My buddy flies real world F5s in an adversary squadron (Red Star and all). I got him to GoPro his time out in Nevada. That is how they were flying that day. He flies low circling a mountain looking up. Talk about use of the mark 1 eye ball. Guy can spot a dot soo far away. So I guess it is a real world tactic of the migs - since that is what they simulate.

SO I am Buying a Warthog Anything i Need To Know??
Need-To-Know replied to Yob's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I do not believe it is common. However the first stick I got had a hat that was not working. It worked in 2 of the 4 directions. It took me a couple of days with me thinking maybe it was a software or computer problem. I just suggest you install it and check all of the buttons first thing. Go to Start Button on Windows desktop >> Devices and Printers >> Find your Stick and Throttle. Right Click on the icon Choose "Game Controller Settings" Choose your Stick or Throttle by highlighting it and then Press "Properties". You can then see if all buttons and hats are working properly. I returned mine quickly to the vender "B&H Photo" and got an replacement. -
I agree with my colleagues above. I put off buying the Huey thinking it would be boring. Now it is all I fly. I will say it takes a little imagination - but I have plenty. Like imagining you have troops loaded. Or guys running up with stretchers. But all in all a good bit of fun. I used to get mad when it would plummet out of the sky for no apparent reason. But I have learned what to listen and watch for to avoid it. Also like scrtagnt69 says - use navigation as one of the challenges to make it more enjoyable. It can be a bit hard using landmarks for navigation in the current iteration of DCS's map but might change in the future. Knowing once you get good at flying it you have something that not all players on the multiplayer servers can fly (or really TO & Land). Flaming Cliffs guys will (should) marvel at your talents. :)

How Real is it and how effectiv is the real A-10C?
Need-To-Know replied to EF2000's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
http://www.military....23435630&rank=4 BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Two A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots assigned to the 74th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, provided close-air support to 60 U.S. Soldiers July 24. The Soldiers were part of a routine clearance patrol that was ambushed after their lead vehicle in a convoy of 12 turned over during a patrol of an Afghanistan highway. The situation forced the Soldiers to establish an overnight base while they pulled the vehicle out of a ravine. As the sun rose, the unit began to receive heavy fire from a nearby tree line. The members were pinned behind their vehicles and three of the Soldiers suffered injuries. The unit was under fire and the wounded members needed a casualty evacuation so they called for close-air support. However, there was one problem; the ground unit didn't have a way to confirm the enemy's position. The unit did have a joint fire observer who was able to communicate an estimated location to the A-10 pilots who arrived on scene shortly after receiving the call from a local base's joint terminal air controller responsible for coordinating aerial engagements. "I flew over to provide a show of force while my wingman was looking for gunfire below," said the flight lead of the two-ship A-10 mission. "Our goal with the show of force was to break the contact and let the enemy know we were there, but they didn't stop. I think that day the enemy knew they were going to die, so they pushed even harder and began moving closer to our ground forces." When the enemy combatants didn't flee after the show of force, the A-10 pilots decided to deliver air-to-surface munitions to protect the friendly ground forces. "Even with all our (top-of-the-line) tools today, we still rely on visual references," said the lead pilot, who is on his first deployment from Moody Air Force Base, Ga. "Once we received general location of the enemy's position, I rolled in as lead aircraft and fired two rockets to mark the area with smoke. Then my wingman rolled in to shoot the enemy with his 30 millimeter rounds." According to the pilots, that really stirred up the attacking force. The enemy moved even closer to the friendlies in an attempt to prevent the A-10 from attacking again. The ground forces were now taking on a large amount of fire from the trees and surrounding high terrain. "We just kept putting down more 30 mm rounds," said the second A-10 pilot, also deployed from Moody AFB. "The bad guys were closing in and according to the muzzle flashes there were a lot of them, but because people were shooting all over the place, the JTAC didn't feel safe bringing in helicopters in to evacuate the wounded personnel." The pilots said usually after the first or second pass, the enemy runs away, but this enemy force was large and willing to fight. The pilots continued to fire 30 mm rounds, but the enemy force refused to fall back. Now, the enemy force was close enough to engage the unit with grenades, so the convoy's commander approved the pilots to engage "danger-close." The term is meant to clearly communicate to the ground and air forces that the need for support is so grave the ground commander is willing to accept the potential risk to the friendly unit for the life-saving employment from the air. "We train for this, but shooting danger-close is uncomfortable, because now the friendlies are at risk," the second A-10 pilot said. "We came in for a low-angle strafe, 75 feet above the enemy's position and used the 30-mm gun -- 50 meters parallel to ground forces -- ensuring our fire was accurate so we didn't hurt the friendlies. The engagement lasted two hours that day, and in that time, the A-10s completed 15 gun passes, fired nearly all their 2,300, 30-mm rounds, and dropped three 500-pound bombs on the enemy force. "That last gun runs must have made them give up," the two pilots agreed "because the firing stopped." Shortly after the engagement was complete, an MC-12 aircraft specializing in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance arrived and began scanning the area for enemy forces that might be regrouping. Sometimes when close-air support leaves, enemy forces will attack again, so the A-10s remained on-station until all the Soldiers were safe. "We wanted to make sure the area was safe because we had the pararescuemen from the 83rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron coming to transport the injured to Bagram's hospital," said the second pilot. "The flight doctor assigned to our squadron treated the wounded in the emergency room. It was an example of a successful mission with contributions from all assets of our base." After the pilots landed and debriefed, they went to the hospital to see the wounded Soldier. "He was laying there and next to him was a picture of his high-school girlfriend," the lead pilot said. "We were glad knowing we helped get him home alive. He said, 'Thank you for shooting those bad guys'. Luckily we were only a few minutes away and all the friendlies made it out that day." Providing close-air support is the squadron's main mission here, and is the specialty of the aircraft they fly, the A-10 Thunderbolt II nicknamed the "Warthog." "This was one of the most intense sorties our squadron has come into contact with in the last four months in theater," the lead pilot said. "Afterward the Afghan National Army said they found 18 enemy dead, so I can only imagine how many were out there. This was close-air support and this is what we train for." -
Engine Sound in Cockpit is Missing
Need-To-Know replied to Mallard of Death's topic in Bugs and Problems
Agree I am going to vote +1 for the ability to hear engines. Real World pilots get the feel in the seat of the pants and vibration that we do not. My buddy could not do great landings every time in my sim however in RW flies F5 and F18 charlies for an adversary squadron and does great RW landings every time. He is always the first to point out that without "tactile feel" can explain the reason why I can land my sim better than he can. :joystick: We make better gauge readers than they do. -
Hey Guys, I am currently playing on your server in a Huey. How do I load the troops? I have landed infront of the tents, opened the doors but nothing happens. Thanks

Ok my bad on that sorry - Try just putting Tablet PC - Then select Tablet PC Settings You should check http://Newegg.com for PC parts. They are fast and cheaper. My monitor has both a plug into the Video Card and an USB. I know it is all a pain in the rear but it is nice once it all works.... Once working getting Helios and Easy Monitor Configurator is not much fun either - but the results are really nice. -

I had a problem when I first set mine up. It was not the monitor it was in the configuration settings. So do not worry it is fixable. Humm - I have Windows 7 64 and I have Tablet PC Settings in my Control Panel. That is where you are going to need to go to get to the "Calibrate" button under Display Options. Alternatively you can: Clicking the Start button In the search box, type Tablet PC Input Panel, and then, in the list of results, tap Tablet PC Input Panel. If you still get stuck in the Calibrate Area let me know and I can offer pointers that helped me. -
When I was young I was a highend trim carpenter working on multi million dollar homes. My boss told me one day - you want your work to look great but not just to the homeowner but when another great trim carpenter sees it. Someone who really knows the effort it takes to create high quality work. I am now a texture artist working in 3D for a studio. Working in an entirely different field from games. I can see the amount of love and dedication your texture artist has put into this. Beyond anything else in DCS. Great work! Very impressive.

While I love the idea of the Sabre, and really thought I did not have much interest in a Mig21, after watching the video and reading Cobra's post, I have totally changed my mind. I like detailed aircraft in my sim. No Flaming Cliffs arcade stuff for me. This looks to be the real gem of the DCS aircraft. While I thought it would not happen I now say: "Рад тебя видеть - Comrade"

Helicopter flight model: DCS World VS "insert title"
Need-To-Know replied to Snottus's topic in Chit-Chat
Note - The developers of ARMA3 have helos next on their updates/DLC list. Do not know if they will ever be like DCS helos but there should be some improvements. They call it: RotorLib Flight Dynamics Model (FDM) https://www.bistudio.com/english/company/developers-blog/460-arma-3-roadmap-201415 I added a Helos mod to open up older helos for Arma3 just so I could add the Huey. Not soo big on flying it but fun to see it after spending time in DCS Huey. I usually hand it off to the AI to fly me into LZs. -
Nice post, I love these old movies/training films. Funny on the very first landing - if I did that straight in landing like that without a turn the chopper would hit the vortex and plummet to the ground. Thanks for posting.

Also note that EVGA is coming out with 6 gig 780s. If'ns you wanted to go with nVidia. Not a bad price either. $569 -(Same as what I paid for my 3 gig) I run 4 screens also with one 3 gig and they run really good. Going with the 6 gig when it comes out.....just to have better.

Yeah on the 104th server the Hueys are over weight on mission 5. I believe they are 10K + so it is necessary to check your weight and adjust fuel or lose rockets. I did have a unique problem yesterday in single player mission I have been working on. I crashed the Huey and then instead of reloading the mission I just hit the Spawn button. I re-spawned but the Huey was stuck to the ground. Not a weight problem but stuck like glue. Try respawning in single player and see if it happens to anyone else. I will test again tomorrow.

Ranger79 Base Objects Pack (Hesco's + others)
Need-To-Know replied to Ranger79's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Yeah I really like these items too. Spent many an hour trying to get the Hescos lined up all of the way around base.....getting there. My Active base is looking pretty tight now. Thanks Wish you would release those cool looking ground crew guys. :) -
I too would like to do this as I have a similar setup.
-
I believe it just uses Hot Keys so no need to add interface. Gauges do not work like radios or Emergency lights. But I believe that is something that was not developed for this anyhoo - just spaces for them. So just start it up and run DCS and it should work fine. In my experience.

4.25" inside measurement is correct just checked mine.

Thank you Riptide! I will try your advice next time I am on your server. Killing targets will be much more fun than buzzing Anapa to show of my ski-zills as a chopper pilot and just watching fighters take off...hehe Appreciate your efforts and design. Notice to any other Huey Pilots. I look forward to seeing you on the 104th server and maybe we can TS while joining forces.

I enjoy this server allot. It is the one with the most players most of the time. If I had a suggestion it would be for Huey pilots. The current ZSUs and other enemy's are too powerful for me/Hueys. In several tries I just get shot down too quickly so finally just quit going to their locations and mainly just fly around pointlessly. Truck convoys, troops, fuel trucks, etc. would be more fun on the Huey target list. Also FYI the Huey's in Mission 5 (I think it is 5) are over weight. They have full fuel and all arms. If one does not change the loadout the chopper will never leave the ground. Just giving feedback. Thanks for the server. :)
