Yes, that much is obvious. But, in ED's case, governments are clumsy things at the best of times, so a good third party is needed here. I would think so, too. The Tu-95 is absolutely tragic.

It was a joke. There aren't any apparent plans for future MiG-21 variants at this time that are publicly known.

And, once more, there could be aspects about even those fighters that are classified to this day. The USSR was famously paranoid and this kind of stuff can get lost in oceans of paperwork. They don't have an expiration date, unfortunately. Sucks, but that's how it is. At least, for ED's side of the equation. They've made it clear that 3rd parties might be much more able. If only it were that simple.

The Fulcrum is a Cold War aircraft. We can't simply judge the availability of information based on the era in which an aircraft served. For many governments and defense groups, classification doesn't have an expiration date. Meaning, there are aspects of aircraft out of service right now and have been out of service for decades that could still be classified simply because that paperwork is lost in an ocean of folders and filing cabinets. ED received a similar answer about the MiG-23 years ago. RAZBAM, however, is not subject to Russian law. That's the important part. The people running these organizations have one job and catering to us nerds is not part of it, sadly. Realistically, all that can be done is inquire.

We're talking about a developer who has multiple releases. Delays happen, they honestly do. As I said, never believe in a release window unless it's pretty specific instead of something as vague as a year. Why they haven't made a statement about it, yet? I can't say. Probably because it'd just confirm what we already know, really. At any rate, I'd rather F-4E drop in 2023 than get another F-16 release debacle.

Yes, I think everyone's aware of that particular oopsie. But, there's a difference between getting the unfavorable civil attention of the US DoD and getting it from the RF MoD.

All work on it has ceased, as far as we know. And, just because we have a great deal of access to something doesn't mean it's unclassified in the eyes of the government bodies involved. The reason for the cessation of work is probably because many members of ED's team would be vulnerable to prosecution by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Yes, we have quite a bit of access to the MiG-29's in's and out's. In our view, it may as well be unclassified, but the Russian MoD could very well disagree. Whether it makes sense or not is irrelevant to the lawmakers and enforcement involved. But, according to ED, this may not apply to third party developers that aren't subject to the RuMoD.
