Future of DCS complex modules, thoughts and opinions
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Something I would love to see is more authentic ground AI units for our modern maps. With the new troop carrying capabilities coming and the dynamic campaign, we really need some different units. USMC units, Army units, SOCOM (SEAL, SF, MARSOC). Our generic troops really take away from the authenticity of the sim itself. I know ED is working to improve. I remember technical vehicles were coming along with terrorist I believe. If we are to set up real missions, it would be nice to support varying units across the battlefield. SOCOM insertion/extraction missions, Army/USMC troop deployments, close air support for varying mission tempos. The list could go on. We have not even touched on what could be done with the WW2 soldiers. I also like the suggestion above for armor units. I wont go to into depth on this one. There are multiple forums on it, but the desire is there as well from guys who are familiar with old school Steel Beasts and M1 Abrahams games. -

Oh buddy! ED has not even come close to half of WW2. It will never cease to amaze people how many aircraft/variants of aircraft were produced during the war. A very underrated one I really want to see ED do is the P-51B Birdcage model. Love the look of her. As others have stated, the P-38 is a must for European and Pacific campaigns and holds a HIGH expectation level from the community, another great bird for ED to tackle. The P-39 Airacobra would be another fun addition along with maybe a P-61 Black Widow for us night fighters. We have not even mentioned the fact that we are missing a Hawker Hurricane which in my books is right up there with the Spitfire when it comes to legends and history. The list goes on and on for WW2. Africa, Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy. The list is long but distinguished................ -
DCS UH-60 Blackhawk mod
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
So I will post a video on this soon, but I figured out why comms are not working in the mission editor. There must be a bug. Easy comms must be enabled in the option followed by when you create the mission, it either has to be a hot start on the ramp or in the air. From a cold and dark start, it does not matter if you have the comms turned on correctly or not, it will not recognize ATC or the Tanker. So the mission I posted in this thread trying to do AA refueling is now capable as long as its a hot start. I will run through and record a mission tomorrow. The FPS is great for a stable take off and hover, but be sure to reset trim in the direction you are facing or the helo will try to whip around to its original course setting. Also, FPS is terrible when trying to tank. I have been disengaging it to refuel with the tanker then reengaging when back on level flight. It also seems to respond slowly when coming into a hot LZ so I usually turn it off and find better control. I am sure I am probably using it wrong because the Blackhawk pilot in the video I posted on this thread said its always in use and takes a lot of the manual tasks away from the pilot. He said it is standard SOP to fly with it on and it is rarely turned off unless an instructor pilot is testing a student. I would love to see videos of others using FPS and get their thoughts on it. Till the next video gents! -

I remember an interview last year or maybe the year before where it was mentioned Century Series aircraft such as the F-104 or F-100 were not in the cards for ED at the time. I remember when they also said they did not want to do a cargo module and then saw the overwhelming desire for one so now we are getting one (I strongly believe it is the C-47). This is why I love ED, they actually listen to what their customers want, so even though it was said Century Series was out for now, I could possibly see renewed interest down the road. That being said, next to the Sandy, I would absolutely love to see ED do an F-105 D,F, or G model. I think this would be a good one where they could combine one module into a multivariant, although it would cost more, I would gladly pay. The single seater D (Thunderchief) and the two seater G (Wild Weasel) would be awesome! I see more Vietnam oriented aircraft in the future, especially from 3rd party devs. I agree with Dragon on this one. It they wanted to complete the full fidelity Air Force line, an F-15C is logical. I also remember them saying in an interview that it was unlikely since it was in fact primarily air to air and Razbam was doing the Strike Eagle. Still, this would be a seller for a lot of people I believe, especially with how popular the simple one is in game now. I wont tackle to the red force Russian aircraft. That seems to be beating a dead horse. I think we all are aware at this point getting cooperation and documentation is a killer for most of these aircraft, which stinks. We can only hope for better results down the road. I would love to see some AIrbus/Aerospatiale/American Eurocopter Helos make the scene. Not sure if ED would be interested in those, but it has always been a dream of mine to see the Panther AS565 Panther and SA 330 Puma in a combat sim at the fidelity ED puts out. A lot of roles and countries for these two Helos to take part in. -

LOL! I have scene the C-47 teaser at the end of the last ED Mossie Rocket video. Cannot wait! -
So I would like to hear every ones thoughts on the subject. I have been flying all of ED's sims since the beginning as well as following their road maps. They never cease to deliver the finest product in the industry. With that said, it looks we are getting close to the end of the road with everything that has been on a road map. I have kept notes over the years with things they have specifically said. I think it is safe to say the future holds the F-4, AH-1W Cobra, and possibly the Mig-29A. Beyond that, what do you think ED will be interested in doing after these 3? These are not speculations either. A recent interview confirmed the Phantom is closer to release than many know and then we had the teaser with the Phantom gun reticle in the 2022 Beyond video. They have already stated they are doing the Cobra and they hope to do the Mig. This being said, what do you think ED will turn towards after these? Personally, I hope to see ED do the A-1H Skyradier. I would also like to see the WW2 modules continue to grow. I think the next holy s_it aircraft they could make would have to be a heavy WW2 bomber. I will not get into the dispute of map size or multiplayer because I do not think there is a valid argument there to say it could not be done, but I do believe ED has the technology and professionals to make this happen. There is more than enough desire for a B-17 module or B-25 with us WW2 pilots. Especially since my Grandfather led 2 B-17 squadrons during the war. Before anyone says it, yes, lets let them make the other 3 modules before speculating more, however I believe this is a good starting point for ideas going into the future. The F-4 is coming soon I feel, which leave a few years left for the other 2 by ED. Thoughts or opinions on what they should tackle next? I know the Tornado was not on the list per an interview with ED. A lot of people have been asking for the F-111. Curious to hear thoughts on this one.

DCS UH-60 Blackhawk mod

Here was an evening flight around the Marianas simulating a troop pick up at night and AA refueling. Still having trouble with the mission editor getting easy comms to work on the C-130J. Works fine in the instant AAR mission. I must be setting something up wrong. Already did the instant mission and successfully connected the first time around. I cannot stress VR enough with DCS world. Your performance in the Helos will be 100% better immediately. Also, really digging the Miami Vice sunset in VR. ED is doing an outstanding job with the clouds. Again, you dont know the power of the dark side, until you buy VR. You will not go back afterwards. -

Just FYI, your SAS was not turned on in that video. About to post a VR video below. Watch the start up procedure I did. Also, there is a video out there of a real Blackhawk pilot going through startup ect... I will also post this one. Long video, but well worth paying attention to if you want to fly the helo as accurately as possible until future updates. I am going to give everything he said in his video a shot later on. -
DCS UH-60 Blackhawk mod

Well gents, here she is, the first flight in VR. This mod far exceeded my expectations. Like others have stated above, I have had some issues getting the radio to work using the "\" key. I turn them on but do not get the comms menu. I have also noticed the same issue in the AA refueling instant mission. Using the default "\" key still does not bring up the comms menu. The mission shown in my video below was a quick one I threw together on the Marianas map. Not sure if I have messed up a trigger or some option in the mission editor that is causing the comms menu not to come up once I turn the radio on. Any advice would be appreciated. Really looking forward to future additions to this mod. Outstanding! And DAMN, in VR, it does not get any better. The immersion is spot on, especially when coming up to the carrier. Had the "Final Destination" tune stuck in my head. Hopefully one of these days we can do some fast roping missions. I noticed the option for rope length in the editor. Maybe rescue ops down the road? Congrats to the team for one hell of a job on this mod! Before to long, we will have the Apache and Kiowa. All we need now is the Cobra and Little Bird, then we have a modern day Gunship 2000. -
Razbam was working an OV-10 and had it flying in game. From what I read awhile back, it was put on the back burner until they finish other projects. I am sure it will be coming at some point.

Cowboy's (NOT a) SeaHawk UH-60a Mod (AI only)
Devil 505 replied to prccowboy's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Disregarding this post. I posted on the wrong thread. Sorry gents. -
Looking forward to the official F-4 announcement and teaser trailer! ED is finally pulling off what no other sim has managed to really nail yet, the Phantom! I grew up as a kid watching them fly with the F-14s out of Naval Air Station Dallas. VMFA-112. DEAR GO ED/BIGNEWY please make a VMFA-112 "Cowboys" livery for the old girl. I would be so honored!

This is a move in the right direction. Found a decent article about the map expansion. Here is what the map will supposedly look like. Here is the article. https://stormbirds.blog/2021/12/27/ugra-media-is-going-to-expand-dcs-normandy/ Below is a map of the Strategic bombing campaign carried out by the US and UK during the war. Note how a very good portion of those attacks were conducted within the map scale above. This is to include all heavy and medium range bombers. B-17's, 24's, 25's, 26's, Lancasters ect..... I would love to see this map continue to expand in the future, but with what we are getting now, I think it is fare to say we have plenty of room for bombers and their escorts to have fun. Here is a good photo showing the range of escort fighters during the war.
-
I have not seen the article from Bignewy, but someone on the Grim Reapers channel said he had confirmed the Channel and Normandy map were going to be combined. The Eifel Tower and London Clock Tower we saw in the 2022 and Beyond trailer further demonstrates this could be true. London to Paris and everything else around it will open up a fairly large map, more than enough for strategic bombing in a heavy or medium bomber. If you have played the Blue Nose Bastards campaign with the P-51, I find it hard to believe people say there is not enough map to utilize a heavy bomber right now in its current state. You fly escort for a squadron of B-17s in that campaign and protect them as they makes their run then egress. It is only a matter of time before we get a bomber. Might be better to start with a B-25, B-26, or A-26. Someone mentioned the C-47, its coming. Fairly certain this is going to be our cargo module. Suntsag, the guy who narrates the Mosquito videos for ED had a sneak peak of it at the end of the rockets tutorial. Video is below I really think the C-47 will be more than just AI. This will be a solid intro into two engine medium/heavy aircraft. It would be a natural transition into medium bombers then heavy from there. ED has already stated that they were wrong about there being no interest in cargo planes which is why they chose to do one. I think we will find a similar answer to medium and heavy bombers as the WW2 modules progress. And as far as multiplayer goes, if Anubis can pull off a multiplayer C-130 without the SDK by himself, I feel confident ED can accomplish any WW2 bomber in multiplayer or single player. Its coming boys, just a matter of when, not if.

Reflected, The actual button for the rockets is located on the throttle. Watch the throttle when you fire the rockets with whatever you have it bound to. Here is a video of me earlier taking the Mossie for a flight in VR and dumping all the rockets at once because I had the Salvo set to 4. Forgot to set it to station 1. VR performance is getting a lot better as well, especially on the Marianas.
-
Thanks for the tip Mad_Shell! VR with the sun looks bad ass now! Here was a quick flight with the Mossie last night. I also tested the new rockets. Forgot to change the Salvo from 4 to 1. Also shot way to far out and dumped them into the water. VR performance has increased significantly over the Marianas! No better VR sim out there than DCS.
-
Mad_Shell, Much appreciated, I will try this out now. I did not know this. Let me see how it turns out. Maybe I will post a video on here.
-
Again, not a massive request but I would like to have the Sun effect your ability to see when looking into it, maybe with/without visor down. I do not like to compare DCS to any other sim because there is no comparison in my opinion, BUT, IL-2 does a good job of utilizing the sun in VR. It actually blinds you from seeing what is coming if you are looking into it. In DCS, you look into it and there is no real affect. I think this would add higher level of difficulty as it should be, especially for WW2 modules and taking advantage of having the higher altitude. Curious about thoughts on this one.

For those who asked, I have no clue on when it will be released. I only saw it on the Lancaster Mod discord and then went to their Facebook. Beyond the screen shot and the Virtual Horsemen stating they are making it, that is all I know. Minus the 2 retards who posted they dont care about this, I figured those who like the Bearcat would enjoy knowing someone is putting some time into making one, be it a mod or full module. I am familiar with the fact it did not serve during the war, but none the less, would still look good in the Marianas, given the fact we do not have a Korean map.
-
This was some really surprising news to me. I was looking at the Lancaster mod discord and notice the Virtual Horsemen are making a F8 Bearcat mod full cockpit, EFM, systems ect. Below is a picture of the cockpit so far from their Facebook account. Looking really sharp. Going to be a nice asset for the Marianas.

This is good info indeed. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it was mentioned by Wags or Simon this year that the US Army had shown an interest in armored units and asked if ED was capable of delivering in that market. ED said it was not out of the question but gave no firm answer during the interview. I want to say the interview was probably with the Grim Reapers. Sounds like the convo has already been brought up at least in passing between ED and their Military customers.
