I don't think that the shape of the ground surface has too much impact on the performance with the recent GPUs. The objects like trees buildings roads and its LOD distances, shadows and textures affect the performance much much more. I think the most demanding for the GPU in DCS is flying over areas with lots of building roads and other object like trees and vehicles . If you fly to a place with mountains without any object but trees in sight it is just as smooth as flying above a flat ground with the same view.

Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I have watched the track. I don't get the problem. It seems you hit and destroyed the target so what was the issue? -
Weapon against moving convoy in narrow valley?
Sharkh replied to Spathiphyllum's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I am afraid to play any multi in DCS for now. I am just messing around in single player for a while I guess with different planes so I don't have to worry about I do something stupid affecting the gameplay of others. I have the game since 2014 but I have only started to put a bit more effort in learning some planes so I feel its too early to play MP on my level. But maybe in the future I will try it. Thanks for the invite anyway. :D edit: Did you try the Arak? -
Weapon against moving convoy in narrow valley?
Sharkh replied to Spathiphyllum's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I have just tested Arak and High drag(M/71) bombs on an armored convoy and Jowen was right about the explosion radius that even though my bombs exploded on the road on a tight formation convoy very close to the vehicles and the smoke was so huge that I thought I killed almost everything than I was surprised when I saw a single kill :D on the mission result screen. I've managed only one or two kill with these bombs because their damage radius seems small (I am not sure if its realistic or not) while with arak armor piercing I could easily manage to achieve higher kill counts. (3-4) I guess 5-6 is possible on a convoy in close formation if you set your flight path properly. edit: Your should try Arak long range mode. In theory its less accurate but It gave me better result firing the rockets from higher distance on the convoy in my custom mission . The other "positive" effect(fun factor) of this mode you can see the impact better. -
Weapon against moving convoy in narrow valley?
Sharkh replied to Spathiphyllum's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Maybe its just me but I think it would be a pain and almost impossible to find and lock any target on a road with forest around with an RB-75 and the Viggen instrument for this weapon even they are standstill but if you like the challenge you can try it. ON a map like Nevada I would use it. (RB-75 is basically the swedish version of the AGM-65 Maverick you have to set QFE than lock the ground target using its "unique" sight instrument of the Viggen for this weapon than shoot :D ) -
Weapon against moving convoy in narrow valley?
Sharkh replied to Spathiphyllum's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I am not an expert Viggen pilot but after I have tried and learned most of the weapons and systems on a basic level I would say I would use ARAK for a mission like this with high-explosive or armour-piercing warheads. I found that ARAK is the best weapon that can be use "ad hoc" with visual target acquisition beside the gun pod. My other choice would be BK90 on a straight road but it would require a lot of planning I should predict the exact time of the convoy to reach a specific point (set TID ) on the road than overfly it just before they get there and do a manual own position fix above the road target waypoint than I would fly away about 15km make a turn position my flight path paralel with and above the road and release the BK90 the right time (proper QFE set, "long line" program). The 2nd option would need a lot of practice and planning but I guess this option could do the most damage to a convoy. But I think realistically using ARAK (or gun pod?)can be the "easiest" and the best while its also need a lot of practice to be used effectively and doing significant damage to a convoy would require a couple of flyby I guess. -

"Nordic Fire" - Giving some video love to the Viggen
Sharkh replied to unipus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
This could have been the alternative teaser of the Viggen before it came out. :D Well done! -
Hooks, cables, steam catapult… when we have RM-8A and Thrust reverser. Well done! :D

I know its the final mission . I just wanted to save the replay and be lucky with it (so its accurate) to check it how precise my shot was. :D I love watching the replays because this plane looks and sounds so beautiful to me. Beside I felt that the campaign waypoints and the direction of the flight was designed with care so the time of the day is set perfectly to maximize the immersion with sunsets ,sunrise and nice lighting . One more reason to watch the replays. Whoever set the time of the day and the locations I must say well done!
-
I am enjoying this campaign also and it really feels it was designed with care but the 5th campaign mission (bridge target with arak) is crashing my game on exit (5 times out of 5 try) so I can't finish it. :( Have anyone had this?
-
I haven't tried it but there is an English cockpit mod. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2400126/ edit: too slow :D

I bought it at summer sale 50% off and since than I've played this plane exclusively and now I feel it was a steal . -60%? Bank robbery! :D

What is the standard procedure for QFE setting under normal fli
Sharkh replied to hideki2's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I guess you can use "terrain avoidance mode" (manual page 117) . I am not sure is that a campaign mission? -
What is the standard procedure for QFE setting under normal fli
Sharkh replied to hideki2's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I guess its that you set the QFE of your starting airfield and keep your planned altitude relative to that location or you just use QNH and set your altitude relative to the sea level. I don't think that there is a point to change qfe on the fly unless you wanna attack something on the ground with weapons what needs accurate height data. If you wanna keep the same height from the ground at your actual location you can still switch the altitude source to RHM and try to keep your desired height by watching the hud and make manual adjustments if needed. But Its just my opinion and the way I am doing it but I am just an amateur simmer so I can be wrong. :D I only change QFE during a "peaceful flight" if my destination airfield is different than the starting one so a new QFE has to be set for landing. -
Thanks for the answer. I find it its an interesting feature of the plane but I can understand if its not on the top of the priority list . I hope it will be there and complete when the module left its early access status.
-
Hi, I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or this feature of the plane is not complete. So I have read the Reconaissance parts of the manual and I am trying learn to use it in the first mission in the campaign included in this module. I entered the RUTA (Patrol square) reference numbers given by the briefing of the mission and it seems its stored and when get to the patrol area and switch to "SPA" master mode with Radar mode "A1" I can identify the RUTA square on the radar screen but when I switch between the corner points by using the "B1-B4" buttons they are marked as "M1-M4(white)" on the destination indicator while according to the manual it should be displayed with a "R1-R4" . Than I have tried to (T1-TV) fix the ships inside the patrol square and thats supposed to store these fixes as "M1-M9"(red) according to the manual but It seems its does not work for me. Am I missing something here or this feature is not working yet? Thanks

Was I an idiot to buy the Normandy Map?
Sharkh replied to filthymanc's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Hmm...Maybe its just me but It does not look too cartoonish to me but kinda the opposite I find it the most realistic looking map . Maybe its a screen or its settings. I am playing on a big screen "high end"(used to be in 2011 lol) plasma TV and the colors are almost feels the same I can see in real life flying above a lush forest and green fields. My nephew has a 120HZ expensive (recent tech) led gaming screen and its colortones just looks aweful to me compared to this TV . So who knows . -
I have just bought the viggen a few weeks ago and I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos they are very helpful. Well Done!
-
Its interesting because the schoolgirl(lol) instructor in the takeoff training already says it has to be set to 3 nose up.
-
Thanks for the reply but its was a bug that the MW-50 did not work. They have fixed it in the latest patch.
-
I have the same problem . Crashing (CTD) on loading at every 2nd mission.
-
I have just bought this modul a week ago and I just found this topic. I thought its normal but I have the same experience that the engine failure using MW-50 seems totally random. Sometimes I can use it for 10+ minute sometimes the engine stops after a 1-2min. Every temperature and pressure displayed within normal range on the indicators. But strangely I have never seen the MW-50 pressure indicator moving its always at 0 Is this normal?
-
The MW-50 indicator of my Dora is always at 0 with the MW-50 switch turned on. Do I have to turn something else on to activate MW-50? Also I don't feel any significant boost when climbing if I turn it on although the sound of the engine changes and the ata goes higher. I didn't notice it at first but now I wanna do the climbing campaign challenge for the dora and after a few failed attempt I thought I might need some extra power. Any tip for this challenge might be also helpful. I keep failing the mission because about 5800-6000 meter I always ran out of time. Thanks edit: Ok so I realized MW-50 might got a few bug in the latest patch and its already reported . I guess I have to wait for a fix to be able to go on..

"piano from the 7th floor" I have experienced this effect at my first few landing trainings with the dora in DCS so I guess this effect has been perfectly simlulated because it exactly feels like a "piano from the 7th floor". :D I have just watched this interview for the first time but I have to say when he talks about the landing and takeoff about his real experience with this plane its like he is talking about how the dora works I have flown in the past few days in DCS. Nice interview it was very entertaining. Well done! edit: where is the part 2?
