headset some guy used Ping Pong balls as LED diffusers. He just drilled a hole in them and popped them over the leds.
  13. I voted B-17. 1. Because it was one hell of an aircraft 2. If/when DCS adds in the multi crew aircraft stuff, it's going to be insane flying a fully human crewed bomber :)
  14. Not flown in a while but I'll second that :) The best place to free fly in DCS MP.
  15. Nice settings. Thanks for sharing :)
  16. Nice video. Will have to check your server out some time :)
  17. Good job! Liking the screens of the spit and the ground vehicles.. Very realistic looking and good lighting. It all looks worth the wait :)
  18. Only 18 grand GBP - I'll take two please...... I wish. Seriously though that is awesome... as close as I'd ever get to flying that's for sure. And now imagine when or if DCS incorporates dual seat aircraft and add an extra seat to that sim. Front seat pilot, rear seat RIO. All fully interactive. Man what a simulator!!!!
  19. ADHD + Lengthy Manuals = :cry_2::censored::sleep:
  20. I didn't know that. Thanks. I'll give their server a try. I've not found many that support CA slots and I got a bit bored with just solo play. This might renew my interest.
  21. Yep - I'd go RIO no probs. Two people working an aircraft to its full potential, both on comms.. Devastating. Used to play Battlefield 3 when it first came out and the Helo gunships were virtually unstoppable when you got a good pilot/gunner combo working comms. Not the same kind of game but certainly the same scenario I believe. Can't wait for multiseat aircraft personally. I'd also say in my opinion it will be more practical for both to buy the module. That way pilot / rio teams can practice both roles at leisure.
