  1. I realize that the response is going to be "We do not officially support Linux" and "Don't necro threads" but I'm going to add my name to the list anyway. As a Linux user with a Valve Index headset and a NVIDIA GPU, I can't run OpenXR games. The nvidia drivers are just not there yet. I've tried both SteamVR's OpenXR Runtime as well as Monado's OpenXR Runtime, neither one can get further than the main menu before immediately crashing. However, the ST version with OpenVR + SteamVR works fine, it just performs very poorly because it's single threaded. I know OpenXR is the future but considering you already have support for OpenVR + SteamVR in the ST version I would also love to see it supported in the MT version so I could finally play in VR again.
  2. So I took the new Gazelle out for about an hour last night and wanted to say thank you for updating the FM. I honestly did not expect it to happen before the Kiowa and I'm thrilled that you decided to do it. Previously my biggest issues were the control hypersensitivity and the way it held bank like a fixed wing aircraft. Both of those have been dealt with; It now flies like a helicopter should, and that's so awesome. For the first time I'm able to fly around the streets of Beirut and keep it between all the light posts without any trouble. I also found myself in VRS by surprise a couple times Nice work on the update, seriously. With that said, there are a couple things I noticed that don't seem quite right to me that you might already be aware of... 1. The Gazelle should require some aft and right cyclic in a hover with calm winds, right? Well, right now it requires aft and left cyclic, but wants to roll right so hard that it still hangs right skid low. Something is generating a lot of right roll that probably shouldn't be. **Edit** Apparently this is correct. It just struck me as unusual for a clockwise rotating helicopter. 2. The engine still seems to be able to spool up and meet any demand I place on it instantaneously. Like, if I'm sitting on the ground and go from 0 to 100% collective in a split second, it should cause a significant drop in rotor RPM while the engine spools up and tries to deal with the increased demand, but instead the rotor RPM is maintained and it just launches straight up. Oh, and unrelated to the FM, but the rotor disc sound seems to have a Flanging Effect that is really clearly audible, at least to my ears. Dunno if there's anything you can do about it but I don't hear it in the other helis. Overall I think it's a really nice update and makes the Gazelle so much more enjoyable to fly, but there are some smaller issues that would be nice to get ironed out in future patches.
  3. Thank you! I'm trying to find time to work on new ones but this summer has been *crazy*. That's funny that the site says 2016 because I purchased it in 2014 and made videos with it that year lol. If you google the mi-8 release date you'll get 2013 so my guess is typo on the site?
  4. The Hip was released in 2013, not 2016. So yea. It will likely be a full 10 years before the Hip gets multicrew, but with the ability to switch seats online finally implemented the way is finally paved for the Mi-8 to get multicrew without killing its usefulness online. So here's hoping!
  5. Hey, glad you found my tutorials. I learned a lot about the module while I was making them, and over the last couple years it seems they have helped a lot of people; That's awesome. The Tactical DCS discord has channels with resources and tutorials for every module, you might have some luck looking through there to see what kinds of content people have shared or recommended.
  6. Controls Indicator mods are breaking IC now also. A couple examples, - Mi-8 https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317792/ - Mi-24 https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317045/ This kind of mod exists for several other modules too. It makes the background of the controls indicator overlay transparent so it's not so obvious and in your face, plus easier to read in some cases. In the Mi-8 it also hides the autopilot overlay in the other corner, which takes up a lot of space and arguably serves limited purpose. You could make these mods irrelevant by building in some options to customize these overlays, including things like foreground and background color, transparency, position, size, and options to hide things like the AP overlay. This becomes apparently only when trying to slot into an affected module, as IC shield is green until then.
  7. I actually made a video on RBS back in 2014 and noted the same thing back then as well. This has been around for a *long* time. Would be nice to see it get fixed one day.
  8. Yea, that's something I covered in my first impressions video. It sounds like the real hind provides very little feedback during transverse flow, but I still interpret that as "more than nothing at all" which is what we have now. So at the moment yea, you're pretty reliant on your instruments to know when the right time to start feeding collective back in is.
  9. First of all I want to say thank you Razbam for listening to the community and taking our feedback to heart. But I do want to clear one thing up: > But this decision, based on the facts stated before, overlooked the fact that some of our customers liked the idea or are fond of using said missile. This is not the right way to look at it. > Having said that, it has been decided to keep the weapon to better represent early 2000s AV-8B N/A capabilities to give the freedom to the player to fly realistic mid 2010s loadouts or not. This is. The fact remains that the IR Maverick was tested and cleared for use on the Harrier, it *was* used operationally, and even if certain groups decided to stop using it the jet is still approved for its use. My preference has always been to look at DCS as not having to be confined to operational guidelines but by whatever is technically possible for the airframe. Let mission creators and pilots themselves decide how operationally accurate they want to be with their loadouts. Maybe Razbam can help us pressure ED into improving the store limitations side of things, because right now it's not even possible for us to detect if a plane has a targeting pod attached. The warehouse functionality is opaque to the scripting environment and breaks every time a new weapon is added. Servers that currently restrict loadouts have to do it by destroying the plane or other hackish workarounds because there is no proper way to limit weapons per slot or per airframe. Anyway, keeping the IR mavs was a good decision in my view. DCS frequently requires us to shoehorn modules into different time periods and the primary way we do that is by restricting weapons. Keeping IR Mavs around allows us to better do that in the Harrier. So thank you.
  10. I want to say thank you to people like John, Casmo, RedKite, Steinsch, and the many others who have been making Hind tutorial videos. You guys are awesome and I can't wait to blatantly copy get inspiration from your videos when I get around to making my own Speaking of which, I have two videos in progress for the Mi-8 that I need to finish first, and then I'll be starting on Hind stuff. Still not entirely sure where to start with the series, but we'll figure something out.
  11. I've been working on a tutorial for exactly this in the Mi-8. Not everything will transfer to the Hind but it will probably help. It's the number one thing people tell me they struggle with. -
  12. I appreciate the support. I tried really hard to make it clear I wasn't trying to whine and complain. My experience with the Hind has been really positive, but I see a lot of value in laying out a clear picture of the module's shortcomings both to help buyers and to make it known which issues I care most about in case it helps ED decide on priorities. It was also an opportunity to highlight longstanding shortcomings with the sim itself, like mirrors, which could be improved as part of working on the Hind. I wasn't sure what kind of reception it would get but I'm blown away by how positive it has been. So thanks everyone!
  13. Unless I am mistaken, there is no solo flight option in the mission editor. At least, I could not find one. So unless someone can tell me where it is, no you cannot switch seats in MP. You are locked into the pilot seat.
  14. - Tutorial missions - SAR Server - Low Level Hell - Syria at War Armed Recon - Persian Gulf at War Logistics - Private Sandbox Missions - Campaigns? Probably mostly that stuff. And a lot of solo time spent practicing different things or just flying it for the sake of flying it and enjoying the scenery or taking screenshots. Yea, the state of ground units in DCS kinda sucks and limits our ability to make realistic scenarios for the Hind, or even use it properly in many cases. But I'll find ways to keep myself entertained I think.
  15. The Hoggit servers used to allow CA and it was glorious. It added a whole new level of depth to helicopter gameplay. Then they removed it because of the above cited trolling problems, and now the only viable offensive ground units are artillery because they have enough range to hit things without moving. It kinda sucks. A lot. I support this thread 100%
  16. So I got an answer from 9L on reddit. Not lookin' good. Basically he doesn't think there will be a press build but after sending him the link I posted above he's going to ask Kate about it. Guess we'll hear back at some point. https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/niszfn/dcs_mi24p_hind_introduction/gz4e5ed/?context=3
  17. "Yes, ED commits to giving all future modules to independent reviewers one week prior to the Early Access review." Seems pretty clear to me. @BIGNEWY or @NineLine can we get confirmation that the Hind will be going out to third parties for review prior to release?
  18. The assumption when they say "Q2" is that first you ask "of which year?" and then you assume it will release on the last Wednesday of that quarter. So in 2021 that's June 30. Kate has committed that all modules will go out to "Independent Reviewers" at least one week ahead of launch, and often times there are some lead-in videos from Wags as well. Plus we should get a newsletter the Friday before it releases confirming the plan. So at least in my opinion it's safe to wait. See what the YouTubers say about it and then get your pre-order in on the Monday before it releases if you're happy with what you see. That's my plan anyway.
  19. People like rurounijones have a greater impact on the community than I think anyone realizes. He and others like him are creating and enhancing game functionality to make things better for the community, but they can't do that if you don't enable them. Opening up more of the game to the scripting interface will do wonders for the community. I know it's hard to go back and create APIs for existing functionality, but it makes a ton of sense to create them for features that are new and in progress. Build APIs as you build the feature and let us create cool things for the community. I support this request fully.
  20. Yea, this is absolutely correct. If Mi-8 Multicrew cannot be implemented in a way that allows solo players to still swap seats online then I would not want it at all; It would effectively kill my ability to use this helicopter in a multiplayer scenario without a human crew. For example, a typical mission in the Mi-8 for me looks something like this: Startup - Middle seat Nav Prep - Right Seat Takeoff - Left Seat Transit - Right Seat Any combat - Left seat Landing - Left Seat Shutdown - Middle Seat I move around a lot. I make use of having two course select knobs to keep track of different things. If you lock a pilot into the left seat here are some things they will struggle with (Some of them are straight up inaccessible from the left seat): - Tuning the radio nav - Powering on and tuning the R-282 VHF Radio (Often used for Interflight online) - Powering on and tuning the Jadro-1A Radio - Powering on and configuring countermeasures - Using the NS-430 in the dash - Reaching the electrical panels, external lights, doppler brightness, and other switches used during startup - Reading the exterior air temp thermometer - Startup becomes a real pain in the butt - Navigate with the DISS-15 Doppler - Read realtime drift angles - Read and configure the fuel gauge Even with bindings, not being able to see the R-828, Jadro-1A, or CMS panels makes them unusable. Pilots in 2D might be able to zoom in and "make the best of it", but in VR it will be that much harder to read anything because of low resolution. A solo pilot cannot navigate or defend themselves properly, they cannot plan their flight, they cannot communicate properly. If locked into the right side you'd struggle with - Using weapons without a gunsight (Kind of important) - Navigating with the ARK-UD - Knowing your collective pitch in degrees - Using signal flares I'm sure I'm forgetting things on both sides even. Almost nothing in that cockpit is duplicated. Ultimately there is a reason this helicopter has a crew of three, and that makes it a perfect candidate for multicrew! But it also means that we cannot sacrifice the ability to hop seats at any time when flying alone. So please, ED, when it comes time to work on this, find a solution that works for solo pilots playing online too.
  21. Yep, you got it. Wish I had known this when I did my trim tutorial. Center Mode and Rudder Trim don't play nice together. Glad you figured it out!
  22. That's my big concern as well. I switch seats a lot in MP and if I lose that ability it will really kill my enthusiasm to fly it online. They have to find a solution where solo pilots can swap seats in MP for this to work.
  23. That would be wonderful. I do have plans to re-do some of these videos and I will include things I have learned since I originally recorded them. If you want to just post here for everyone to read that seems like the quickest way to get the info.out there, and gives me an easy way to find it all. Thank you!
  24. You guys have it figured out, but more or less to summarize, - The slip ball will tell you when you are coordinated, but it does not account for the drift caused by your tail rotor. It cannot detect it. - If you want to fly coordinated and straight you need to fly a few degrees right of your intended heading to counteract the drift. - If you want to fly straight and don't need to be coordinated your slip ball will rest on the line right of center. Now if you flip over to the pilot navigator's side, - The doppler drift gauge will show you the difference in your heading (the direction you are pointed) and your track (the direction you are moving). - "Kick the needle" with your pedals until it is centered and cancel any bank it induces with cyclic roll. - Centering that needle will put you out of coordinated flight, but you'll be flying a true heading. - If you stay coordinated and leave the needle left of center, the number it reads is how many degrees to the right you should adjust your heading to compensate. Which is better? Which do real world pilots do typically? I don't honestly know. I assume they probably fly coordinated for comfort / economy reasons and just adjust their headings, but I'm not a real world pilot so I can only guess.
  25. I'd be interested in doing a cold start video with the more realistic checklist once it's complete. Less of a tutorial and more of an "in case you're interested..." kind of thing. With full credits to everyone in this thread of course.
