  1. Search -> Advanced Search -> Titles only, search for BVR Plenty of threads there, just like Frostie said. :)
  2. There's nothing wrong with trying to help people. But they might aswell start the correct way. You don't need a masters in physics to understand how things work in air combat. In BVR, you need have a checklist of information to consider before/during/after a fight. Most of these things are pretty straight forward but you either figure it out yourself or someone teaches it to you. Once you know what to look for it's a hell of a lot easier.
  3. Nothing, terrain is overrated in DCS because the majority of players don't know how to deal with it so they rather join the lawnmowing bandwagon. :)
  4. There are some cases where climbing can be more beneficial than diving or keeping altitude. The point is that we're back to step 1 again, because he still doesn't have a clue why he's supposed to do this or that. No matter how many friggin tricks you got, if you don't know when and why to use them they'll usually kill you instead of helping. Once you figure out what matters in a fight you start thinking in terms of the information you have in front of you instead of a bag of tricks to pick from. With enough experience you can analyze the situation in a short amount of time and come up with a solution. Most of the maneuvers you'll use will make a lot more sense and you'll understand when and how to do what. It's like you don't start to learn how to ride a bike by doing a backflip..
  5. Here we go again, everyone's nose stuck in the details. :) Don't even bother going into tactics or any system specifics before you have an understanding how relative energy and other flight parameters define any given fight. You could start by figuring out how speed and altitude affect it, then add more parameters, like relative positions and flight patterns before/at/after launch etc. Being a good fighter pilot is no magic, you need to have a high level of understanding about everything that matters. You can learn as many tricks as you want but as long as you don't understand why and how they work it's all useless.
  6. Yeah but this thread was about A2A doctrine, not other means of idiotic destruction. In my opinion it's just unrealistic to except a side that lacks technology to successfully fight another that has massive technological superiority. Whatever airforce in the world you are at the moment, given sufficient financial support I bet you would be able to buy ARH capability. ARH capability has been a key requirement for a fighter for more than a decade now, so if you don't have this then you don't have much else either, unless the military is being constructed by a group of incompetent morons. Following all that the lack of sufficient finances would result in a low amount of flight hours per pilot, worse training quality, and other things that are crucial to the pilot's ability to perform. I'd say a decade or two ago it would have been a chance to fight the uphill battle, and it indeed has been fought a few times. But by now the EW department advanced so much that most of the tactics used before would simply not work anymore. Specifically looking at ambushing people from terrain cover/low flying/baiting and some more of this stuff. With today's level of electronics I assume that they'll have a very high level of coverage of the airspace and if something appears out of nowhere they'll know about it well in time. On top of all that even if you had ARH and modern sensors you would still run into the problem of what are the differences between your equipment and the the opponents', to further determine tactics.
  7. Any strategy that revolves around defeating ARH wielding opponent without having your own ARH most often relies on gaining some other form of advantage, be it intelligence, better SA, numerical advantage, and the list goes on. If a given airforce doesn't have ARH capability then it's also quite possible that they are lacking sufficient EW equipment (radars, jammers, datalinks, etc that are up to date) merely due to a probable financial issue. In this sort of situation where the opponent has a high level of technical superiority in every aspect - ARHs, AESA, modern ECM, latest generation of network warfare tools, not to mention AWACS support - it's extremely difficult to put up a decent fight.
  8. LOL yeah that was funny. I guess he probably STT'd Rip so that's why he didn't see me. Although I don't recall him saying he's being hardlocked. Our SA was a little behind us there :D
  9. One word. Amazing.
  10. I have to say this was the most fun I've ever had in an event. It was seriously thrilling and the endgame was just priceless. Especially dancing in the very end to buy time without having any weapons! :D
  11. It probably would, but having only internal fuel left you shouldn't have any problems landing. I actually unbinded fuel dump and left it without a command because every now and then you just happen to missclick it and then it's not very funny. I don't recall using fuel dump ever on purpose in DCS. If you still have external tanks obviously drop those.
  12. :D I think I'm pretty fine on FPS atm. If I wanna up the ram I'm thinking about 16Gb with 1866 or better MHz with 2x8 sticks for future scaling options. I do wanna get an SSD aswell, likely to buy these together once I have the money and it becomes necessary, neither of those are present atm. As far as OC-ing goes, I'm not very much into it yet and so far I'm happy with what I've seen already, not sure what it would really bring. If I have the time, I'll do some research later and ask friends about it. I thought so too that the 212 would do allright up to ~ 4,5 GHz, I probably won't need anything higher.
  13. The time has finally come to enter a new world! Now running this: i5 4690K, no OC yet EVGA 2983-KR GTX980 FSP Aurum Gold 650W COOLERMASTER Hyper 212 EVO GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-SLI ASUS PB278QR RAM's still the old 4x2 1333MHz, I'll fix that sometime later. Also skipped on buying an SSD due to some unforeseen events. Some of my squad mates know the details too :D I have to say, after using a 19" for nearly a decade and starting DCS with bare minimum settings on that resolution I'm utterly blown away. Albeit the price of all this has blown me away too, but hella worth :D I'll head to watch some DCSW 2.0 videos soon, I might get stuck there a while. :)
  14. Set up a decently long final, not too long, stay around 19 uAoA, aimed at the start of the runway this will usually give you an easy landing without having to flare really hard. If you have to flare very hard you failed your approach, for whatever reason it is. Most commonly being lazy is the reason :) You can lower flaps without hydraulics so it shouldn't be much of a problem, aero brake after touchdown (careful not to liftoff again). If you have no brakes you might not be able to stop on a shorter runway like Novo or Gele. Batumi isn't much longer but should be fine.
  15. Off topic, but Has it ever crossed your mind that it might be AMD cards overdoing smoke renders? It sure does seem ridiculous to eyeball things more than 10nm away without a problem.
  16. It wouldn't strike me as unusual to see a company start out with outstanding build quality and then scale it back after they made sufficient hype about themselves. Obviously we can't tell :) Yeah it's more than a driver but they want to shove it down your throat so hard it's difficult not to manage installing it, especially for the first time. You have to go pretty deep on their homepage to find a driver that is actually labeled STANDALONE LEGACY. Clear indicator that their strategy is to eventually wipe those out and only support the synapse junk. What was utterly nonsense is that with synapse installed the options you have set in it would not apply until you actually logged in. I agree the adder is a great mouse as long as it works. I would expect no less than 5 years of wear to break a piece of hardware clearly intended for people to actually smash it. Especially for the price it sells. The time I bought my adder it actually costed half as much as it does now, and I don't recall any big changes after the 3.5G version. Nothing worth a double up in price, anyway.
  17. I'd stay away from razer products. I have a deathadder myself, after a year or so it started having click/scroll issues, atm it's about 4 yrs old and it's borderline broken. Their recent cloud driver is a pile of shit, it doesn't work offline and you have to keep logging in. Not to mention I've heard other ppl saying that it slows the system. I reverted to old driver. Honestly the only good thing about the deathadder is that there's a left handed version.. Heard a lot of good about steelseries sensei, I'll do some more research but it's likely my replacement candidate. I miss the good old build qualities, we had a little samsung mouse that cost nothing. We smashed it for like 7 years playing diablo 2 and other click heavy based games and it never had a single problem. My deathadder was doubleclicking/skipping after a year of diablo 3 in comparison. One might call bad luck with faulty production, but even then their software support drives me away from buying anything from them again. Seriously, next thing you know you gotta log in before you can take a piss.
  18. As far as the CPU goes, i7 might be a good investment for the future for things that make use of the cores, but DCS won't. A 4690k might be better value for the money, that's what I got just now aswell. With the 212 EVO and a good case you can probably oc a 4690k to 4,5 GHz without any problems. About the VGA. Make sure you look at the exact versions, not just the fact that its a 970. You can lose up to 15-20% value in performance if you take an older version. Don't need to do any fancy research, just have a look at EVGA's homepage and find out what version you put in your list. Also definitely recommend ACX over reference coolers, cheaper and better. They're idle by default up to about 60 C, so if you're not actually gaming it won't make any noise. You can even run some games with the fan off. :D
  19. In any combat scenario your chances of survival take a nosedive and converge to zero as soon as you start passing 50 kft. But if you insist on suiciding be my guest.
  20. To be honest a global statistics system could do as much harm as good. I personally don't want to deal with all of the "stat padders".
  21. Sooooooooolty! :D
  22. I thought so too, that ejecting under such circumstances would be a part of SOP.
  23. Still better than breaking the fuselage in half, like in the other case. From what I know it went uncontrollable after impact and the pilot chose to eject because of that. I wouldn't wanna be in the thing when it starts tumbling either. According to other non official sources, the damage might be beyond repair. They also probably smashed the LITENING that was onboard.
  24. Another hungarian Gripen crashed. About 10:50 our time, from what I hear it was a gear malfunction, the pilot ejected after belly landing. What the ****. Not sure how much damage was caused to the jet. EDIT: According to official statement the pilot could not raise the nose gear after takeoff, despite numerous attempts. After emptying the tanks he belly landed the jet and then ejected. He's conscious, and he's being investigated. Best wishes to him! The jet looks allright. Probably repairable, unlike the other one.
  25. For a start they would have to work on the ECM we already have, because atm it's as far from simulation as it gets. But they probably won't, because there just isn't much information to get.
