The Corsair is in development since 2015 with the model currently being finalized, for the F-8 they have just begun to collect data.

Any of the modern fighters that became the backbone of their respective air forces in the last 20 years: F/A-18E/F EA-18G Eurofighter Typhoon F-22A Gripen Rafale J-10 MV-22 WW2: Most of them are already on the list since 2 years, to be eventually added to the assets pack, I just hope it will actually happen soon. Magnitude 3 LLC has also signaled that they plan to finish their Iwo Jima map one day. If we are lucky it will still be a part of their F4U project.

Because the Fw-190A8 is much more useful for DCS WW2 than the Me262? German side needs some bread and butter fighter that was actually deployed in large numbers, fought over Normandy and also a ground attack plane like the Fw-190F8. Better they try to save the project and correct course than following a bad plan forever.

That additional level of detail on land benefits anything flying low and slow, but not some underwater mountains.
-
Why waste precious man hours now because something might or might not happen in the distant future? They can always upgrade the map if DCS 688(i) will ever be a thing. That would be the smallest amount of work if they want to turn DCS into a submarine sim. Detailed bathymetry for a flightsim map would just increase development time and decrease performance with no benefit at all.

Let's hope that will change. The Fighter Collection owns a Corsair and as ED's parent company should be willing to help, thus recording authentic sounds shouldn't be out of question.

Eurpean thatre : Normandy Approrpiate Bf109?
Cunctator replied to Kev2go's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
An accurate WW2 era night fighter would be perfect as a DCS module. I can't think off any successful attempt to simulate WW2 nocturnal combat, radars and other sensors before. So many aspects that would be genuinely new for WW2 flight sims. -
The Sea Harriers, like all first generation Harrier models, have better performance because they have a different wing, better suited for high speeds. When they developed the Harrier II, like our AV-8B NA, the wing was redesigned for higher payloads and better handling. The best fighter version is the Sea Harrier FA2, with the old wing, Blue Vixen radar, later developed into Typhoon's CAPTOR, AMRAAM and Sea eagle anti ship missiles. That's the version I would like to see most. It only has a limited ground attack capability, thus the FA2 would round off our Harrier well.

Boeing pitching the F-15 to Germany
Cunctator replied to Hummingbird's topic in Military and Aviation
I doubt the F-15 has any chance. The F-35 has stealth, is generally more advanced and apparently cheaper too. Germany would get Block 4 jets in the mid 2020s, when the plane is in full rate production and matured. Airbus has proposed an upgraded Typhoon variant optimized for the strike role. It would secure jobs in Germany and maintain the industrial base until the new fighter, developed with France, will be ready. Additionally and all Typhoon force should be cheaper to operate. The politicians are favoring the Eurofighter while the Luftwaffe wants the F-35. -
Thanks for the update! Hopefully 2019 will finally be the year of the Corsair.

It never ceases to amaze me how deeply encapsulated the entire BMW 801 engine block is compared to most other radials and how an oil cooler at that position is sufficiently functional.
-
Maybe cooperating directly with the author Dietmar Hermann could also be an option? He is still active and publishing about the Fw 190 since decades. Mr. Hermann must have amassed a vast collection of documents and knowledge about the plane and it's pilots by now.
-
They only cut a few inches from each wing to fit inside the hangar decks of British carriers, with minimal impact on flight behavior. A slightly increased roll rate and less tendency to float during landings was reported by the pilots.
-
Unfortunately the publisher does not exist anymore. I looked for this book last year and couldn't find it anywhere.

Ugra Media, also working for other sims. http://www.ugra-media.ru/

Maybe the new free map is one of the WW2 maps. Would make a lot of sense to have one free map for modern ops and WW2.
-
Realistically all we will get is Fleet Air Arm Corsairs vs. Fw 190A8 for a long time. B.t.w. it would be great if they could include a clipped wing FAA version:

DCS: Christen Eagle II now available for pre-purchase!
Cunctator replied to Hiromachi's topic in Christen Eagle II
People should actually spend some time with MS FS 2004 or any 20 year old before making absurd claims like these. Maybe try some constructive criticism next time. I.e. say why you think the graphics are bad and how to improve them. Siming 20 years ago, almost the same :smilewink:: -
For me R30 looks a variant of the SWA 10 Auslöseschrittschaltwerk, which was also used to control the launch of R4M type rockets. If this photo is from a late war aircraft with Panzerblitz rockets installed it could explain the lack of documentation. https://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/fl-50959-ausloeseschrittschaltwerk-swa-10-xii-1944-2 https://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/fl-50959-ausloeseschrittschaltwerk-swa-10-xii-1944 https://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/fl-50958-ausloeseschrittschaltwerk-swa-10b-1944

This is also directly contradicted by reports from Harrier pilots. In M. Franzak's book he explicitly describes multiple times how they dropped those bombs when flying with such loadouts in Afghanistan 2002/03.
-
Initially it wasn't possible to load the TPOD on the centerline station, only after some more upgrades. About 2010 was the date I've found.

Yes that's the D9 in the USAF museum. D9 tails have an additional section added to balance the longer nose. https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Visit/Museum-Exhibits/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/196261/focke-wulf-fw-190d-9/

Hopefully the DMT will be better simulated once ED develops contrast locking for the Hornets Walleyes. Hard to see how well the final Harrier in DCS will be simulated without a public roadmap. The real Harrier can use height data from the radar altimeter to compute a CCIP target solution without the ARBS. I always assumed that this is the case in DCS too. I had the impression that CCIP bombing is more accurate when attacking locked targets, but that could be just me aiming better.

+1 It think the F8 sometime after the A8 is finished is a no brainer. It is the easiest option for DCS, it was the Luftwaffe's primary ground attack plane during the final year of the war and, with exception of the jets, also the most survivable. Simply perfect to flesh out DCS WW2.
