OH-6A by Tobsen and Eightball
Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Any cockpit screens yet? Also any chance of VR door gunner like Polychop is doing with the Kiowa? -
For years now I have wanted to support the DCS community by offering any assistance I can providing any information I have obtained in over the 130 plus books I own on Military aviation and armor. For year I have been collecting books on the subject matter, several of which were published right after WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam. If there are any mod maker, Third Party Devs, or even ED needing information for modules, maps, battle plan images, bomb impact photos, liveries, markings ect....I probably have something on it. I cannot make promises I will have everything, but I can promise to assist with what I have. I do not want to see the below history sit on a bookshelf and not go back to the community and product that has come to be my favorite hobby. Pictures listed below of the books I own. I will put a few notes below the ones I think may be of assistance, especially in the WW2 department. The Gunsligners in action and Aeroscouts in Vietnam had INSANE amount of info regarding the Huey, OH-6, and Cobra. Gunslingers was written by a Vietnam pilot who flew all of them. He goes into extreme detail with call signs, formations, tactics, command structure. I cannot recommend these enough to rotor jocks wanting to create content, especially 8 ball and his new OH-6 modnull inbound. null Yes, I love the Corsair!!!! My favorite WW2 girl and grew up around 6 of them in Texas. Alot of good stuff here especially if interested in Campaigns for regarding Corsair Aces, Tactics , and info. Some really good stuff here regarding B-17's, original photos, and especially in the livery and markings department for WW2 era aircraft. The Allied fighters book gives INSANE records of the number of aircraft used at different bases and what for during the years on listed on the cover. This is a good one for campaign makers interested in authentic numbers and variants of aircraft used during the war on the Allied side. Absolute must for anyone interested in the Battle of Brittian is the top middle book. The stats are abundant and spot on with so much that happened during the war. Again, great for campaign developers looking for accurate info on this battle. This is one I pride myself on finding, the ships and aircraft of the US Fleet. This collection of books was written right after the war and gives the exact number, ship/aircraft during the war, where they were all located during different time periods ect... The was a local holy <profanity> find on a dusty shelf at an Antique store. Anyone looking to create content for the pacific, this would probably help for sure. Looking for maps and battle plans for WW2, covered! Great photos and maps in these for campaign devs. Also a ton of info about a lot of the battles fought. Now we get into the Germans. I had no idea I had collected so much on the Axis side of the house, had to break it up into 2 photos. Next round is armor. The primary book I want to point out here is the Luftwaffe Squadrons book. This is just like the Allied Fighters book listed above only for the Germans. Insane amount of info on where all variants and types of aircraft where stationed throughout the war. Outstanding book for campaign makers. The above is pretty straight forward with the exception of the armored trains. This is something I feel EVERY simulator has neglected for WW2 and hope to see ED or a third party Dev make for AI. Armored trains where a key role for the Germans during the war and again, I just happen to come across the 2 books above. Great reference material for types of German armored trains, their weapons, capabilities ect... I really hope to see these make their entrance into the DCS world. These are some modern era books I have with great info on some more current conflicts if the material is lacking for anyone. The Air War in Iraq especially was a good one. A great series showing A LOT of impact image before and after. Might make good for campaign devs and briefing/debriefings. Some good information in the ones that pertain to the modules we have and general information on the time period. Best for last. These were created earlier on after the war when censorship was an afterthought. This is nowhere near the entire collection of this series of publications. There are raw unedited photos of the war to include everything you can think of. The title of each book covers taht specific battle, commander, aircraft ect.... Any information you could possibly want on the topics in the books above are covered in there. I cannot recommend these enough to this community. I collect them as I find them. Sometimes you can get good deals on Ebay. If any campaign devs are looking for solid and accurate detailed accounts, this is a great source. All the books above have been purchased by me from an assortment of antique and book shops. I am more than willing to scan information or look something up for you if you think it can be of assistance. No of the books minus the F-16 training manual where government property so there should be no conflict in providing info you need. You can either reply to this post or send me a private IM. Hopefully some of the information above can be put to good use for our DCS content and keep this history alive in those of us who still greatly appreciate it.

Messed that one up and already was thinking 2024. Agreed, not happening in 23. -

Hopefully this year. So far Violent Nomad has at least been providing updated videos as the mod progresses. -

This is going to be a game changer for us Vietnam enthusiast. This came out of left field and hit the mark like none other. My buddy and I have been hoping someone would do this for a long time. Combine this with the new Cobra mod coming out, the Huey, and this new asset pack and we got us Vietnam in the Marianas. I was almost more excited about the VC asset pack. Any chance you gents know how to code what Polychop just pulled off being able to pick the M-4 up and shoot from the Helo in VR? This was a big one in the Loach during Vietnam with the Scouts and their CAR-15 rifles. It would be awesome to be able to pick one up and engage VC while Scouting. Demo video below for both shooting from the door and the Cobra mod. -
I have to admit, I was skeptical when thinking if I wanted an F-111 in DCS until I just purchased the new one for MSFS that released a few days ago. Below is a video I shot tonight in VR with what one could look like in DCS. I flew out of Cyprus. Really hoping a third party or ED consider this down the road. This was absolutely one of the best flights I have had in VR with MSFS and wished it was in DCS. Forgive the near death encounter at the end with someone who was not paying attention to me on final. Look forward to seeing this forum get a little more love with those interested in the Aardvark.

Will there be any plans to populate Gaza to a more realistic standard to match current day (without regarding the current conflict and avoiding a political convo)? I was curious if this is to much of a hot bed to touch for obvious reasons or if it is planned and nothing has really been said about it.
-
I may shoot a quick video over the Solomons tomorrow in MSFS just to give a scale perspective. See if I have time. I could not agree more on the suggestion. I really hope we will see more Pacific maps down the road.
-
I figured this would be the best thread to start for an all-encompassing wish list for the Pacific Theater be it module ideas or AI assets. I will kick this off with my top 5 Pacific Allied Fighters I am looking forward to or would like to see. Coincidentally I have all 5 for MSFS so I did a quick video series of what we might could expect if they were in DCS flying out of the Marianas Island's, with the exception of the Tomahawk which was further south. Top 5 are 1) Wildcat 2) Hellcat (inbound from ED) 3) P-38 Lightning 4) Corsair (inbound from Magnitude someday) 5) P-40 Tomahawk. All had pivotal roles in the pacific and I feel would be highly sought after aircraft.
-
Whoever was going to start this for DCS should seriously team up with the people who mad the one for MSFS and look at bringing it to DCS. I did an entire thread on why this aircraft would be right at home in DCS world. They way they conducted air to air refuel for other aircraft in Vietnam was insane.
-
Did this project die? After flying the old girl in MSFS, I could not see a more fitting cargo plane for our future Vietnam scene. Hope to reignite this one! It is a blast to fly in VR on MSFS. Would probably be my go-to cargo aircraft. Below was me flying out of Creech to give a demo of what it would be like in DCS. All ion VR.

So small update. All three of us flew tonight for 4 hours and to my astonishment, Wulfe (first guy I flew with) our coms worked fine. Kandy on the other hand, he cannot hear us. We can hear him and he sees the transmit, but no audio on his side. We will keep you up all up to speed as we try to isolate what is going on. We are all using the internal PIMAX headset. The 3 of us only fly in VR. Right now we have to use Skype to communicate until we iron this out.

Last night when 2.9 was released my buddy and I jumped into a quick mission on the Nevada map with the F-18 (cold start). Started up, VOIP buttons assigned, all went well and we could hear each other and speak to one another on multiple channels both comm1 and 2. Flew over Nevada for a bit then bounced over to the Marianas map and flew the Huey. Flew 2 hogs, radios worked just fine we both heard each other and could converse with no issues. Jumped into 1 slick and tested the intercom. I could hear my buddy (primary pilot) from the gunners seats but could not communicate with him. I jumped to the Copilot seat and we could converse over intercom no issues. Seems to be a problem with intercom and the gunner positions. We then jumped over to the F-18 on the carrier (same map/mission) and did a cold start. This is where the problems started. After we cranked up, my buddy could see me transmitting on com1 and com2 but could not hear me. He would transmit on com1 and com2 and I could hear him. My aircraft volume knobs where cranked all the way up. After trouble shooting for awhile we called it. Jumped into today with our other team member and nothing but issues. Ran the same Nevada mission from last night with the Hornet and I could hear him, but he could not hear me. Jumped over to the Marianas in the Huey same mission from last night, and flew in 1 bird. I could hear him on the intercom but he could not hear me. Neither one of us where getting a green transmit indicator when trying to talk to one another. We tried both a normal server and dedicated. Also tried a different mission on a persistent campaign with same results. I am curious how we went from a successful test last night with no issues to me not being able to transmit out now. I have run through every setting including all volume setting and no dice. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I will try to shoot a video later and attached the trak file as well.

You sir have put me in my place! This is a good call. I forgot about these and I own all of the ones that are released. I am not 100% sure what magnitude will do at this point either with the WW2 stuff. I feel like they will release everything all at once, but I feel like we will get charged for the carrier. In an interview, they said they were wanting to do deck crew for the carrier, but it might be a little harder with WW2 stuff. We shall see.

It is not that I disagree with what you are saying. It would have been nice to see insurgents come with the Syria map, in fact at one point I thought ED said they were making them. After we got a couple technical trucks with guns in the back of the pickup, it seemed to end there. I was hoping for actual insurgent units. The goal of this post was to 1. see if ED might comment on future units such as these, and 2. see if the interest was there to purchase a Middle East asset pack if DCS had no plans to make them. I agree with you that it makes it a pain for some people who do not have the finances to buy an additional asset pack, but ED simply cannot make this stuff for free. Another thing to look at is the WW2 maps. DCS went the route of adding the asset pack for that because of all the time and hard work that went into the details for those assets, and they are still adding to it today. To be honest, name one flight sim that has actually included high fidelity ground units and Infantry with it along with the base sim. It has not been done, at least not to the standards of ED. I know you could probably debate IL-2 because they have Tank Battles, but here again, the ground units come as a separate module, and you pay a lot for it. For the quality and realism we expect to see out of ED, I would expect to pay them for the hard work they put into it. To ask for a large asset pack for free with a base map is not financially sound.
-
Really did not want to see this turn into a thread about paying or not. Pretty simple, if you dont want to pay, do not buy. If you want something better than the base game, pay to have it. If you think it should be free, learn to code, design and develop it for all of us. Back to the real topic, do people want these AI assets as much as I do? I have a sneaky feeling something is in the pipe ED will talk about with CA being worked on and the new character movements, but it has been radio silence for a while on that front. I was hoping someone from ED might jump in and throw us a bone. If not, I would love to see some third party love on the AI packs for modern day conflicts.
-
With the Chinook coming out, Kiowa, and already having the Syria and Sinai map, when are we getting a proper insurgent/terrorist AI pack? I know I am beating a dead horse but is there any details on the future of ground AI assets, specifically for the time periods and regions we currently have? I would like to see some Al Quida, Isis, Hamas units along with maybe some different vehicles. Proper detailed weapons such as RPK's, AK's, and RPGs. This is a must for the Rotor pilots. Especially when the Kiowa comes out and is working tandem in multiplayer with the Apache. We need proper enemies. The same could be said about period specific allies including US Army troops in appropriate uniforms, special operation command to include Sela and SF AI units, and even Marine Marsoc and Airforce PJ's. We need some love on the ground to flesh out what is coming and what we already have. Really hope to hear back on this one. Seem like this topic has been running silent for years and eightball is the only one who has made a mod. Not knocking it but it does not do justice to what we need in DCS. Better than nothing, but looking forward to seeing some better AI units on the ground.

Was there any progress made on this? Been flying the F-14 since release with my Thrustmaster rudder pedals and HOTAS Warthog. Got a new computer recently and loaded the Tomcat back up along with every single module in DCS. I have had no issues binding axis or using my rudder pedals or throttle with any other aircraft. For some reason the F-14 allows me to bind the Stick and left/right toe brakes, but not the rudder pedals itself or the throttle. There is a red exclamation mark next to both rudder pedals and throttle before I even try binding them. Then when I bind them, there is a red exclamation mark next to the assigned axis for both. I hover the cursor over the red marks and all it does is tell me the axis I just bound; it does not provide the error/conflict. I have gone into the UI layer options and General options and have nothing bound to the axis. I have gone inside the RIO axis and have nothing bound there. I cannot figure out where the problem lies and I know it is not with my equipment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The F-14 is the only module giving me this problem and I want to get back to flying her with my new PC.

Did you ever figure this out? Been using scratchpad for some time and got a new computer. Reinstalled it fresh with the newest version (no old files) and noticed the same issue you where having. It starts automatically when DCS launches. Same as you, I hit SHFT/CTRL/X and it closes, but I need to do this every time it starts up. I was curious if you figured out the issue. -

It is not that we want the Super Carrier to stagnate or not see improvement, it is voicing those ideas and concerns in a constructive manner and understanding exactly what Silver Dragon and BigNewy have stated above, these are new features that take time and they have been completely transparent on. So again, you have received answers to your concerns, but you are frustrated with the pace at which they are pushing out updates. Looking at your prior history posting on these forums, you tend to focus on the negatives consistently instead of providing any positive feedback. You have a consistency to complain about everything broken. You are right about one thing though, I am a lost cause lawyer with you which is why this will be my last reply. Your track record shows you just like to keep this train going in an inevitable circle of useless debates. If we ever cross paths in the virtual skies over a sever, I will be glad to introduce you to a few AMRAMS or maybe just embarrass you and get a gun kill. If you want, I can take the F-86 and give you a chance.

If you presume to tell ED and the community what they should have added a long time ago, you should probably go to work with ED and try running the show then so everything is on your schedule. I can absolutely prove they do not have problems working across multiple platforms. Look at what has been released since the Super Carrier to include aircraft modules, the weather system update, multi-threading and a ton of bug squashing to name a few. It has been stated time and time again they are working on an entirely new system for the ground crew, first person view, deck crew hand offs for the aircraft, air boss station ect.... There is a reason this is all being released in a bigger update, it requires newer tech they are developing, My opinion is based on facts, you have bought them all since the Super Carrier has been released. This comes down to the simple fact of impatience followed by a sour attitude for getting called about it instead.
