I'm afraid that simulator like DCS cannot be balanced around game mechanics. Yes we can try to give both sides as much "fair" starting position as possible, but it will never be trully balanced due to the nature of the simulation. Just the fact that stats exist for Multiplayer means that it will bring out the best and worst from people. DCS Multiplayer is very limited too, missing dynamic campaings is the worst part. It simply is not yet strong enough platform to prepare really engaging campaings that would at the same time not require HUGE amout of work from community. In my opinion developer should strive for as much realistic representation of the aircraft as possible and the balancing itself should be left for campaing/mission builders. If it means that some aircrafts will not be able to bring in to the fight part of the available equipment, then let it be like that. In the end, if realistic campaign should come to mind, it cannot be balanced unless it will be "fantasy" type of campaign.

I know, but it will take longer than I hoped for. :)

Although I understand the reasons behind it, it saddens my heart to not see the A-7 on the road map. I was so much looking forward to this bird.
-
As far as I know the only other aircraft that will use raytracing (or waves simulation in general) for its radar modeling will be F-18C and probably A-7 from Razbam. The current implementation of radar of all other aircrafts is based on different detection model. But I'm basing this on all the information I have gathered from forums in past years, I have no proofs. :)

I suppose this is the main reason why people want DCS on steam but most will not admit it. :D

My local print shop would print it for me, but the format does not fit A5 so they would have to do it on A4 and that is quite unusable as it is too large. I already have A-10C and KA-50 printed in A4 format and bound, but its really really clunky to read from it. Also the cost for the printing is horrendous. What i have found to be the best solution is to get a 8" or 10" tablet and read it in pdf there.

I'm currently in the same process as you were in. I'm going through the training mission now (again :) ). Maybe we will see each other on the server in few weeks.

Lightning/shadows, contrast, color representation, reflections, sense of depth... DCS developers are taking steps, small at a time but eventually each time we are closer to the reality but you will never get what you are asking for until we will have true VR engine with double precision lightning and shadowing. This is something we can hope for in 20 years maybe. The main problem with it is the computing power needed for true double precision computing.

Thank you for your answers.

So I would like to get into the A-10C after a long time and was wondering one thing. How are real pilots treating the throttle in A-10C? I know this is based on situation, flying in wings will change it completely but what are the standards? For example when I'm traversing long distances, it is ok to put 100% throttle for long time? Are engines build around this? Are there any repercussions if I will do it, like engine damage or does it affect only fuel consumption in a long run? I'm usually flying with jets where it is something you do only occasionally and usually in combat so that is why I'm asking (not that there would be any damage modeled around time of afterburner used...) and fuel consumption is a BIG thing there.

So basicaly advanced ATC will come along with F-18C to support the new air traffic around carrier? I suppose they could release it step by step to support each part separately though...
-
I might also add that a good ATC should be able to navigate you for landing in case of instrument failure and bad weather. That is at least what Im looking for the most. But as I said previously, new ATC is being worked on and we will hopefully see it soon.
-
I suppose Falcon 4.x? :)
-
Dynamic Campaign along with improved ATC is what DCS needs a lot. It will make the servers a living breathing place to be in. The last forum pool where ED asked what people want in future quite expressed that. Even though it will take some time, we will eventually get it. :)

Maybe it has something to do with the recent changes to Mav? It was tuned for more realistic behavior and TGP may be lacking behind in updates.

Upgrade CPU or GPU? Recommendations?
Jumbik replied to Reverze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
CPU... simply put, check performance charts and choose the one with the best single thread performance within your budget. -
The last update I remember was from the end of last year when Wags was streaming Nevada. We could see that they were working on it for 2.0 version but did not finish it before Nevada launched. From what I can tell it was postponed for 2.5 merge.

Summer time is always like this. Every server is now less populated.

I'm not using the beta so I can't comment on that.

Thinking of getting a WH, concerned about problems
Jumbik replied to bkthunder's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It took me two years to do the same decision. :) -
I feel like rookie even after two years. Joining a squadron helps a lot though. Don't be afraid of multiplayer coop missions. DCS is the most complex game I have played so far and even though you can have quick fun with most modules, the real fun starts when you learn how the on board avionics really work and start to use them in a way they were intended to.

Hmm I'm quite curious about today's patch (did not download beta). I like the SU-27 flight model as it is more fun to fly.

I was experimenting with this too when I had X-55 and frankly found only half working solution. You can add delay for the key presses (how long they are held) which gives you a small window where you can return the axis to neutral position. This probably does not solve your issue though. You can also define more bands than 3 and change the percentage of space they occupy which allows you to create a certain field of steps where each field will do different thing. You can have empty fields in between to stop the endless stream of pressed keys. But eventually you will run into a problem where you will simply not know in what position the rotary is. The only really working solution I came up with for rotaries were two stage bands. When the rotary is in a neutral position (easily recognizable by the detent) it does nothing. When moved forward or backwards it does either a key press with certain delay or an advanced command and you have a small time window to move the rotary back to neutral position without making any more unwanted key presses.

TeamSpeak "Push for Talk" with X-55 Throttle Slider
Jumbik replied to Bearfoot's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's why I have upgraded to Warthog, well one of the reasons... to have things work as intended and to stop making work arounds to make half functioning axis and hats to do what I want from them.
