  1. The first part of this article on the forums was a life saver. I was having issues with performance after the patch and then came across this. I had previously uninstalled OpenXR tools and windows composite because it would not allow me to record in OBS. I had also uninstalled PimaxXR (I have a PIMAX 8K). After reading the article below, I reinstalled the JUST PimaxXR and run SteamVR the way the article says to. Under setting and developer, you run SteamVR with openXR (must have PimaXR for PIMAX) and instantly all performance issues corrected in DCS. I was back to running 150% per eye in the SteamVR resolution, 1.5 PD on the PItool, and high setting in game. Runs with no issues now. I will post a video here soon demonstrating the performance. I am very impressed now. This was actually an improvement over what I previously had running SteamVR. I really appreciate the article from mbucchia, that solved everything.
  2. I have the same question for Big Newey. Pimax only use PimaxXR. The last time I used this, it would not allow me to record with the OOBS openvr plugin. I did not see a drastic performance increase switching from SteamVR to PimaxXR either, so I stayed with SteamVR. Does this mean those who do not want to use the OpenXR/PimaxXR are forced to now? I hope there is some clarification soon so I can get back to smooth gameplay. This is a bit frustrating, especially since the crew and I have weekly flights scheduled.
  3. So has anyone found a way to run DCS without this option of trying to run OpenXR automatically. I can run DCS with my PIMAX 8K and it is running through steam, but man has performance dropped. FPS is jittery even during the day with little assets around. It reminds me of when I tried Fixed Foveated Rendering with the PItool back in the day. When I turned it on jittery, when I turned it off, ran just fine. Now I feel like DCS is trying to force it. I wish this was an option to enable/disable. Whatever they implemented for OpenXR has kicked performance in the crotch with PIMAX. Everything was running smooth prior to the patch. Be curious to see what others come up with over the next few days. I really hope Multi Core, Vulkan and DLSS eliminate VR performance issues and there is no longer a need for OpenXR.
  4. Plan on doing a video later but I have also observed a decrease in performance with my PIMAX 8K in the latest patch. A while back I downloaded OpenXR because everyone said it was the cats ass and increased performance. I did not really see anything that blew my skirt up. And it caused issues recording in OBS with openvr plugin. I removed it and all Openxr tools ect.. Only run off steam VR and the Pitool. I cannot speak for everyone else, but as of writing this, I can still play DCS just fine only using Steam VR. I am will not go back to Openxr because I find the best VR videos are captured in the OBS openvr plugin. Hopefully ED can work on the decrease in VR performance that came out of this patch. Plan on running a night carrier op later. We will see how she goes. The video below was taken a few days ago before the patch. I will run the same flight later to see how it goes.
  5. I took the Apache up for a night flight seeing how it has been months since I have done it last. The boy and I are preparing for a night mission in it so I thought I would get reacquainted with setting everything up and low level flight (could have been a little faster). This is a perfect example of where I would like to be hands free and using the full motion hand tracking with the body. You can see the pilot manipulating the NODs and IHADSS. I hope in the future we can replace the Nomex gloves in the above video with the full blown VR pilot. The immersion flying this mission was incredible with the high fidelity pilot ED has created for the Apache. I feel like the video demonstrates this pretty well starting up the aircraft. I would be interested if there are others interested in having the same ability in VR.
  6. This is a big ask, but would it be possible for those of us with hand tracking to eventually see the arms and hands of the virtual pilot in VR take the place of the current nomex gloves? I think this would be a total game changer for those of us who fly in VR with the pilot figure turned on. You can already get a feel for what it would be like if you currently fly with the Apache pilot turned on and watching him move his hands/arm to interact with the monocle. It would be awesome if we could reach up and pull it down ourselves. I have not tried it yet (need to be the hand tracking soon), but there have been some YouTube videos surfacing about hand tracking now working a lot better after the most current updates (video below, not mine). If we already have hand and arm movement with the Apache pilot, I would love to extend this to hand tracking where we can see ourselves reaching forward and interacting with everything in the cockpit in the VR body. I think this would turn up the immersion factor a lot. It has already been done on other VR games, I feel like ED could eventually pull it off. Thoughts?
  7. I agree with NineLine on this one. I think FlyingIron did a great job but I am really fired up the ED is doing this one. I remember hearing in an interview a while back Nick had flown one and always wanted it in DCS. So this was not completely unexpected but unexpected. Really fired up we are starting to see more of the Pacific War come to DCS. There was so much shown for the future of DCS in the 2023 Beyond trailer, I hesitate to say I want anything else right now because that would just be ungrateful.....................BUT! LOL. Makes me wonder who will pick up the P-38 at some point. She was a multi campaign girl that would fit perfect in all WW2 Theaters for DCS right now. Flying her in VR regardless of the sim is always a very impressive experience, especially when flying with a squadron and you are all rolling in on a ground target together. I am a very happy customer with what we have coming for 2023 and would not ask for more right now. There is so much coming and so much I am currently working on in the sim. I cannot thank ED and the third party Devs enough for what they do for us. To say they have made my aviation dreams come true falls very short of how I really feel every week, sometimes every day, jumping into DCS and taking to the skies in VR. Right now I fly at minimum every Thursday with the boys either mastering the A-10, F-18, or Apache. Last night was a show doing a CSAR mission in the A-10's. Limped back with one engine do to my wingman misidentifying me as a threat. She takes a sidewinder like a champ! ED has a life long loyalty pass from me. They have created more than a flight sim, they have created a community from every corner of the globe with the same passion for aviation. I am proud to be a part of that crowd and these online discussions. No other hobby would let me cross paths with current and former professionals teaching us how to fly what they did in the military. It is an honor to converse and be a part of those groups. Thanks again ED for everything, and here is to a bigger 2023 and life long continued passion for military aviation!
  8. Absolutely cannot wait for the Hellcat to make the scene! After the 2023 and Beyond trailer yesterday, I had to take her up for a spin out of Pearl Harbor yesterday after work. If you want to practice and get a feel for her before she gets to DCS, Flying Iron has done a great job. Thanks again ED for making every year better for my virtual aviation dreams. No one can compete! And also, great job on the video production this year, it has become an opening release film. There was almost 5,000 people waiting to see it before the video started on YouTube, including this guy skipping out on a meeting at work for 8 minutes. Here is a little Corsair love as well. Could not leave her out after the trailer either. Whistling Death is by far my favorite aircraft! Counting the hours till I can hit the purchase option on the store.
  9. DCS is an addiction to me. I convince myself they are going to do a lot of things that have not happened yet............Cobra.............
  10. That it would be!
  11. I doubt it will never get added, threads like this tend to bring these functions to ED's attention. Like any other business, visibility on issues tend to drive prioritizing them. This seems to me like it would be a somewhat easy implementation but I am not programmer or sim designer so I could be way of the mark on that one. If there are functions they can lawfully release in sim with the A-10 that are not there yet, I have faith it will happen someday. There are a lot of Hog drivers out there. I still see it flown like crazy online when I jump on. She is a beast!
  12. ED, can you please make this happen. I am tired of accidentally having the alphabet all over the place while I am flying. This would be a major assist for those of us who consistently hit the MK point instead of SPI. From what I have researched and heard from guys in the Air Force, the button highlighted above is the actual delete MK point button in the aircraft. This would be really beneficial and hopefully an easy ask.
  13. Appreciate the feedback gents. I was hoping someone from the ED house could jump in and provide some insight. I was curious why the current we have in game has a button to delete them in real life, but it is not implemented in DCS. Especially when the button is already physically in game, just not labeled or functional. I was wondering if this was something that maybe accidentally got overlooked. It is my fault for creating MK points like a moron all the time, but it would be nice to clear them and prevent the issues of littering my SCORPION site or CDU with nonsense that is not needed (ALL MY FAULT).
  14. Following up on this BigNewy. Any way to delete Mark Points in the A-10 yet? My clumsy ass keeps creating mark points on accident with no way to delete them that I can figure out. It would also help when creating a second flight plan and accidentally hitting the mark point button on the CDU. Learning the lesson the hard way for sure.
  15. Looking forward to this movie. Glad you reminded me of it. I think I know what I will be doing with the wife this weekend.
  16. Took a flight around Espiritu Santo, the Island the Black Sheep were stationed on during the war. I would love to see ED or a third party incorporate the South Pacific Islands in the future. So many untapped potential there for new aircraft and battlefields on land, sea, and air. This is a taste of what it could look like lifting off in the morning to go intercept a Japanese group.
  17. I have been flying in VR for years and got use to manipulating everything in cockpit with the mouse that you would manage in the real aircraft. Anything I do not manipulate via the mouse is done with key binds to my Thrustmaster HOTAS. The only thing I use the keyboard for is starting OBS, external views, zoom function, and adding/removing in cockpit pilot. VR is not for everyone for sure, but for me, its the only true way to experience DCS to its fullest and live a dream I was never able to accomplish in real life. For this, Eagle Dynamics has made me the happiest dude around. My friends and I are consistently hearing from our wives that they would rather see their husbands flying in DCS for a hobby rather then sneaking away to a bar or a strip club. I always tell them, if you gave me the option between 1 or 2 lap dances and an hour in the Hornet or Tomcat, you can keep the dollar bills.
  18. Could not agree more! I think M3 will come out on top for sure. Just hope we have the whistling effect when diving. Sounds are everything with WW2 birds.
  19. So as I am sure most Corsair enthusiast already know, Blackbird Simulations has already released the Whistling Death on MSFS. I finally bit the big one and bought it waiting for Magnitude to push theirs out of the hangar. I highly recommend if you want to get a jump, especially in VR, learning how to start her up and fly her giving this a shot. I absolutely cant wait to see Magnitude spread this girls wings in DCS. I took a quick flight this morning around Wake Island. Magnitude, lets get this girl moving, DCS is home and the Marianas needs this!

    F6F Hellcat

We need this old girl 100% in the Pacific Theater in DCS and let me tell you, Flying Iron Simulations could knock it out of the park. I really hope they start working WW2 stuff after their A-7 release (absolutely cannot wait for that one!) Here was a quick flight last night in FI's Hellcat. The sounds will give you goose bumps with headsets on, just like their P-38. I posted a flight on the P-38 forum if interested. Not sure which one I like best.
  21. I was going to say the same thing! I did a quick video last night in VR and MAN, do they have what it takes to bring this to DCS! The engine control is spot on and the sounds, well the video demonstrates it. It can not be fully appreciated until you have the headsets on and are flying in VR. I did another video of the Hellcat, but will post that on the a Hellcat thread. I am hoping that after the A-7 (CAN NOT WAIT!) is out, they will dip there toes in the pacific warbirds modules.
  22. This seems like a fairly easy ask, but is there a way to integrate using a tinted visor on the helmets? One exists already in game, you just see the tip of it at the brow line of the pilot in VR. This would be awesome to utilize in VR, especially with the new weather effects. The mission below (PRE 2.8) that I fly with my friends can be quite the beast flying into the sun and reading the HUD, in fact you cannot see the HUD. That is why we bring it up on the MFD. Now that the weather is dynamic in 2.8, the clouds help suppress the sun at times, but I would still love an option to put the Tinted Visor down for use in VR for the sun. Opinions are welcome for VR users. Not sure if this would add a benefit to monitor players as I only fly in VR.

  23. I thought the same thing! Green glow on the main screen. Restarted DCS because I thought there was something wrong my VR headset. Still the same. Then I launched a mission my friends and I have created and been flying. Saw an extra large moon and was trying to figure out what was going on. Then realized the deck was covered in skeletons and understood what was going on. VERY NICE ED! I saw the above in someone else's video, the spooky sounds and ominous runway lights. I recorded the mission last night with the unexpected visit of DCS Halloween.
  24. To anyone reading this, I highly suggest creating a folder on your desktop or wherever you want it and label it backup DCS key binds. Then, as time permits, go into your DCS settings and control tab, and start saving each aircrafts key binds to that folder. I know it it time consuming, but it prevents the above headache. I just upgraded to a PCIe SSD for 2.8 and had to entirely move DCS over. I saved ALL aircraft profiles into a backup folder. You have to go column by column in each aircraft to save your bindings. I labeled each saved profile by the aircraft name then column name...exp F16 Throttle, F16 Joystick, F16 Keyboard. Then, as I started flying on the new SSD, as I chose an aircraft to fly, it took less than 2 minutes to load the profiles. You can do the same for the axis I believe. Not absurd, just standard. If you have been flying DCS long enough now, you should know that any major update might bring changes to the key binds. I would rather reload a profile for an improved experience in DCS and additional functionality, than expect the company to work around my needs of saving my key binds. Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance.
