  1. In a 1vs5, i'm running away, even if its not an organized flight lol, but i'll give another shot at flying high. But thats not what I want to know, This is about notching
  2. I agree, the reason why I say it is rarely effective is because (at least by my personnal experiance) flying high will get me into 3v1 far more often than flying low because I do not need my radar on when I fly low. If we are in a 1v1 high, sure, its a good thing to fly high, but I have survived to being surronded by maybe 10 bandits (relatively close, track was corrupted, so couldn't run tacview) and i got 5 kills by sneaking into mountains. That would never have happened flying high.
  3. Dat music XD Good Video. That answers for how to do the notch, I still don't know for tactics to use it. Is what I described (Once we get close to each other (20/15nm (not sure of the range, would be nice to havve advices on that too)). I notch him, than comback head to head, but during the time he lock me again I launced A missiles inside/at the max of NEZ and get defensive before he gets to fire. ) Is more than what a notch can do, or is it possible? Also Can I get tips if there are some to keep some idea of where the bandit is than visual?
  4. I know about those things Hadouken, A good notch is hard to do, this is why i'm asking for advice. I know I have to get out of the notch, the point is that he sees me after its too late for him. If he does launch before I notched, the missile has to go to me at an angle of 45°, and if I try to notch at 20/15 nm, that missile isn't a threat and will never kill me. Stuge, I'm talking about a 1v1 head2head, if he has a wingman, i'll know that and I won't be notching. Keeping visual is possible, but that far and on the ground (as you're looking down) its quite hard to keep him (although its possible). The problem with higher is that you have 2 choices : 1-you keep your radar on at all time to get a good SA, but you will often get into 2/3v1 on big servers because of your radar being on, and flying at more than contrail height is a set up for getting an AIM-9/R-73 before you know someone's there. 2- You turn radar on and off, but might also end up in a bad position because you lack the SA you'd get with the radar. That's why I think flying high is only rarely effective, plus its much easier to defeat a missile with a mountain :). But thank you for your help.
  5. Just to clarify, I'm thinking of a scenario like a normal head2head, fairly low (0-7000' high) where we both have a lock on each other. Once we get close to each other (20/15nm (not sure of the range, would be nice to havve advices on that too)). I notch him, than comback head to head, but during the time he lock me again I launced A missiles inside/at the max of NEZ and get defensive before he gets to fire. Is this a good Idea? Is there better? Is that possible? How do I do that? and all the questions I asked in the first post. I basically want a general and flexible receip for standart head to head to get an advantage and change a fair fight into a fight where I have an advantage.
  6. For a long time, my BVR engagements could be resumed to : see the other, lock him, realised he locked me too, launch at some point, and the one that was still alive at the end was the one who had the better timing, as going defensive too early/late and you'd die. I'm now 1year old to the game, and I have started to think to the engagements I had where good pilots wrecked me. I think the best way to summerise that is a quote that pretty much said this : A good pilot will use his superior tactics to avoid equal fights where he'd have to use his superior skills. I have tried to get into stealth-ish kills to ''surprise'' the ennemy so he'd have no time to react. It worked out very well and got me a night in the 104th where i had 17kills and 2 deaths. PROBLEM IS : I was using the abundance of mountains to acheve that stealth, mountains that won't always be there, or sometimes be too small to save my ass, or sometimes I will get spotted and will have to go Head 2 Head as I usually did. So i got back to thinking table/reminding old fights with great ones. The solution I got was the notch : someone who makes you loose your lock/painting on radar of your target at +/- Rmax will have a great advantage on you if he kept an idea of where you where. (this is the part that lazy readers must read) I know the basic of the notch : be lower and keep the target to my 3/9. But I'd like help on 2 thigns : 1-How to effectively practice it (is there something else than doing it 50 times on a public server) 2-How to effectively reach my goal : how/when to use it in a fight, how to keep an idea of where my target is when i'm out of visual range and without radar (as I wont see him), how to get him to completely loose me, and mabe how to do the notch if it's more complicated than what I said. Thank you for help, this is very appreciated! :helpsmilie:
  7. There is that : https://www.google.ca/search?q=X+52&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=NaSxVKzZMYK1yQTf8IH4DQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=1017 (X52) But its not necesserely cheap...depends on you. Is it good? I never had it so can't really help. I only know of 4 joysticks : logitech 3d pro (20$-ish), the X52, the X55 and the warthog, so If you are looking for something between those, I can't really help you :/
  8. This summer I bought a warthog. All I had ever tried was 20$ koysticks...man... The warthog has 1 problem, the slew. Not the end of the world, you get used to it, but its the weak point of the stick and you should know that before buying it, although there's a WIP fix for it. That being said, warthog is the way to go if you can afford it. I'm a student and here that stick costs 600$, so its far from cheap for me, but It's 100% worth it. Stick-wise, the X55 is no where near the warthog (from the reviews I saw) and throttle-wise it is closer (both have their advantages) but the desing/layout of the buttons on the warthog is the best by far. For the 3 profiles, you got 6 layers in TARGET (programming software (Its great)) so yeah...you'll get more. For the sticktion, This cristmass I made myself a chair where I have the joystick beetween my legs (giggty). Its the way its meant to be, and I barely notice the stiction anymore compared to when it was on my desk, where I did notice it. Pedals wise, I'm using some old racing pedals, not great, but it does the job very well with a bit of programing (I rarely use rudder in flight, so its mainly for take off and stalls). SO IN SHORT : WARTHOG if pedals are not the #1 tool in flight.
  9. If it works, you are the best. I'm very interested!
  10. So its just the normal throttle that can be bought on her own? Thats a good news : we should get support/pieces a litle longer if they still are in the flight sim stuff.
  11. Good to know, clutter rejection was my main criteria for PRFs, I guess I read a bad tuto.
  12. I made another video in the 104th where I am trying to fight sneakily enough, I get into few dogfights and a lot of BVR/WVR fights. Didn't feel like creating another thread, as this one fits very well. Is creating new thread for new videos seen as spamming? Or is it bad by anyways? I'm just wondering, because it's very nice to have feedback. Imagine putting ±5 hours for nothing.
  13. They should make this into a game with the occulus rift... or just make the video in 3d for it...Now thats some real 3D action!
  14. I bought usb extensions instead, it was more practical, but thanks anyway.
  15. I know, that's a recording mistake...lol
  16. All right, thanks you very much, you have been very usefull!
  17. Thank you Can I also get your opinion on usb extensions, as It'd fit my plan better. how about something like this : http://addison-electronique.com/catalog/product/view/id/17641/s/extension-actif-usb-2-0-a-male-a-a-femelle-5m/ or this : http://addison-electronique.com/catalog/product/view/id/16710/s/10ft-usb-2-0-extension-cable-a-male-to-b-male/ would those cause a latency problem?
  18. What do you mean by a decent powered hub?
  19. I'm building a chair to have my hotas placed like in a real plane, and, as the warthog is super expensive, I do not want to dammage its wires. So I decided to link the hotas to my pc by a usb extension or a usb hub. The thing is that I don't know if these extensions could degrade gameplay (by latency or anything else) or could dammage the commands. Hope you can explain to me wether i'm making stuff up or I am about to blow up my warthog Thank you
  20. Is it that bad?
  21. Just to help you, contrails are from about 7000meters ( 29 000' if I got a good memory ) up to 41 000', Knowing that, its easy to find high bandits. I just though you could be interrested in that as its related to radar operation...kind of off topic though
  22. This is the one that served me : Its outdated, but it will give you the information you want I think.
  23. Thank you :)
  24. Hi, i'm wondering why nearly all planes have a greenish paint below the final paint layer. A lot of WW2 planes had a green cockpit, and even nowdays, planes missing final coating have a green paint. By exemple the F35s http://www.operatorchan.org/v/thumb/139162710590s.jpg I know that russian cockpits are green to reduce eye-fatigue, but why are aeronautics companies putting a green coating prior to the final paint?
  25. If you are trying to evade a 120 when its pitbull, you have done wrong. Try to anticipate when the ennemy will launch and keep the ennemy at you gimbal distance, until the missile you fired goes active(or when you feel guiding your missile is less prioritary than evading), than go fully defensive (and if you have well anticipated, you might get an active 120 about here). From here, things splits appart and require SA or adaptation : 1-Hide into mountains/terrain if possible 2-make the missile's way to you longer, and thus make it loose more speed (you have to judge according to the situation). Go lower to make the missile get more drag from thicker air, go higher if you think the missile is low on energy, turn around in an other direction (90° in the end to the missile) and fire some chaffs, etc. Keep in mind : going defensive is no solution, it only makes you live longer. If you don't try to get back to the fight or bring the ennemy into SAMs, otherwise, as the ennemy is an F15, it'll catch you up without too much trouble. Going defensive too early is a good way to die, just like going defensive too late. This being said, I'm 11moths old to the game. I'd consider myself at least decent as I win the vast majority of my engagements, but there might be some false in what I said, even if it works for me. Also, I'm and F15 pilot mainly, so once again some things I said might not apply to the Su27.
