  1. Definitely an Improvement. Maybe for VR at least it would be better to increase the range slightly, but it’s still not horrible as it is right now. Unfortunately contrast against the sky (which is black for some reason in DCs) is poor, but against the ground they work very well.
  2. A-8 and Dora should weigh more or less the same actually. A-8 might be slightly lighter when empty but loaded and MTO weights are very similar.
  3. The 190 in DCS shouldn't sound like that.... That A/C has a russian Ash 82 engine... Only one in the world with a BMW 801 and its an A-3 I think.
  4. This might be applicable for the 'other sim' but I would think that DCS, having plenty of modern Supersonic and even the Korean war era jets already simulated would have to mean that the framework for something like this should already be in place.
  5. From the sounds of it they were having trouble finding wind tunnel and flight test data for the Thunderbolt and are having to resort to other methods of finding this data for the FM. My guess from the newsletter would be that they are doing some CFD work. Not sure if they have made FMs this way before, but if its a new approach it obviously takes a bit more time/effort.
  6. Always good to have more Servers for the WWII part of things in DCS. Out of curiosity what difficulty are the AI set to? Thanks Phil/SOW and good luck with the Server!
  7. There shouldn't be clouds anyway until ED manages to get them synchronised online.
  8. My guess is screenies are still in the model viewer so the lighting combined with WIP textures makes it look a bit strange.
  9. +1 definitely looking forward to it.
  10. What do you mean correct itself? Try and make sure you are coordinated on the rudder, and generally try and give smooth movements on the stick rather than fast/jerky yanks.
  11. Yes the AI cheats but if you can manage your energy well enough to outfight the 'cheater' then you're probably not doing too horribly. Its good for practicing clean, no mistakes flying when you don't have humans to go fight against, but obviously it makes the same moves every time and is quite predictable because of this.
  12. On the higher difficulties the AI can actually be quite good training in some ways. But as you say the best way is to practice against real people online. Even better if you find someone who knows what they’re doing to help you along the way.
  13. JG4 doesn’t really fly much DCS as far as I’ve seen. I’ve never flown SOW and it seems like a cool concept but I don’t think it’s that full usually....... As you said BS is usually about it at the moment. Like Birdstrike said you or anyone else who is interested are more than welcome to drop by and say hi to us at 9./JG27. If you’d like the TS details feel free to Pm me.
  14. They didn't mention anything about W.Grs but since they are already in on the Dora theres no reason they shouldn't be in on the A-8. Although it is DCS so who knows... If not having access to real aircraft was a killer, we wouldn't have half the aircraft we have. Even if the aircraft were in exactly the same condition as operational aircraft almost 80 years ago (weight, CG pos, Weapons, Engine limitations etc etc etc etc) they still are not using them to gather any sort of flight/performance data. I would think for any 3D work it would be better to rely on original drawings as well. I'm sure it has its uses. But probably the expertise of the people working on/with the aircraft is more important. Pilots and Maintainers who have worked on the aircraft have knowledge of how certain things work in detail, and probably have access to alot of the documentation that would be useful in creating a DCS module. A lot of this stuff certainly goes along with having access to a real aircraft, but doesn't necessarily require it.
  15. There are a couple of A-8s around, but AFAIK none with original engines. The only one with a BMW engine is an A-5. Either way judging from the various forum discussions over the years, having access to the real aircraft doesn't seem to be as important as some people think it is. It's not like they're conducting flight tests with these aircraft. Access to manufacturer and or operator documentation seems to be more important.
  16. No, but they don't have a 109 either. In fact they don't appear to have any German aircraft. According to Yo-Yo at least, ED has access to the Smithsonian archives, which have lots of data about German aircraft which were captured during/after the war. So lack of data doesn't appear to be an issue as far as German planes goes.
  17. AFAIK all you should have to do is set the field to the same side as the A/C and then be within whatever the radius/boundaries of the airfield for it to work. Either way, it should work with the keybind, regardless of location or mission setup.
  18. Well it should still work with the radio if setup properly but its generally much less hassle to just have it bound. Haven't used the radio in a long time though so maybe ED broke it in the new patch, anything is possible in DCS...
  19. Key bind is called "Signal Starter Crew" IIRC.
  20. Flyable doesn't necessarily mean full. May be FC 3 level (Flying legens pack).
  21. There is a min RPM for firing the MG's. Otherwise you put extra holes in the prop.
  22. Well David can't really answer anymore but the F-4 is is favorite version of his favorite airplane. I think if they made it in DCS he'd probably never leave his PC again. In all seriousness the F-4 is regarded by many real world and Sim world 109 Pilots as the best version of the 109. The perfect combination of Engine and Airframe. IMO an earlier time period of Channel air Combat would be awesome for DCS. Spit V vs F and early G 109s, maybe even Razorback P-47s. Unfortunately with the rate at which DCS development happens it makes more sense to stick to the time period we already have though. Even then I would still fly an F-4 against the aircraft we have now if they made it!
  23. AI assets are cool and all but doesn’t help having more of them if they cause so many problems in MP. They still cause massive performance issues and I think even though you could finally see flak bursts in mp a few patches ago they seem to have disappeared again.
  24. Nope not april fools. Coyote confirmed it in the Russian forum section. All we know so far is that it will be a "standard" version with 2xMG131 and 4xMG151 and that it will recieve an entirely new cockpit (ie 3d model will be made from scratch and not adapted from the Dora). My guess is it will be part of the "Flying Legends" Pack Nick Grey mentioned together with the Mosquito. Hopefully they will do the G-6 as well.
