Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
Solty replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
No, I mean. Is this DLC going to affect it in a way, that those without the DLC won't be able to join servers with the DLC map on? Because it sounds not like typical reskin but as another version of a map that will not be compatible with the current map. In other words. Will I be able to join a server that has the "New Map" while I do not own the "DLC"? -
Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway

So, will this "DLC" be compatible with the already working Caucasus? Or will this create another separation between the community? -
Well yes and no. Yes, because you can certainly use altitude and positioning advantage to get a kill. No, because in a fight where the 190D9 is aware of your presence, all the pilot has to do is keep his speed and extend. And if the Dora starts a dive... good luck catching her in a Spit. Spitfire will no doubt have at least one advantage and that is turn performance at lower speeds. But if the Dora wants, she can stay safe and never get hit just by flying fast. Some airplanes rely on their speed more than the other. Fw190D9 vs Spitfire in a typical dogfight of turning and twisting the Spitfire will eat the Dora alive. But because Dora is faster and do not have to turn with the Spit, she can dictate how the fight will play out.

Prop governor is too easy to broke, I think.
Solty replied to gomwolf's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yep, especially when we will see the P-47D which would be immediate oposition to what we have in DCS due to its air cooled engine. It would make the Jug feel strong and create interesting situations from which any liquid cooled airplane would have no way of getting back. All liquid cooled airplane players should know that the bullet into the radiator means that the grim reaper is around the corner. :D Not to mention those big white clouds of coolant coming out of those radiators on the Bf109K4 would make my day any day :D -

Not only the visual part. Liquids and incendiary effects also need to be redone realy. -
MkIXc had 240 20mm Hispano rounds. 120 per gun.

Common problem of aircraft rolling left
Solty replied to zackjollyroger's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang

Yeah but the lack of the tail fin makes the plane unstable which leads to bleeding of energy during high speed chases, that would make the P51D5 a slower airplane than the D30. We are slow as it is. It would also take away the K14 sight, which would aggregate the DM issue. Not to mention that the P51D blocks were actually upgrades which makes it nearly impossible that any rare units were left with D5 in November 1944. And we have to remember that 8th AAF is the most important player on the Western European scene. That is why I propose the D20 or D25 block. It would be the most representative enemy for the 109K4 and 190D9. And it would also mean way less work for ED as these are similar to D30 Normandy should not be the main reason for the P51D model. Because if it was, we still would not have a single German fighter to fight against. There was 0 Bf109K4 and 0 Fw190D9 over Normandy.
-
Well they were beeing introduced to units since March 1944, and were supposedly in quantity when D-Day started. http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/variants/p51d I just do not think that P-51D5 is capable oponent for the K4. Hence why I would like to see P-51D20. Kurfurst does it even matter to you? I mean seriously we are not getting G6, so why focusing on that. You have the most advanced mass produced Bf109. What do you want more?
-
@Racoon But if we get the new stang model. Will it replace the current one? Or will it just be a new option in the editor? Just please don't make a too early mustang. We have already suffered enough. Especially that we already have oponents that shouldnt even fly over Normandy, as they were not in production back then (K4&D9). I just want to say that IMO it would be great if you focused on the best possible opponent to the current German airplanes, because June 1944 Mustangs would fight Bf109G6 and Fw190A8. :smilewink:

I propose P-51D20 with 72'hg and G-Suit :3.:smilewink:

YAAY ;D I though something was wrong with my DCS xD That's why I asked. Thx :3

Most I saw was 12... I was thinking about something like 16vs16 :pilotfly:It is not the fault of ACG, I was just saying that it just needs a bit more people. (DCS as a whole actually) Anyway. Is the server down?
-
I have to commend you for the new mission IronJockel. The mission is great. It has clear targets, zones/areas and it also has bases close enough to make the game interesting. The only thing needed now is people. Although, I have to ask. Is the server down now? I can't see it on the server list... :/

Yes Stuka, it is achievable, no doubt. But it is also is quite frustriating, and it realy requires lots of patience and internal peace and understanding for the fact that each time you have to choose between victory or staying alive. Nearly all gun runs are inefective due to DM that was already talked about. After some serious pondering I came to a following conclusion. The main reasons for P-51's inadequacy in combat currently are as follow: 1. DM. 2. Max speed and low engine setting. 3. Lack of proper team tactics. I have also came up with solutions for each of those issues. 1. ED could buff .50cal damage for the time beeing, untill we get a better Damage Model down the road, when trully realistic damage modeling is available and weapons will do true physical damage. 2. 72'hg :3 3. We need to educate the P-51 players that they should give up maneuvering fights against the 109 unless they are realy forced to. I would have to do start from myself though :P These are the most rewarding kills. This standard basic tactic would be to side climb to at least 3000m and keep your speed and B&Z only. If the whole team is high, the enemy will also have to go high. But as long as people will hug the ground we will not see any real improvment :/

the P-51's stick is calibrated so that a real life replica of a P-51 stick translates 1:1 in movment. The P-51 stick is nearly twice longer than the 109's stick, it is obvious you cannot do that in the 109. So if you do not change the axis you are going into a fight with very over sensitive short stick that doesn't allow for flexibility. It has downsides though, at very low speeds nearing stall you cannot move the elevator so much so that it will allow to ride the stall. It also doesn't allow for max deflection at slow speeds, which is not bad for me, as current joystick that I have has realy bad rudder twist, but I can imagine that with a longer stick and rudder pedals one would be able to keep better turns. Doesn't matter though. Because the 109 is superior in turning. If you can't turn well in it you are not realy trying I am afraid. Yesterday, I was able to hold with one guy without a problem, his turns were not even close to my max deflection. But another guy was able to outturn me within 2x 360's and I was unable to get away from him. ------ 72'hg and 75'hg is not for dogfighting purposes, you lack the ablity to understand that there is more to a fight than just turning. P-51 was never made for turnfights, otherwise nobody would give it a laminar profile wing. It is calibrated for speed, even more, it is defined by speed. The airplane utilises it's max speed that is far superior to what Germans had during that time, except for Me262 and other jet prototypes that were pushed as the Wunderwaffe as the last ditch resort to stop allied bombings. The sad thing is that P-51D even though underpowered will still be the best allies can use against the K4, D9 and 262. P47 can only be realy better at 8000m or more and frankly I think Spitfire even if it had 25lbs wouldn't change much.
-
It is a Hungarian airplane, it shouldn't be there at all.
-
I wonder why it is infamous though. People have a wierd way of dividing stuff on worthy or not worthy of attention. It seems as some people are "too cool" to use something :P
-
Spitfire is not an air superiority fighter (ASF), that would be closer to P38, P47 and P51 which can actually win superiority over enemy territory because they can stay long enough in the air. Spitfire is a pure and typical European interceptor. Short range, low fuel, great ROC.

Please learn reading comprehension otto. Your conclusions do not match with reality. I said the airplane is just as important as the pilot, not that the airplane is more important than the pilot. Combination of both is lethal. Francis Gabreski is the finest example. He was a good pilot, but he was terrible at Spitfire. He couldn't hit his enemies and maneuver with them. And Spitfire is a regarded and awesome dogfighter. But when he got into the P-47 he started to become quickly more profficient and was the highest scoring ace in the West European theatre. Does that mean that Spitfire is worse than P47? No. Does that mean that Gabreski was a bad pilot? No. But it only shows that the airplane is very important for the pilot. The famous quote from Galland, when he was asked what do they need to help against the British, he said he wanted Spitfires. He didn't say 'we need more training' or 'we need nothing'. First what he requested was a new airplane. And it doesnt matter if it was Spitfire or anything else, the airplane for the pilot makes the difference.
-
1. It has an early 1944 setting. 2. That is one of the worst points to ever make that "it is the pilot not the plane that counts". When you listen to real WW2 pilots they always talk about how their airplane made them better or their airplane was not enough to be able to combat the enemy. Airplane is just as important as the pilot that uses it.
-
So it is 18lbs boost... Well, prepare your self Spitfire pilots. You are up for a ride.

Sithspawn said it is going to be adressed some time in the future. But we don't know the time at which it will change. I think devs never saw any problem with that because the main theater of DCS is modern combat. And a missle basically makes your aircraft basic modules inoperable, and burst from HEI from 20mm and 30mm cannons does pretty much the same. Problem begins with .50cal API ammunition which is suppose to penetrate the target and cause internal damage and fire's. It doesn't have the destructive power of a HE shell, and was not made to destroy whole fragments of the airplane, but rather disable it from the fight by massive burst mass. Parts like the control surfaces when damaged only change the visual model, but their behaviour is the same as it was before getting hit, it just makes their Health Points (HP) go down, and only when it hits 0 it gets destryoed and doesn't operate normally. The other thing is that there are no leaks. 109 has two big radiators under it's wings. If punctured that means nearly immediate RTB, because the coolant will leak and the more holes the quicker it will leak. In DCS you can hit it all you want, only if the whole wing flies off the 109 can go down, or the HP of the feuselage goes down to 0 and the plane starts to burn. But those fire's are not due to Incidieary properties but rather due to 0HP state of the module. It is the design "feature" that is absolutely ok for modern jets, as they do not need to be that detailed because they are hit by big HE projectiles. That is certainly possible but the 109K4 is not a "normal" 109. P-51D with 67hg vs Bf109G6 will do what you said without much problem, but the K4 is realy another step in the development and that step was also taken by the USAAF by allowing higher oct fuels and higher boost ratings. But we do not have that, so believe me that difference will be there for a while :(. I agree tough that those tactics were used and many pilots were successful in dogfighting against the 109's. Primary example beeing the Bud Anderson's fight against a 109G in his P-51B.

It is not about stall fighting. What people do not understand is that knife fighting or turn fighting is not the only answer. B&Z Thats how Mustangs do. Go in, shoot extend climb up, turn around, dive on him, shoot and extend and repeat. If the Damage Model was right the .50cal HMG's would be way more powerful at killing the 109, but because in DCS we have to realy keep our guns on target for so long to make the weapon realy useful.
