  1. That was done enough times already.. I came up with that there is a finished AMRAAM model but it won't be implemented until the other missiles are overhauled. They related to it and I explained to them that makes no sense. Yeah. Flight model is close, 3D model is close. Weapons systems? They pretend they are close, they aren't. It's a combat simulator after all isn't it? Surely it's the best representation in commercial market. That doesn't mean it's FULL REALISM. I don't act like it, there's no hope to fix guidance. There's hope for kinematics to be fixed. As long as ED continues with their current business strategy nothing good is going to happen to guidance. It's been more or less the same junk for a very long time anyway. The same shit goes for multiplayer. They haven't even managed to make a new lobby. Multiplayer only exists because some people from my squadron and a bunch of other enthusiasts push ED to do stuff. Otherwise DCS would be single player only.
  2. Good luck with your realism. If they implemented that AMRAAM model alone you would either have to fly the F-15 or the F-15. There wouldn't be any more options. The sad truth is that the more you know about DCS the more you understand how incredibly far it is from realism.
  3. The point is if you change the AMRAAM but you skip the others you're not making it more realistic, you're just creating bullshit. Or you want it to be too real. This is a friggin game and as much as I want it to it's not getting much closer to anything realistic. Even the so called FULL REALISM A-10C has next to nothing to do with the real airframe. But people tend to forget this in their clickable barbie house. Other than influencing radar operation and ECM (which does not exist in this game anyway) it doesn't do that much. Range is just a parameter to adjust you can do everything more or less the same it'll work just fine. You fire earlier or later, go defensive earlier or later, do X maneuver earlier later, it just doesn't matter. Remind me again how many kills were scored in actual combat beyond 15nm. Not a lot eh? BVR is anything beyond 5nm or less, ingame you won't see anything outside 3nm unless you're fully zoomed in and know exactly where to look. There's exactly 1 element of BVR missing and it's the goddamn ECM. We're never getting that though.
  4. I don't rule out the chance of being downscaled on purpose, but, every missile is suffering from basically the same problems. There is a "community project" ran by IASGATG and a few of his friends to rebuild the AMRAAM kinematically and as far as I can tell it's mostly finished. But putting that into the game would basically render every other plane that can't carry AMRAAMs downright useless. Your AMRAAM would have about twice the range of everything else that exists in the game. I doubt ED or anyone reasonable playing the game wants that. You know what the real thing can do? This is some funny statement isn't it? Amusingly enough, kinematic performance is the least classified. With the appropriate tools you can reverse engineer the whole thing and get an accurate model of it (just like IASGATG and his friends did). Can we just quit arguing R A N G E already? It's useless. It doesn't matter. The real problem with missiles is their god awful guidance and there's no one to fix it? Why?
  5. Especially when flying alone I'd just recommend keeping the radar on basically no matter what, especially in the Eagle. There are always a bunch of people flying over places you'd never expect. If you're in the main line of fight giving away your position is generally less important than knowing the enemy's position, and generally this is what more than 90% of the people do on the server. Take off, fly a straight line to the enemy base. "pilots" :D This a huge misconception of the whole thing. Just because you have a signal on your RWR that doesn't mean he can see you. The radar will only see you inside certain parameters, even if technically you're within the scan pattern or the current radar beam even. There's a lot more to it then how far you're from the guy.
  6. They aren't moot, they just don't matter. Old FC gravity used to have no effect on missiles and they had SFM aswell. Now they have AFM, they are a bit overly draggy so every missiles' range is shorter. In the end it's the same thing. What I can't put up with is when you're in a situation where the guy should die 10/10 and then suddenly somehow survives for absolutely no reason and on top of all that shit he even kills you.
  7. 1) Install tacview 2) Fly online 3) Review all ACMI after recording them on replays 4) CURSE THE HELL OUTTA EVERYTHING! < especially the guidance
  8. They don't, the laws of physics have changed and the missiles have never learnt how to properly guide. :) Forget about ranges, adapt, they are just a bunch of variables, you'll be comfortable with them in a week or two. Can't get comfortable with the nonsense guidance though. They are so bad and inconsistent you could never adapt to it.
  9. Not really, no. There's a rule of thumb between pilots that "rate kills". Now the best turnrate tends to be around high speeds and the lower you go the far worse your sustained turnrate gets. There are tricks to beat someone with higher turnrate but in case of a fair fight between equal opponents it simply won't work. I don't think I have to explain flaps are useless at high speed if not straight blocked out by the FCS, and slats are a marginal benefit when using excessive aoa. They are just a band aid to help the pilot in the worst case scenario.
  10. Actually corner is around M0.9-.95. No it wasn't built as an interceptor. It is an air superiority fighter. Interceptor class is something like the MiG-31 for instance. :megalol: no I'd love to invite some of these ppl who pretend the F-15 is an airbus to fight someone who both GG and I know. :D
  11. If the Eagle had leading edge slats and flaps usable for turning it'd do just as well if not better than the flanker at low speeds. Rightfully whoever designed the plane wasn't bothered with any of this because low speed dogfighting is an express ticket to getting killed.
  12. I'm not sure if that's the case with ARH.
  13. No. In DCS if you get HOJ locked you get STT warning. If he fires a SARH on you, you get no warning at all for the launch. If he fires an ARH, you get a missile warning when it goes active. Datalink Wingmen AWACS In that specific order, we don't really have any of them.
  14. Here's my 5 cents on what I would do: 1) Pirate it and learn how to use it, possibly create your stuff that you're going to market later. 2) Before you start selling your product buy it, this way it's more or less legal.
  15. HOJ is passive guidance, the radar will act as a receiver to the jammer's signals there's absolutely no need for you to emit anything. It's like IRST just with radio waves. In IRL I mean. In the game it doesn't seem to be true, otherwise why the hell would you get STT warning in HOJ mode. You still don't understand. There are means to locate and identify targets further than your little bird's radar can see. To be fair though this whole HOJ discussion is bullshit, the thing we have in game labeled as ECM has absolutely nothing to do with any form of real ECM application.
  16. The point isn't just being silent but it's a strong benefit. The other point is being able to kill targets that you can't directly identify or lock. You get STT warning when being HOJ locked I think that says everything you need to know about it. No. A good HOJ shot is a certain kill. But in DCS we have very little from the stuff that would make HOJ shots letal. I'll just name a few for fun: a) no real AWACS support b) no datalink c) broken missile guidance d) broken missile kinematics e) broken radar mechanics I'm sure I could name a few more but that's about enough.
  17. Aha. But what's the use of this? If the target has no clue he's shot at pure pursuit would be good enough to hit him wouldn't it? Instead we give him a warning so he can react? This doesn't seem very logical to me. Don't get me wrong pure pursuit is a terrible guidance method in case of a maneuvering target. But why do we need better guidance if the target is very likely to not maneuver? I guess if the ECM is strong enough then the missile will be able to see him from the start. But this is not how it works in game. As far as DCS goes, I tried this a few times and although I didn't document the results it very much felt like the AMRAAM would only guide HOJ if you kept lock on the jammer. I think it works like STT except that your radar isn't emitting. You're not scanning anything for sure.
  18. You just utterly butchered his name. :D No because of guidance missmodeling. From what I've seen you have to keep STT on his ECM until the AMRAAM is in active range, and then it goes active. You won't see anything other than the guy STT locking you until the point of pitbull. Then you get the warning etc. Now the fact that you have to keep STT on him up to a point where the missile's seeker could see him is a reasonable realization of the guidance. The bandit receiveing STT warning from a passive guidance is absolutely ludicrous. So is the ARH going active and letting off a separate missile warning in HOJ mode. I remember someone saying this albeit I forgot his name here, but I'll quote: "if you get HOJ killed you're a flying potato".
  19. There are 2 buttons to fire weapons. Trigger refers to the cannon. Weapon release is for everything else. You have to hold weapon release a bit longer to fire. I don't have the time to do this but in single player you can change settings on the fly. Should be good enough. That's up to what you like. Don't be afraid to do something just because it's difficult. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/250300/manuals/F-15C%20DCS%20Flaming%20Cliffs%20Flight%20Manual%20EN.pdf?t=1404412233 This is the manual. Read everything related to avionics.
  20. What looks good for you depends on your hardware setup. Screen and VGA most notably..
  21. Superiority doesn't come from flatturning better than a biplane at 150 knots.
  22. It's not eyesight issue really. The brightness is too messed up, if you put any color against a cloud or white monutains it's impossible to read. Adding customizable color would solve the problem.
  23. Basically the rule of thumb is this: 1) Lose your speed and you have to lose altitude to gain it back. 2) Lose your speed and altitude and you're dead. However, the rule of the current PFM seems to be: lose your speed and it'll never come back. Not before you finish the fight or seperate from it anyway. Keeping your speed is far more important than it used to be. No, that does not mean you have to turn at corner until you run out of gas. But you'd better have a very good reason to spend that speed.
  24. ETs are not as big of a threat IRL as they are in DCS. I doubt MAWS would detect a BVR ET launch anyway. I'm not sure how far it can see but it's mostly designed to fight low altitude IR sams. As far as SRMs go, you can argue detecting them by MAWS can be a thing but with that little SA you're probably dead at that point. It's not DCS where everything misses for no reason.. I meant more the F-15Cs, not the Es. Didn't mention it, my bad. Except that you're not getting past or near a flight of AESA with AWACS support without being noticed.
