  1. FWIW. Do a quick search, some vendors have the Aero with an additional 10% off of the recent price cut, (Black Friday).
  2. Awesome, another desert dweller! I'm quite happy with the Aero. It is a step up from the G2. (For my G2, I'm on my second power cable). With the recent price cut on the Aero, that kinda tipped my hand. Also, I did need some base stations, so I just went to Steam for those, (V2 version). They're cheaper than buying from Varjo, and work great. I ordered some lens inserts (via VR Optician). I have inserts in my G2, and they sure did help. I'll have the inserts for the Aero probably in about a week, so I'll post another update after I install them. Right now with DFR, really enjoying DCS and flying the Jug. In MSFS, been having a lot of fun in the F4F and Wilga. Really digging the Aero!
  3. Hi M8, I saw that Varjo-Foveated installed into c:\program files\OpenXR-Varjo-Foveated I then created a JSGME mod/package from that sub-dir. I then install or remove that package when I want to use DCS. I also have DCS permanently disabled from the Toolkit, (and leaving only IL2 and MSFS as active). So when I want to fly DCS, I install the Varjo-Foveated package and remove the InstanceExtensionsWrapper. No need to worry about the Toolkit, since DCS is removed from it. I only went this path, because I haven't gotten clarity as of yet regarding my question in this post: Is the correct method is to leave the Varjo-Foveated installed, remove the InstanceExtensionWrapper, (and just remove DCS from the Toolkit)? MSFS and IL-2 will work fine with the Toolkit, while the DCS Varjo-Foveated is installed? I was worried that Varjo-Foveated was incompatible with the non DCS sims. With my JSGME method, I'm very happy with the performance of all 3 sims. I fly SP, 39ppd, locked at 45FPS in VB.
  4. I ended up doing this: Via JSGME, created mod packages for Varjo-Foveated & OpenXR-InstanceExtensionsWrapper. So when I want to fly with DCS, I enable Varjo-Foveated, (and with the Toolkit disabled). With MSFS and IL-2, I disable Varjo-Foveated, and enable OpenXR-InstanceExtensionsWrapper and the Toolkit. Tested it out with all 3 sims, and the use cases are working great. Gotta have that Varjo-Foveated for DCS! But this is a good compromise for the other sims I like to fly. I'm happy with the Aero, and once I have my VR Optician inserts, I know that's going to help a lot. Going to do the hand me down of the Reverb G2 to my secondary rig, (9700K and the 3090FE). Was using the Oculus Rift S on that. I have the secondary rig for the Grandkids....
  5. sorry for not being clear. I am using Varjo Foveated. I fly DCS, MSFS, and IL-2, and have been using the Toolkit with all three, prior to getting the Aero. As of now, I've been flying DCS (with Varjo Foveated), and have disabled the Toolkit (for DCS), as per the instructions (and left the Toolkit enabled for MSFS and IL-2). From your comment, if I wish to continue to use the Toolkit with MSFS and IL-2, I'll need to remove Varjo Foveated, and go with Quad-views Foveated? I did try the glasses in the Aero. Man is that a pain in the @$$ to get to try. But it did help with the clarity.
  6. My Wife has said this a time or two, about my VR sim addiction...
  7. thank you for posting, I was considering this path, but will stick with Varjo Foveated as well.
  8. A quick update. Installed the Aero, and have the 2x base stations. (Went with the shower rod and camera clamp setup, works like a champ!). I also have a separate power strip to manage the HMD and base stations, to ensure they all are powered off when not in use. Installed the mbucchia foveated mod, and in VB have set the ppd to 39. Fired up DCS via the bin-mt. Looking real good. Though things look a little blurry, but I'm sure that's due to my eyes. My "old" G2 had the VR Optician inserts. My prescription is over 3 years old. So I've planned a visit to my Optician on Monday morning. You know what I'll be ordering on Monday after I have the new prescription. Last time I ordered from VR Optician, it took 7 days for delivery, which is pretty quick from Germany to the desert Southwest of the US. Once I have the inserts, I'm certain it'll give me the full pop. Back to the Aero. I've been running at 45fps locked (vsync), and no MR. Things are solid, and no stutters. Will try a few tweaks here and there, just reading and learning. Just curious, it's ok to have the mbucchia mod in place. The other WWII and Civ mod should be fine with the OpenXR toolkit?. I can leave the toolkit installed, but I have it disabled for DCS, so that is doesn't conflict https://github.com/mbucchia/Varjo-Foveated/wiki
  9. Indeed, a few times I was snowed in. (Using real weather, I was flying in December). Flying out of KIWA, heading East. Hit some bad weather coming into Buffalo. Managed to stay behind a big front as I went from Northeast Canada to Greenland, Iceland, and Scotland. I caught a nasty storm in central Europe, trying to come into Prague. Fortunately had enough fuel to find another Airport in Poland. I shifted a bit South, to get some warmer weather. I remember later swinging up to catch the Alaskan Islands and I was snowed in yet again. Quite the flight, and the F6F with it's drop tank, I managed all of the key ferry points for the long water crossings, no issues
  10. anything from FI, I'm buying. Love their P-38, F6F, and 109. In the Civ Sim, I flew the Hellcat around the world, what an epic journey.
  11. Just received my Aero. Placed the order on Oct 29th, it shipped on Nov 6th, and delivered today on Nov 13th. I didn't receive any pings about a customs form. Looking forward to the Thanksgiving week for tweaking and getting things ironed out!
  12. thanks M8. I ordered something similar to those. (Had to get a rod that goes beyond 110", I have a high ceiling in my game room). Should have it all tomorrow.
  13. great write up OP! I get my Aero on Monday, woot! (it's already at the Phoenix FedEx center). Can't wait to try it out. I also purchased 2x base stations via Steam. Curious about this shower rod setup thingy (for the base stations). will dig a little more.
  14. thank you for the update, appreciate the field report. I do have a 3d printer, I may go this route.
  15. cool, my Aero is now at the FedEx facility in China. Looks like I have a chance to get it before Turkey day.
  16. That conquest VR headphone looks pretty interesting. I might get a set. Thanks mmike87 for the post.
  17. thank you MAThrasher and Rodeo, appreciate the data points!
  18. thanks. If I manage to get it before Thanksgiving, I'll be happy.
  19. I did the same, I bought direct from Varjo. I've received a notification that my payment was accepted, and it should ship within 5 business days, (that was a couple days ago). I'm in the US
  20. I use it in DCS, MSFS, and IL-2. working fine (with my G2). Just awaiting my Aero to ship at this point.
  21. just awaiting the shipment confirmation for my new Aero. hopefully have it before the Thanksgiving break. (been reading through this thread, quite a transformation as time marched on. glad to see all of the progress). I was also probably going to pull the trigger on a new Index base station via Steam. Just run with one, if I have any issues, then I'll buy a second via eBay.
  22. thanks for the tip, I'll check out the Index. (yep, I'm in the Desert Southwest)
  23. I just ordered the Aero. Now I'll scan eBay for a used base station. I presume a gen 1 or 2, doesn't matter?
