On-line/MP Play: How to tell Friend from Foe at Distance
Solty replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Imposters are not strange. They are part of every 3d game. Even Wolfenstein 3d used them. They help objects stay visible instead of flickering out of existence and help keep higher framerates due to unimportant objects not being in full detail. But yes in DCS they need work. -
On-line/MP Play: How to tell Friend from Foe at Distance
Solty replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
P51s have red tracers. Germans use Green tracers. Learn the look of an airframe. Focus on engine cowling, shape of the wing, canopy and tail section. -
I would say yes, but after aircraft damage models. For now planes need more love.

Bf109 K-4 pre-stall buffeting...
Solty replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Or you pull too much compared to a real pilot, therefore causing more vivid response. -
Just one thing... The109 speedometer scale ends at 750kph... And one of those pilots said it ends at 900kph. Was there a 109 series that had different speedometer type? Or is it custom Finish one? Or just a memory of an old man playing tricks on him?

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
Solty replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yes indeed and there is even more about the flame problem that it was even a fire hazard after switched to J2 fuel: "The engines were started using Reidel starter unit. The turbines were run up to 1800rpm and C3 fuel was used to light up the Jumo. The throttle was advanced very very slowly untill at 3000rpm, you could switch to J2 fuel. Again one had to advance the throttles very slowly to 6000rpm and as one increased to 8000rpm the throttles could be used a little faster. Both Nowotny and Gunther Wegman suffered turbine fires because they advanced the throttles too rapidly." -

I don't know much about the subject, but this book seems to have a different opinion? https://books.google.pl/books?id=RAbFQiX1F9AC&pg=PA9&lpg=PA9&dq=me262+engine+fire&source=bl&ots=kXiCYRm9UG&sig=bBWgQ0Hp7uEAZSsRvBmzTClnCms&hl=pl&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjFreKUy7XKAhVkwHIKHVS7BaIQ6AEITTAF#v=onepage&q=me262%20engine%20fire&f=false Page 11: "We had to be very careful with the throttles and advance them very, very slowly, or there was a risk of fire" And there seem to be more flame-ups with some of the 262's. I don't know, maybe it was a different engine... but just wanted to point that out :P -
I didn't. I have used the YouTube's editor to make it look more lively.

P-51D b&z. It was mainly possible due to the white smoke the 109 was trailing. Anyway, simple energy managment and test of will :P [ame] [/ame]

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
Solty replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I've heard that there was also a problem with too rapid throttle advancment could result in engine failure and fire. I wonder how big of an issue that really was. Me 262 has a potential to be very interesting. -
Shift+R makes the mission restart, but it bugs out sometimes... your call :P

People who have flown the 1O9 and the P51
Solty replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Well, no. It is written, the Buchon wants to go down at higher speeds, Bf109 wants to go nose up. What is not obvious? Responding to PS: I have never stated as such, although I can tell you that you are more stable if you don't have a plane pulling with you. 109 is very much pulling with you, therefore needs more attention not to overpull which could cause a stall. Again, you are not looking at it from the pilot's perspective. For example. If you take a modern P-51D with no fuel tank, you will get a plane that has stiff controls(at higher speeds), while a P-51D from the WW2 has CoG pushed to the back which makes it less stable during turns at lower speeds, but also loosens the force the pilot has to put into a stick-pull, which leads to a tighter turn at high speed, but also to a worse controllability at low speeds. Advantage and disadvantage. It is the best when you can retain full elevator deflection ability but without the stick beeing too sensitive. -

Solty replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
This is quite insulting, are you realy claiming that an ace who flew Bf109 serries through 621 combat missions and had 275 kills that he doesn't know his airplane? Why people have no respect to the 3rd highest scoring ace of WW2? How is Skip Holm who flew it from time to time and talks about "nuclear mike-mikes" more qualified to say how to fly the 109? Skip Holm never actually flew a 109! He flew the Bushon, with the Merlin engine! Rall flew real 109's during real combat, pushing them to the limit. -

Solty replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
So, from the doc you have attached, Mark Hannah said: "Above 550kph the peculiarity is slight nose down trim change as you accelerate. This means(...)above 500kph, the plane has a slight tucking sensation, a sort of desire to get to the ground level." And here we have the G2 forces that the pilot has to use on the stick, which clearly shows that the pilot has to push on the stick as the speed rises to maintain level flight: Again, Bushon wants to go down. Bf109G2 wants to go up. -
Its just for the current known ED made ww2 planes.

People who have flown the 1O9 and the P51
Solty replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
There were many differences though. Mainly the engine and engine cowling and prop and cannons were mounted inside wings. That made the bushon nose heavy while normal 109 was nose light. Read Mark Hanna report on flying the bushon. -

Solty replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
@OP It's the same person. And the "109" they call it "G" but it is realy a Buchon Spanish version with a Merlin engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispano_Aviaci%C3%B3n_HA-1112 ---------------------- Here is an interview with Gunther Rall 275 kills Luftwaffe Ace He flew Bf109s from E to late G and additionally flew Fw190, Me262, P51, P38, Spitfire and P47 during his time as a flight instructor. [ame] [/ame] and here he speaks about the 109 a little bit more: https://youtu.be/Ry9sOqkSrvQ?t=16m30s -
Hello. I was at your server yesterday. I have noticed that you are not using any model enlargement. I was a witness of the server going empty while there were around 12 people when I joined. It seemed that most people had problems to find each other and switched to ACG. I would recommend large models. I was myself looking for a target for around 30min and only foundhim by knowing that destroyed a ground unit. B&Z with current LOD is impoossible. Mission itself was OK. Just spotting hurt :(

Yes, or use a TrackIR which I sadly need to repair :/

Possibility of other 109 Models as an addon?
Solty replied to IronJockel's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Well for 1944 Fw190 A8 and A7 + Bf109G6 with all its modifications and G14 would be main. But I would love to see 1942-1943 stuff too :D For all. -
I agree with Diehard although I have noticed a bug. When I am following a plane, at certain angles it just disaperas. Even against the sky. I am 500m behind and he is in the middle of my screen and poof, vanished! After few seconds he appears again, but it is annoying non the less. Other than that what ACG has set gives a good ability to spot distant targets and keep track of close ones. Medium needs a bit of work though. :3

I agree, I am much better shot since 1.5 because earlier I had an old PC and 15-20fps and now 60fps gave me much better reaction times.

Not only jets. Props fall short of expectations as well as gun shots and hits, explosions. The one good thing is the p51' scream its pretty nice. But almost always something seems out of place.
