Typo.:pilotfly: :smartass: Not to mention that in 1944 only over 500 K4's were built and some sources say that most of them went to the eastern front, compared to multiple G6 and G14 subersions which reached units at the Western front.

I have to say, I have never lost both of my wings in combat in the P-51D, so I can't say if it is present there. I have to say though, that my eyes flew out of sockets when I saw it :P. I hope it is just that DM is not providing the proper feedback to the FM which creates this wierd behaviour. Because if it is something inherently bad with FM's and physics engine, that might be problematic to track and fix.
-
Exactly! PS. P-38L too.

I was watching random DCS videos today and I saw one in which the 109 had both wings destroyed and yet flew back home for around 5min and crashlanded it on the field... Maybe someone who actually has it can do some testing? Seems like either the DM or 109 wings give too much lift...? I am nearly certain that this behaviour should not be there. I use the K14 with both fixed and gyro modes. The fixed is only a little cross in the middle so I know my reference point, while my gyro is set for 1100ft and Fw190 wing span.

P-51's should be already airborne to simulate that they are flying with the bombers for a while and escorting them. US players should focus on creating defensive formation around the bombers and sending vanguard of airplanes to intercept the Germans before they can form up. Like it was IRL

"As you sow, so shall you reap" Exactly!

Again, that is only when you have Rookie vs Expert. That happens very rarely within combat flight sim communities. Yes I agree, tactical advantage is very important, but even if the Spitfire is above the K4 right? He dives on the 109, and if the 109 notices that, he can dive away and Spitfire cannot hold with it in a prolonged fight. Moreover, you say many vs many. That is exactly where faster airplanes have the advantage. The Spitfires will be unable to catch 109's in their vertical maneuvers, which will create a defensive situation for Spitfires. I am not saying it is not interesting, I am a P-51D guy, so I couldn't care less for what Spit pilots will have to do. But I am just saying that Spit IXc with 18lbs is going to be at a severe disadvantage, but at least it has its own advantage.
-
If that is not personal, then I do not know what standards you have.
-
So all you do is base your argument on belief and an idiom? I suggest you read more. And I never said it is impossible to win. But it depends very much on skill level gap and luck. There is nothing classified about the IXe. Also, IXe was simulated before in other productions. If you think DCS is doing something new and never explored, then I suggest to play some more sims since 1990's. Also, I see you acuse us of beeing bad at combat flying in DCS. I see someone who has so little experience, he is unable to correctly asses the situation and with ego that goes through the roof. Will the Spitfire IXc be hopless? No, of course not. Will it have a distinct advantage? Yes, turn. Just be prepared, that if a 109K4 or 190D9 will not agree to fight you on your terms, you are pretty much only able to evade their attacks and keep on beeing defensive.

If I fly MP, I fly at ACG:thumbup:. Most of the time it is with Germans that have numerical advantage. But, sometimes it is equal and only once have I flown, there were substantially more P-51D's than Germans. I am not saying it doesn't happen, but it doesn't happen a lot. I assure you, it won't be boring because mostly one attack was enough to shoot down an enemy plane and that makes people check six more, and those that fail to do it will pay dearly. Most pilots shot down didn't even see their enemy prior to getting hit. With the 6x.50cals and 20, 30mm cannons it will be a quick resolve. The only airplane that will be more resilient to attacks will be the P-47, as its structure is very rugged and that big turbocharger gives it armour from the back and the radial engine from the front :P Also it will be possible to fight 1v4 and win, while with current DM it will most likely take too much shots to damage your enemies properly.:pilotfly:

Firstly, the MkIXe would have almost 0 difference in performance. Same airplane with the same engine, just instead of 4x.303s it would have 2x .50cals and few little changes here and there. But if I understand Krupi correctely, it would just fit the 1944 period much better. Secondly, Jeager shot down his first Me262 when it was very low and slow coming for a landing. It is not a good example. Much better would be tales of Il2 pilots shooting down 109F's or Polish P.11 Pilots shooting down 109E's in 1939. It is never the pilot alone that matters. The airplane is just as important. Only big difference happens when the pilot skill level gap so big that it is between a rookie vs an ace. But with simillar skill levels it so happens that the airplane matters. A lot. That is why engineers try to build highest performing and easiest to fly airplanes, and some airplanes such as LaGG-3 get nicknamed " лакированный гарантированный гроб - guaranteed varnished coffin" While other are known as the "one of the best fighter aircraft of WW2". You can be a great pilot, but if you are flying a Hurricane Mk1 against jets at 27 000ft, you are not going to be more than a burning wreck, soon enough. If your aproach would be true, nobody would leave the biplane fighters for new and innovative designes.

Don't forgett about the Typhoon, Tempest and P38 :P Realy though, I agree. DCS depicts perfect Luftwaffe which was never possible in 1944. The matchup in itself favours the Germans, but the bigger issue is the human psychology that comes with it. People want to be on the wining side, so they buy only the German planes, which creates situations that there are few Allies and lots of Axis. We will see, I hope the Spitfire will bring some interest into the allied side and we will start to see more equal (in numbers) fights.

Thanks LN. I just hoped there will be some info on the F4U-1D :(
-
If I was to request something from LN, I would ask for a worthy oponent for the F4U-1D. N1K or A6M5 would be great.
-
A little short video, that I felt was kinda fun due to lots of rolling and scissoring attempts on the Fw190 part. Looked nice, I felt, hey why not. Right?:noexpression: Danse Macabre [ame] [/ame]

In il2 you had 100+ planes. People in DCS know that if you get a model, it is going to be the only one. So if you get a really underpowered plane for the matchup, it will be frustrating every time. Unless it is historically justified (109F vs i16, A6M5 vs F4U1D etc) it is going to feel unfair. There is more to the Spitfire than just raw speed. It will outturn every plane from our matchup in seconds. But I think that Spit IXe would fit a bit more.
-
I don't see any difference between taking a new plane and repairing. You are on the field, so you proved you survived. As long as you are on the field, you should get no deaths if you leave your plane. What if someone flies a Mustang gets hit but limps back and wants to change to a spitfire? He has to loose to do so? To me, every landing on your field that you survive, should be no consequence to your score. Every landing on a field in a middle of nowhere is a death.
-
It shouldn't be the early D5 because of K4 and D9. Why should the Mustang be tied to the Normandy while German airplanes do not have to?
-
You know, all these examples reminded me of one shot down by 352nd pilot Sanford Moats. Who has hit both wing roots of a Fw190A which made the wings fold above the 190's cockpit, like in some carrier aircraft, and the pilot fell to his death. I hope some day DM like that will be possible :P
-
Both of you came out of a dive, am I correct? If that P-51D flew in very well coordinated flight he should be able to keep his energy better than you. I have not seen any improvment for the P-51 yet. If it could fly faster it would need higher power settings, because 604kph is the best the P-51D ever had at that SL, in any known to me tests with the current power setting.
-
Yeah, maybe it is work only for few people that already finished their work on the Thunderbolt? Also, seems ED wants to standarise that new Damage Model for the four airplanes we already have, which is a good time to also develop a new visual model for the P-51D and then progress towards the Thunderbolt. :book:
-
As I understand it, ED is trying to bring the current module of DCS: P-51D model to the Europe 44-45 standard to be in line with other airplanes that we have or will have in DCS World Europe 44 because the P-51D was created before Europe 1944 was concieved and now ED feels it needs an update.

I think it is for Belsimtek to answer. But: So there is always hope :3
