Hello all, first of all, I love how beautifully you modelled the Hornet in DCS! It is really outstanding and getting better and better. One thing I noticed is that on the real Hornet, the flaps retract diffferently than on the DCS Hornet. On the real Hornet, the ailerons are "lagging behind" the inner trailing edge flaps on retraction during the transition from HALF to AUTO position. This can be seen well in this video sequence, watch the outer (aileron) flaps, they are more slowly retracting up than the inner main flaps, eventually the ailerons retract fully but the main flap is down by a few degrees depending on the flight parameters, which again is correctly simulated on the DCS Hornet. https://youtu.be/hG8J06vhqbE Furthermore, it would be a nice touch if the elevons would droop down (to a nose-down-trim attitude) within 2 minutes after engine shutdown like on the real bird due to the drop of hydraulic pressure. In DCS, when I park and shutdown the jet, elevons stay up at the nose-up attitude indefinately. I am not sure with this observation and readily stand corrected if I am wrong with this. Thanks for listening, love the DCS Hornet!

Dear ED devs, would it be possible to include an option to choose this helmet/mask gear combo for your future Viper and Hornet pilot models? https://nara.getarchive.net/media/an-f-16-fighting-falcon-pilot-prepares-for-takeoff-during-exercise-cobra-gold-90484e It would really add to the authenticity of the visuals when flying both birds with repaints of the late 80's/early 90's timeframe. THANKS A TON for considering!

Me too! Cold-War era all the way...

As the title says. What are the chances there will be the original A-10A for DCS World? Has this ever been mentioned or considered before? Thanks for the feedback!

The sierra hotel carrier break. Aggressive TOP GUN trap
RhineHornet replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Interesting video, though I think there's lots of room for improvement. You touched down / trapped with 236 knots? Uh..oh... -
Yes, topside color (and markings on underside) is painted in FS35237 greyish Blue. As far as I can tell from the recent RCAF skin screenshots, the devs/livery painters of ED took that into account nicley. USN and USMC Hornets generally have the lighter Ghost grey colors applied.

@hughlb did you see my post above? I did some more research and I am 99% sure that sign you're looking for reads as follows:
-
Could it be that it has the same text as shown in the dashed-line box painted below the LEX? It reads like "WARNING STATIC CHARGE HAZARD" and three more lines which I cannot recognize, too low resolution. Here's the closeup I made my above conclusion from: http://aviationspottersonline.com/30th-anniversary-hornet-scheme-walk-around-2/#gallery/a1dbcac2ed97c4d377dcca72b81b54ae/22159

Most skillful Hornet carrier landing I've seen yet!

Few years ago I was told by an active Swiss Hornet driver that for performing the piourette all he has to do is fly at the proper speed, attitude and slam the controls (full aft stick and aileron and full rudder in direction of aileron input) and all of the magic is done by the computer. Hmm.
-
Thanks BIGNEWY, didn't see that option at first. Yay... Preordered! :)

Uhm.... was going to go for the pre-purchase of the beloved Hornet, but... are there any other payment methods available besides credit card? Hmm... :(

F/A-18 3d model in obj format for skinning
RhineHornet replied to BlizzardCA's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Which symbols/markings of the RCAF CF-188's are you talking about? Do you mean the F.I.P. era markings? Just curious... -
From the F/A-18 A/B/C/D manual: page 124 - 2.8.2.7 Flight Control Computers (FCC). I believe SV1 and SV2 stands for "SERVO VALVES" or simply "SERVO"(1 and 2) respectively?

Cool, thanks SiThSpAwN!

Not using DCS yet, though I was wondering, does the new Caucasus map take into account the different lighting levels during the seasons. Particularly in regard to the recent "winter season" screenshots, which look great with all the snow. However, for the Caucasus region, the sun reaches only about 23 degrees maximum altitude above the horizon near winter solstice, Dec. 21st. Will this taken into account or simulated too? Just asking, as the screenshots seem to have a much higher sun elevation, like during summer time, which makes the winter scene less convincing IMHO. Any thoughts?

I really hope this means we will see the SUU-20 practice bomb dispenser for the Hornet module one day. It can be loaded with up to four 2.75 inch rockets and six BDU-33 Training bombs. Also looking forward to the CATM Sidewinder. Both make training missions much more realistic, loudout-wise, particularly when flying as a CF-18. :)

Thanks guys for your feedback! I maybe wasn't clear enough in my initial post. I was wondering if in the future ED might provide an external F/A-18A model for the flyable F/A-18C module? Surely it would be too far of a stretch to ask for a full A-version external and internal -> too much work involved. An external F/A-18A model combined with the internals (systems, cockpit,...) of the F/A-18C flyable module would not exactly be 100% realistic, however it would provide a flyable A-model with the least amount of work involved... The changes required to make an A-model out of the C are not too many. Eliminate the additional antenna bumps on the forward fuselage, spine and vertical tails, exchange the back-swept UHF antennas below the fuselage and on the spine with straight versions, remove the bird slicers on the nose, burner cans could stay the same (F/A-18A's started using the newer engines a few years after entering service). There are other subtle differences (e.g. narrower canopy frame), but they are not too obvious and could be left as they are. And then we could paint away all those good F/A-18A liveries!

I was wondering... There are and have been so many great realworld F/A-18A liveries and paint schemes it would be terrific if we had a proper external model for those repaints. I would love to tackle those in the future, it would be ubercool if sometime in the future of the DCS: F/A-18C an external model for the F/A-18A could be provided. I know it would not exactly fit with the cockpit and systems, but from the outside it just looked like the A-model. Being a big fan of the CF-18, and I would love to create repaints for the CF-18's of the late 80's and early 90's when they were based in Europe/Germany.

It would be really nice if one day we could get the SUU-20 pod for the Hornet. The Canadians and Australians have been using this in the past. http://www.marvingroup.com/images/uploads/documents/SUU-20_Flyer_-_Final_Draft_1.pdf

I am with Spudknocker on this. It would be fantastic to have (AI) F/A-18D duals in DCS.
