  1. + 1 Even at 1000 m B-17 gunners are frighteningly accurate. You can only stay for a few seconds at the very edge of their engagement zone without being torn apart.
  2. ALARM was never integrated into the Typhoon. The Super Hornet has a much greater number of A2G weapons already integrated and can directly take over the maritime strike role from the Tornados with their Kormoran missiles. Super Hornets can do aerial refueling just as the Tornados. Kuwait has chosen the same mix for a reason. The Luftwaffe has always used multiple types of fighters simultaneously since its rebirth after WW2. Logistics won't be much different to the 80ties (Alpha Jet, Tornado, Phantom), 90ties (MiG 29, Tornado, Phantom) or now with Tornados and Typhoons.
  3. I will be more than happy with any Typhoon. However, personally I am more interested in the plane and its capabilities than balanced multiplayer and would prefer the most modern Eurofighter that can be accurately modeled. We already have planes form 8 decades in DCS and I don't see this as any problem, or advantage, at all. I love to have an universal combat sim sandbox with aircraft from all eras. As time moves forward more and more newer stuff can be included in DCS and it shouldn't be stuck in an artificial 2003-2007 bracket. The DCS Harrier is already equipped with JDAM capable BRU-70/A digital improved triple ejector rack (DITER), which were first used in combat in 2015 and can carry the TPOD on the centerline station, which only became an option in the 2010ish timeframe.
  4. Towed decoy deployed:
  5. Your own quote from this post explicitly says that the C3 injection system could only be used when already airborne and was intended for emergency situations. Not for take off. German: "nur im Fluge" = "only during flight". "in dringenden Notfällen" = "in urgent emergencies"
  6. The limit for C3 injection is 1000 m, not 1000 ft. It can be used up to three times per mission for up to 10 minutes, with a 10 min cooldown period between. Not intended for take off but to give fighter bombers and attack aircraft an extra speed boost, up to 45 km/h, to increase their survivability during low level attacks. Hopefully we will see this once the F8 and G8 are released.
  7. The real weapon should be targeted at the trailing plane of the enemy formation and launched from a distance of about 1200 - 1000 m. In theory it will then detonate about 300 meters in front of the targeted aircraft and hopefully at the center of the bomber formation. In DCS this seems to work decently well. I can damage consistently 2-3 B-17s when attacking this way. Problem is their tail gunners already cut me to pieces within seconds from 1000 m.
  8. With the current ground unit DM anything else would have been a huge surprise. Clearly they have plans fo all those bombs, otherwise they work on could hardly be justified.
  9. This site has some good descriptions of German bombs, including their sub variants: http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/bombs.html In theory a SD bomb produces more splinters when exploding, thus making it more efficient against certain lightly armored targets in the open field too. In DCS hopefully once the new damage model is rolled out to ground units.
  10. I only see twin engine A-20 Havoc bombers from the upcoming assets pack update at 1:37 and USAF F-86s in green camo thereafter.
  11. We need an US WW2 destroyer like the Fletcher class next to escort the upcoming Essex class carrier and allied convoys on the Normandy, Channel and Mariana maps. Hopefully some F4U news soon, its almost time again for Magnitudes quarterly updates.
  12. Some nice blog post regarding how various WW2 planes, including the Corsair, got such nicknames: https://bshistorian.wordpress.com/tag/whistling-death/
  13. Last patch the Fw190A8 graphic in the loadout editor had two more hardpoints under the wings labeled. Thus W.Gr.21 rockets will hopefully arrive very soon.
  14. So basically an U-Boat movie from the destroyers captain's perspective? That's awesome! I will see this for sure. When the trailer first popped up on my Youtube a few days ago I skipped it and thought that it was just a new trailer for this "masterpiece":
  15. +1 The biggest thing still missing. There is clearly work being done on the Fw190A8, but any kind of road map out of early access as for the F-18 and F-16 modules would be highly appreciated.
  16. F4U is already in development by Magnitude 3 LLC: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=258912 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=256985 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=154611
  17. Not mentioned in the change log, but we have AB250 and AB 500 cluster bombs now :), the former with two types of sub munitions.
  18. Back then when the DCS F-14 was first announced, one of the Leatherneck devs (before the Split) said that they had no problems acquiring a license from Northrop Grumman with reasonable conditions. Thus whatever went wrong with Pacific Fighters in 2004 does not seem to be of any relevance today.
  19. Their last update was posted shortly before Christmas. A few weeks earlier the Corsair and Essex class carrier were presented at some virtual airshow. Also they don't talk much about it, the F4U seems to progress well. http://leatherneck-sim.com/2019/12/22/christmas-update/
  20. Yes, with one forward firing 7.92 mm machine gun and two 20 mm cannon (+ SC50 bombs) the Ar-196 had a similar armament than contemporary fighters and it made the plane quite versatile. It was more than capable of destroying even larger enemy reecon planes (if it could catch them) and the cannons were also effective in damaging surface targets. The Bismarck launched an Ar196 against a RAF Catalina, planes from German commerce raiders were used to attack single merchantmen early in the war (to take out their radios) or two Ar-196 attacked and ultimately captured the submarine HMS Seal.
  21. The Sea Harrier FRS.1 is the next Harrier coming from Razbam and will be the first with a radar. JDAM implementation was included in the big update just before Christmas. That was about 1.5 months ago, not 4, and we didn't get any DCS update since nearly one months now. They only accidentally included JDAMS as a selectable loadout some time in autumn, but they were completely non functional then. Changelog: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4143422&postcount=83
  22. The Japanese deployed float plane fighters from islands bases, the A6M2-N being the most prominent case, the US just experimented with various designs, like a Devastator or Wildcat on floats. Never heard that anyone used battleships for this, except some rather heavily armed reece planes like the Ar-196.
  23. There is this, a free map of "La Ferté-Alais", a town near Paris famous for its airshow. But basically as said above, it is a huge static object to be placed in the empty areas of existing maps. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243744
  24. You can just switch your stable version to open-beta and back without needing two parallel installs or reinstalling the whole game.
  25. Mk-77 fire bombs, the successor to Napalm, are on EDs To-Do list for the Hornet. Once they are properly implemented in game and all effects done I am sure we will see older Napalm based weapons as well.
