Roger thanks a lot!

Congrats! :)

I don't think you've quite understood me. I meant no notching, no chaffing, and all of that stuff. Obviously in that case anything can happen. Just take a case of a bandit and a friendly flying directly towards you close together, they will not maneuver under any condition. I know it doesn't make sense, but just for the sake of proving the point. You fire at the bandit from a range further than active range, with a maintained bug or lock will the MCG help the ARH target the bad guy? Again in the context of DCS. I imagine it surely does IRL.
-
So if you're looking at a furball of a friendly and a bandit and you shoot at the bad guy from more than 8 miles and you maintain lock, assuming none of them do anything to confuse your radar, it still has a chance to jump on the friendly? In the context of DCS, not real life.
-
GG, while we're at this, when going active, if it still has guidance, does it factor IFF or it'll lock the most firm RCS target? I know what happens when guidance is lost or it is already gone active, just wondering about this now.
-
After pitbull it surely doesn't get any support from anything that your plane provides. I'm not sure how going active works though. But we definitely need an improvement on the problem above. It's totally BS.
-
Sit down for a while and think about how trackIR works. Based on where your head stands you should be able to more or less know what the plane is doing. Might need to glance at your HUD to see what's your speed though.

Multiplayer few years ago and now - from FC 1.12b to DCS
TAW_Blaze replied to Falcon_S's topic in Multiplayer
If it's more than 4v4 it just gets completely chaotic. Even a 2v2 is nigh impossible if you're not familiar with your wingman. That goes a long way. *WARNING* I'll use some heavy words, nothing to break the rules, don't take it personal. The only way to tell what's really going on is using the truth. We've been playing A2A quake pretty much ever since FC3 was out. For most of the guys the only objective is to get a +1 on the scoreboard. They'll do anything and everything to achieve that. For them, not even dying matters. Coordination between fighters is already tough. Most of the jocks don't have nearly enough knowledge or practice to be useful in a fast paced conversation during combat. Not to their discredit, I'm sure many of them simply don't have the time to learn it. That's all fine. Then you get those people that fire up the game with no actual idea about /anything/. Never read the manual, never even thought about reading it once. That is NOT fine at all. These are the guys that will ruin anything for you, even the stuff that you thought could never go wrong. Slam you on the runway, buddy spike you for years, teamkill people repeatedly, and the list goes on. One day I thought this game was somewhat mature, huh. Finally, you combine all of the above with the mud mowers. I'm sure all of them can do their job very well when it comes raining hell to the ground. However most of them simply doesn't know jack'all about dealing with any type of fighter threat. They'll scream for help when there's someone in the next 200 nm vicinity of them. Quite often they'll give you a false alarm because they're being looked at by friendlies, albeit this is not always their fault. Although A2G and A2A is usually on different TS channel so it's pretty hard to communicate already, and the different waypoints don't help this either. Nor the lack of proper systems in the fighters.. Most of the fighters can't even take care of themselves how exactly do you expect them to look after you? :D Yesterday we were doing CAP over Krasnodar with Highway for a few hours but honestly there isn't terribly too much we can do as a 2-ship on a server with more than 8 guys on the other end. We can hold it till we have gas, but that's all. It's not like any of those hogs pulled back when we were on the ground, even though they knew it well ahead of time. Definitely worth a try but, there's an entry level of knowledge and skill to be useful in a team. Most of the guys out there don't reach that. Again this is mostly not their fault. I remember when I used to be a lone wolf and tried to fly with a wingman we always ended up performing FAR worse. It could be. I don't know why, it could be fun if it's done well. Anyway enough moaning for today. I hope I didn't offend anyone, because I certainly didn't mean to. I'm glad we have so many people kicking around in the sim, but I'd be even happier if they took it just a little more serious. Especially on public servers. :) -

No. Large scale WVR fights require an insane level of coordination and discipline, if you don't have that you're betting on blind luck whether you survive or not. Not to mention the average DCS fighter jock is far worse in close range BFM than BVR. -

We're missing some tools to organize a bit more serious events with more guys, a few of these are: 1) Dynamic campaign. I'm sure you can do something similar with a very busy mission builder, but it's not even close. 2) This one is related to the one above. AI behaviour is idiotic in a lot of cases. Not necessarily talking about aircraft. This could be substituted by CA, but, well, that module is not known for helping stability. Which leads us to the next point: 3) Stability. Right now if you run more than 25-30 guys in a combat environment the server won't survive too long. In my opinion it's essential that we can take 50-60 guys on the same server for more than 3 hours to do something more interesting. There has been an amazing amount of improvement since 1.2.6, but we're still not quite there. I think if we get the 3 above just fine it'll gradually improve. There's a definite will of doing serious events in the community but it just doesn't quite work, yet. -
Thanks!

But higher PRF also causes more ambiguity. You'll have a lot more signals that return later than one PRT, all of them if the target is further than PRT/2. Since we just lowered PRT by using higher PRF, we should have a lower Rmax, shouldn't we? Or did I go wrong somewhere?
-
Excuse me for being a bit off topic, there's something that's been bugging my mind for a while now: What exactly HI and MED symbols mean in PRF selection? Now the reason I'm asking because, from the radar equation, the higher the PRF the lower the Rmax. While in fact in DCS HI provides the longer detection range of the two. A logical answer could be that they refer to detection ranges, but I'm doubtful. Anyone cares to enlighten me? Thanks!

You missed the point. I don't care about any game vs game arguments, they are childish. You're just trying to make a comparison but of the two things you're trying to compare one you don't have any clue about. I don't have to be the expert of /any/ game for this statement to be valid. It just goes with logic. I believe if you're dedicated enough you can be good at /anything/ regardless what it is. My own past has proven this pretty well to me. -

You can't make a comparison between two things when you don't know jack about one. I'm not being hostile, just pointing out your blatant ignorance. -

Wow, after all that you tell us to get off our high horse? Looks like you're the one riding that horse buddy. You have /no idea/ about air combat or even being a virtual fighter pilot yet you act like you do. -
There's no JHMCS or ASM on FC level. Whenver that happens we're talking about DCS:F15C. I wonder how you want to model AESA if they haven't even managed to model the old one yet. AIM-9X is due this year but all the other stuff, probably nowhere in the next 5 years.

Learjet 35 AFAIK. Poor crew :( -
Can anyone taxi on the grass/off-taxiway?

If he didn't wear the 104th tag it was just an impostor. :D -

TAW_Blaze replied to uboats's topic in F-15C for DCS World
To me it looks like there are seperate areas for concrete and terrain, so if just roll off the taxiway you'll behave as if you were on grass, but effectively you're still on the concrete basement. When you get to the border of the two, which is a bit further out, you get stuck, absolutely nothing you can do about it because the border is invisible. This is just my theory though, I'd have to see how the terrain is modeled to prove it - that said, everything I've seen related leads to what I believe. Better just keep off the grass at all cost. -
So here I am flying on a 19" :)

Can you program your "pitbull" range for the AIM-120?
TAW_Blaze replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Making an ARH not use it's own radar kinda defeats the purpose though. :D -

Without pitbull the AMRAAM probably won't even hit the side of a barn. -
They do have a real life SME that helps them. It's still WIP though.
