Want to buy the Hog. What else do I need?
Kippy replied to TaktLwG 73 Steinhoff's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah, you're forgetting a keyboard bindings print. You've got everything you NEED to fly the Pig, but I can promise that a T. Flight Stick X will be an uncomfortable stick to use. Not having HOTAS capability truly limits yourself. Having a HOTAS set will allow you to manipulate systems much much faster than with keyboard commands. Now you've said that you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a stick, so I'll assume the TM Warthog is out of the question, If you've got the change to spare, find a used Saitek X-55. They've got everything you'll need to get the job done. Plus it's a twisty stick, so you're not required to buy rudder pedals. https://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Flight-Rhino-Throttle-System/dp/B00HHAIY72 -
I personally think an E-2 would be perfect for DCS, and could open doors towards the idea that not every aircraft in DCS has to make things go boom. It would be interesting to see more aircraft of the sort. I would fly the E-2 for sure.

The A-10 'Warthog' just got a little more badass

Holy hell, that statement at the end. I could not agree more.

Didn't seem to work. Good idea though. Thanks Interesting - how exactly should this trigger be set up? I see it in the ME, and it does seem like the thing we're looking for - however you're right, it probably doesn't work. Oh well. I guess we can try what we can and if not, cross our fingers that ED will get it working one of these days. Thanks

Doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion though That's actually a fantastic idea. Let me give it a shot.

I'd like to get some A-10s to spawn on the ramp in this state; with all the service bays and the canopy open, as well as the boarding ladder extended. Is it possible? Or do they have to land and go through shut-down? Was just wondering. Thanks

Absolutely fantastic work!

Simply put, your dive isn't steep enough. The closer you are to the target, the steeper your dive will be, and the more accurate the bomb will be. If you want to achieve a shallow dive, start the dive further away from the target. If you want to achieve a steep dive, start the dive closer to the target. Check out this graphic, it will show you just a typical run for both Japanese and Allied bombers during WW2 in Anti-ship operations. I find that this method works for the A-10C, and I use 50-60 degrees and tend to drop the bomb around 2,500-3,500AGL.

I've got a whole list of mods that I use for both 2.0 and 1.5 for the A-10C. Personally, I seek realism therefore a lot of the mods you see will be oriented to that. Ricardo's Horse of War, mentioned by Sage. I personally cannot fly without this cockpit re-texture for the A-10C. It makes the A-10's cockpit feel like a real aircraft that has seen many hours of use. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1562558/ Starway's textures, also mentioned by Sage. Another great addon that looks much better than anything else available in my opinion. https://starwayblog.wordpress.com/ A-10 real sound done by -243HT-Raptor, this is another must-have for Hog drivers. Truly puts character into the sounds of the aircraft, mostly the engines and gear retraction/extension. The TF34 sounds absolutely stunning with this mod; she growls and whines just like she does in real life. I have one complaint though; the gun sounds are awful. See the mod below. EDIT: Can't post lockonfiles links? Can be found there. Just search "Real Sound DCS A-10C" I personally also combined the real sound mod with Ga-Bika's GAU-8 sounds, which I think are the absolute best available and really capture the GAU-8s sound. It sounds great from external views. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1353325/ Next up is the 476th Weapon repaint. Doesn't change much, just retextures mostly Mavericks to appear as they're commonly seen today. http://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=388 Mk-82 platform mod. Again, reskinning weapons as they're seen today. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1759307/?sphrase_id=4066738 Diveplane's heat blur mod. A nice touch of realism. EDIT: Can't post lockonfiles links? Can be found there. Just search "DCS WORLD 1.5 2.0 HEAT BLUR MOD 1.0 1.0.0." Unfortunately, I'm not sure where I got this next mod from, so I'm unable to credit the author. I did upload it to my mediafire account, but please understand this is not my work.It lengthens the smoke left by destroyed aircraft and also ground targets, which frankly, by default, is just too short. Some Smoke columns can be long and visible for quite a long ways when flying. https://www.mediafire.com/?zv3h15owkj1bt1h HD TGP Mod, reskins the TGP to have hi-def textures on the pod. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1759300/ That's all I've got for now, but I'm always actively seeking new mods. I'll post back if I find anything else that's good.

In my experiences, the L-39 handles like an airliner as to other jets in DCS. She does not like to slow down or get down all too fast - even with speedbrakes. Takes more precise stick and rudder work during maneuvers. She likes to shake. However, quoting doodenkoff, she "is a hoot" to fly for sure. When I first installed DCS back in 2014, I was sure the most fun would be found dispatching tanks and planes alike to their doom. But in all honestly, I find myself just cruising over Nevada in the A-10C and L-39 more than I find myself in combat missions. The L-39 is a must have. Like WildBillKelsoe said, it's a fantastic learning tool and a genuine joy to fly.

Yes, when you're in the TAD, find the "NET" option on the right hand side. You can then set a group ID and a own ID. Make sure your group ID is the same as your buddies, and then set own IDs. Own ID's don't really matter (just make sure your own ID's arent the same)- as long as you're in the same group, the other A-10s will appear purple on the TAD instead of green, making them much easier to find. Of course the JTRS must be on. EDIT: Ninja'd by JazonXD

Who has recieved baackseat L-39C Instruction?
Kippy replied to viperdogsnake's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
The L-39 is a must have module. There is a fairly decent number of people in DCS who understand the basics of aviation; lesser known things to many casual DCS players. (such as traffic patterns, overhead joins, etc) The L-39 allows the experienced simmers to pass this knowledge on to more casual simmers. I have taken three people up in my L-39C as "students" so far, and I was just amazed at what a great learning tool it was for them. One of these said "students" has nearly twice the time I have in the A-10, but didn't know how to fly a traffic pattern. Unfortunately, feefifofum is correct, the people who would be benefited the most by the L-39 tend to shy away towards combat modules. I wish this wasn't true. The casual crowd is here to have fun, but the L-39 offers fun as well as a learning experience for nearly every flight. I don't think the casual crowd really knows this yet. -
Yeldraw, Sorry about that, I kinda dropped off the face of the earth for a bit. I've resent the email again, just to be sure, and I'm ready to fly. Apologies Kippy

Werewolf's Re-Heat Afterburner Mod (DCS 1.5)
Kippy replied to Werewolf1025's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Looks Great! Nice work Werewolf. I've been looking for a nice afterburner mod. Too bad I don't often find myself in jets with afterburners... But I'll take the F-15 out for a few swings over the next few days for this. -
Strange. I will resend it. Thanks

Added. Lets fly some time. Yeldraw, email sent. Let's fly some time.

Thoughts on in cockpit camera adjustment
Kippy replied to jasonstory44's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi Jason, have you tried pausing TrackIR first? Kippy -
Bunraku, I've found that the easiest way to keep track of convoys or moving targets is to maintain distance, which will allow the TGP a wider view of the area surrounding the convoy. If a lock is lost, hopefully a wider view will allow you regain sight of the target faster. If you're escorting a friendly convoy/object, I simply recommend being low, closer to the convoy/object if able. This will allow you to hopefully see the convoy, and react to any threats quickly. If you struggle with things of this sort, grab a few friends and give the mission "FOB Vetka" a go. Vetka is one of the most fun missions out there, and it's good practice for tracking a convoy, and acquiring and engaging targets visually.

GAU-8/A and MK108 Shell tweaking/modding
Kippy replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yep, here to report an issue. Upon activating the mod in JSGME, the game simply decides it won't launch. Running 1.5.3.5.1218. I will provide some more info once I get home, I'll see if it generates a crash log. -
Poll: which guide would you be interested in next?

Show the 10 Charlie some love. :) -
Woah diddly.... I didn't even think people would pay attention to this. I guess I underestimated things.... Well, I'll try to answer all of your questions. Missions/Day Times: Well, we don't have too tight of a schedule. If we do get some more guys in the squad, we'll all sit down and discuss a proper schedule on mission times, training nights, etc. After all, we want to be flexible and offer schedules that work for our pilots. Right now, our primary event is every Friday night starting at 9PM Eastern we run a scenario mission. The point of the scenario mission is to emulate a realistic modern-battle feel, and the missions are often designed by myself or Mar. My missions tend to have a complex plot, one that could easily occur in real life and often times the plot includes more than 1 mission. (ex. A plot about Georgia invading Southern Russia may go on for several scenario nights and multiple missions) What aircraft we fly: We fly everything! It doesn't matter, if you fly it, then we want you! Fast movers especially! I've also started work on the website for adding an F-18 unit, but of course we can't push that into the actual website until DCS actually releases the F-18. Also, the F-14 is a huge yes for the 122nd! If you plan on flying the hell out of the F-14 like I do upon it's release, Come on over! :smilewink: Server list: I'm currently working on getting the 122nd a dedicated serer with a 24/7 uptime that will run missions for a lot of players. This is proving to be difficult as designing big missions that include all kinds of aircraft is a major pain in the fanny. While I love the missions the 104th server runs, and the 104th really is a great server, I want the 122nd dedicated server to be unique. Thus, we will run our own missions. The 122nd server may not go up for some time though, as I want to make sure my missions work and are fun for all aircraft. Thus being said, I need testers! PM me for info! Other than that, our servers are usually up 9PM Eastern to 1:30AM Eastern Friday Nights. How we operate: The 122nd is rather laid back on the ground. We often find ourselves chatting in Teamspeak when not flying, posting on the 122nd's forums, etc. But in the air, the fun and games are over. We take everything seriously when we fly. PM me for more info on this as well. Well, I hope that answers some questions! Feel free to keep posting on this thread, and I'll be sure to watch it closely this time around.
