Tenacity I claim 3 109's destroyed (2 shot down and one via maneuver kill). ACG server footage.

Something I have scratching my head on

I wanted to write a comment, but I would have written what you wrote. +1 -
Is there a list of active servers that host DCS WWII stuff
Solty replied to Pandacat's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Check out ACG. -
If I was to choose I would make it as every other DCS model for sake of standardisation. Also, I am fairly certain that in DCS p51 flaps dropped mean it is harder to pull full deflection, especially noticeable when curves are applied. I would rather go for feeling the change than nothing at all.

Do you want a tank module for DCS Normandy
Solty replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
As much as I love tanks and can talk about different types all night, I would rather see more aircraft models added. B25 is far more important than M4A3 (W)76 -
In old il2 when you shot someone down, u would get 10pts and when you came back and landes that gave u 100pts total. Maybe a points system similar to that could work out?

Super squirrely at 30k feet...what I did wrong?
Solty replied to Zilch's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
That is precisely why I use curves on my joystick. When you are higher up density of air is lower and u need better lift to stay in the fight. You will stall at higher IAS. AI may be broken but I have fought human 109s there. If u believed some on this forum in Mustang's high alt superiority, that is not going to happen. They are pretty equal there. High up you have to do large maneuvers, keeping up speed, watch your AoA and be gentile. You might have an edge in turn, but it is exploitable only with very good rudder coordination. It doesn't become a difference between day and night there. I have to investigate the speed at that alittude though, it realy does seem sluggish. -
I have to ask about a mirror in the Dora ?
Solty replied to ctguy1955's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Gunther Rall said that they had a mirror on early Bf109E models, but they quickly decided it is usless. Because as he said "it was already too late if you saw someone in the mirror". I guess it is a preference. Why having a piece of equipment that obstructs your forward and upward visbility in already crowded 109 cockpit? -
Exactly what Echo said and additionally, you have to remember that you are not shooting one Ma Duce M2 HB HMG with 500rpm. You are shooting 6x AN/M2 800rpm each, that equals roughly 4800rpm. Nine shells out of ten are API and one is APIT.
-
Being overly sceptical without any founded reasons doesn't bring us anywhere. Just read about the effects of incendiary ammo and everything will be clear. I don't understand people that question history. API is highly effective against aircraft because fumes of aero fuells are highly flammable. And it is not as if only one bullet hits the target at any given time. I also recommend watching WW2 USAAF gun camera footage. Also realism reasons. What we want is good representation of WW2 air combat, not what we currently have.

I've heard about it, and it is possible. Afterall they were flying way higher than normal where it is even colder and power drops drastically, so it might be possible they were pushing it more to stay with B29s more easily after chasing away the IJA and IJN planes.

No, all P-51s were made in the USA with Packard engines. There was no British production. Tell me is the engine that can fly 8h mission without stoping using max continous, military and on some ocasions WEP, come back home, a badly made engine? If what you are saying was true, P-51B/C/D would not be greenlit as the main escort fighter and replace the P-47 Thunderbolt, which was a very good escort fighter with far more reliable engine than any Merlin. My theory is that 81'hg was used by the British because they were not flying as escort for long range missions that often as the USAAF, I would see the reason there. And USAAF wanted to preserve their engine life more, so they were not pushing it to the limit. Very similar thing happened to the Alison engines that were proven to be able to be pushed far beyond their limits, just the limit itself was imposed to be 100% sure nothing will break.

That is the worst possible thing for me. You wouldn't like to put F86 vs Su27 would you? During the war that development of airplanes was sped up so much it makes for a valid comparison. If you pit Bf109K4 vs I153 that would be a disaster. Not only because it is unbalanced, but also because it is not even close to reality of the eastern front. The map doesn't fit as well due to modern buildings and cars. For current airplane set it would be good if Russians have been given: La7 1944 airplane Yak 3 1944 airplane Yak 9U 1944 airplane And current map could be just reproduced within WW2 setting. Then it would be ok with me.

It is rare to fight at higher altitudes in DCS. This time I was lucky someone was actually flying there. High Altitude [ame] [/ame] GF o7 to the oponent.
-
Huh? If you start on a cold day and push the throttle up with the oil pressure high the Merlin will die on you quickly. Also it might be the main cause of the 'no reason' engine stops, as the abused engine on the ground is acting up in the air. But yeah. The OP already understood his issue comes from misidentification.
-
+1 OP. I would love to fly with my own custom skin and shoot at custom enemy airplanes. Especially in context of WW2
-
I16 doesn't quite fit. Some day after the standard 6 planes, P38, bomber B25/24/17, Typhoon/ Tempest, Fw190A8, I would be ok with some Soviet airplanes.

Decreasing Y saturation to lower values than 100
Solty replied to otto's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Nope the 109 is quite perfect realy. I had it from my friend when that stifness was introduced. It realy is as it should. -
What is the AI skill level of the P51 dogfight mission?
Solty replied to Cavemanhead's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Just know your servers. ACG the best dogfighting server. DoW Burning Skies Those are three server that you should keep an eye on. -
I find fiddling with radiators realy time consuming and easy to forget that it is closed/open. I am bad at that, thefore prefer it automatic. But I also think that opening radiators even more than automatic means too much drag and not realy gives you any benefit from using WEP. Sure no problem. The more aware P-51 community the better. I've learned that fact from t4ouble, when we flew together once and tried to push it farher. I am able to more reliably leave the enemy behind. Cya on the MP.:pilotfly:

I am using my airplane to its maximum potential, or rather trying to. Also I am not afraid so say that I loose quite a lot. It is the part of the game. Nobody should feel ashamed that they lost. Also, you play with your rules on your server and your mission. How is that something to be "proud" off? And sure we can duel. I would love to. Maybe I can learn some more. :3

I noticed that it cools down the engine better. But use it only around under 3000m or less. Otherwise you will get lower power output as with increased altitude you need more air in the mixture and the engine starts to choke on itself. But overheating also is non existant at that altitude with mixture to RUN if you keep your speed up. That is from my own experience.
-
Or you loose more than you admit to yourself ;3 Realy though, I you will see an increase in survivability in the Mustang if you go WEP. With WEP you are faster than the 109 even at SL with around 5 kph or more if the 109 pilot is bad with rudder coordination. With 61'hg you are slower. So you can't go home :) You have to fight for sure. That means you are on his terms.
-
I use WEP nearly always during combat, and last time I've lost my engine was maybe a month ago. If you keep your speed high and at low altitude use emergency rich mixture, you can run 67'hg without much problem for a long time. Without WEP. With bad enemy target's it is easy to wing without WEP, but when a guy knows more than how to fly straight WEP is mandatory. Also, there is a reason why 44-1 150oct fuel was used for 72' and 75' boost. You cannot run the engine with 100/130oct fuel and go that high on boost, 67' is max.
