  1. Thank you. Your help is very much appreciated. I will give those values a try. Having old NVA documents at hand is always a nice thing...
  2. Sarmatt, you say you flew the MiG-21 for a couple of years. Do you still have access to the charts that tell you the angle settings for ASP in manual bombing mode plus the maneuver entry and delivery speeds? Or do you possibly remember these angle settings and corresponding speeds? You would help a lot if you were able to provide us with these...
  3. It sure is. Personally, I have nothing bad to say about the MiG-21bis in 1.5.4. stable release version. Even the ASP does work. The only thing apparent to me is the really slow roll rate which seems to be substantially slower than before. As delta wing fighters normally should have an excellent roll rate by design this seems a little odd to me. Some clarification on that issue ("downgrading") by a dev would be very much appreciated. The problem with substantially less capable missiles (tracking rate etc.) seems to be a global one and not unique to the MiG-21. Apparently ED did something really weird to the missiles. So, there is no reason to keep bashing LN for not doing their homework. The MiG-21bis is perfectly flyable in its current state and finally I have much fun using it in mp, again.
  4. This! At least, there is something done. There is a very good reason for LN providing us with that new FM in Open Beta. It needs some tweaking here and there but it is definitly a step in the right direction. Squashing these apparent bugs should not be that hard because LN finally seems to listen to the community. Some people really need to understand that the modules in Open Beta are not necessarily perfect and polished... There still remains one question, though. Why are important features like the SAU system or the ASP still not working as advertised after nearly two years of development? The available data on these systems is superb as the RW manual is there with all necessary info. And with a real life MiG-21 pilot in LN'S team there really should not be any problem in implementing these systems the right way. I still have faith that LN is able to finally polish the MiG-21 to an "as advertised" standard because personally I feel that concerning the MiG-21 in the last few weeks things gained considerable momentum behind the scenes.
  5. I agree with zero crash. I could not reproduce the problem you describe in your post. The R-3R works ok on my end - apart from being a little op, of course. But that is fine with me.:D Dugong, would please attach a DCS track file, a video or better even an ACMI file from Tacview if you own that software. It would make things so much easier for us to see what goes wrong on your side when you employ the R-3R...

    DCS: F-5E!

Awesome work BST! Just pre-purchased the F-5E. Now, let the hype train begin...:D
  7. Well, the problem is that to the astonishment of the community promises which define the quality standard of your product are not kept. I am not going to talk about the ongoing issues with the radar or the ASP as that was indeed mentioned a million times. For example, let us take a look at the annoying incomplete cockpit lighting. Every other 3rd party module has a this as a more or less finished feature. Most of them also do from the beginning. We are still waiting for a working animation in the MiG-21 to this day... Or let us talk about the realistic soundset which was promised a few times in the past. Where is this feature? How do you as LN´s community manager explain that to us as the potential buyers of future LN products? I hope you understand that people are starting to feel a little let down...
  8. Good video! All hard data put aside for a moment, absolutely everyone can see there is currently something really wrong with the R550 performance. Even the gimbal limits of the seeker head appear to be much worse than they should be (you can clearly see that at the end of the video in comparison to the AIM-9M btw). Also, the exhaust smoke by the rocket motor is a joke. The Magic II has about the same smoke output as the AIM-9M/L Sidewinder (visible in many test firings btw). The Super530D does perform only slightly better. Although personally I agree with a pk of around 40% the low altitude performance can´t be close to the real thing. According to data from Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s one of the Super530D´s strengths was exactly the fact that it´s seeker head had good look down capability and a reasonable low-level pk. This is absolutely not true for the current missile in DCS. There is obviously much work to do...
  9. Grunf, you really made my day. Your fix works perfectly. All I can say is thank you very much. People might be interested that there is a full NTTR map RSBN/PRMG NavChannel list already available in your MiG-21bis/Cockpit/KNEEBOARD/indicator/CONTENT folder so you do not have to write all those channels down somewhere. If you do not have that file in your OpenAlpha cockpit folder simply copy and paste it from the corresponding MiG-21bis cockpit folder in your DCS main game.
  10. Good work, RAZBAM! Even in this early state the module has sooo much to offer. So far I am pleased with handling and framerates. I just had a very nice dogfight against two MiG-23s and they were toast so quickly I couldn´t believe my eyes! Again, very well done.

  12. I did some tests and here is what I found: Santi871 is right with his statement. Recovery can currently only made by applying full opposite rudder and pushing the control stick fully forward at the same time. Throttle setting seems to be irrelevant. Other methods do not work. Recovery technique is the same for left and right spins. I did a quick video to show the results. Video shows also stall recovery at the end. LINK: https://youtu.be/bxucy1iTdok
  13. Interesting! I will try to reproduce certain spins today when I come back home from work. But as I said the spin recovery procedure is not realistic at all at present. If Santi 871 is right and his method of recovery (which is admittedly applicable for most other aircraft) works then it is absolutely contrary to what the MiG-21's real life manual clearly states and advises you to do. This is also why I did not even think of trying his method. Maybe someone from LN could clarify things a little more...
  14. No! This would send the aircraft into an inverted spin. The proper way of recovering a stall/spin in the MiG-21bis would be to immediately set the controls to neutral and hold(fix) them there. Also, leave throttle in the position it was when you entered the stall/spin. The aircraft then will recover from stall / spin by itself. It will enter a dive and will get controllable again at an airspeed around 450 km/h. Then advance the throttle and accelerate again. Altitude loss for stall recovery may be between 1500 -2000m and for spin recovery around 2000 -2800m. Drag chute use should be for emergency use, only. As with the current FM in 1.5 I find the stall/spin recovery not really suitable. In my opinion it needs tuning as when I follow the real life recovery procedure I cannot recover and in most cases I will crash. Aircraft recovery from normal spin should be accomplished after not more than one turn which amounts to 4 -5s when the proper method is used.
  15. The cockpit red floodlights do not work. According to the DCS World 1.5 patch notes this should be a working feature for the MiG-21, now. Is this a bug or is the feature still in WIP stage? Can anyone confirm this, please?
  16. Thank you for your help on that issue, Lino. Most of us possibly did not realize that there are physical RSBN beacons with their respective channel numbers now present on some airports. Looking forward to your new beacon map...
  17. Confirmed! I do notice that, too. It occurs when flying in MANUAL mode or in STABILIZATION mode. It does not happen, when Autopilot is in RECOVERY mode, though. Aircraft listing due to wind effect could be intended and normal but this behavior was not there before and feels a little strange. So, a quick clarification from LN would be appreciated...
  18. Exactly. A callsign is always good to assign especially when you add multiple GCIs to your mission. But it is not needed. @ YoYo: The most important thing is to assign a frequency to the GCI. Do this in the same frequency format as you would for ATC communication, e.g. 3.75 Mhz. If you use the default frequency format, e.g. 131.00 Mhz, your comms will not work as the RSI-6K does not operate in that frequency range. This should do the trick. Please give a short feedback if this works for you.
  19. Hey mjmorrow! Yep, altitude is your best friend. The MiG-15bis can go higher than the Sabre. Try climbing to 52.000ft and more. The Sabre cannot reach your maximum altitude - you are in a safe "perch" up there. Also, fly at a high mach number. This way you can pretty much dictate when you start your attack as you always have the height and speed advantage on your first run and you may be lucky to come up unseen behind some Sabres. After you start your attack you can now try a "hit & run" tactic and pull up again to a height well beyond the Sabre´s reach or you can try maneuvering with them. I would say the MiG-15bis turns better than the F-86F until you reach approx. 35.000ft. Below that altitude the Sabre quickly starts gaining on you. That does not mean the MiG-15 turns bad, however. Flying around 650 km/h at 10.000ft you can pull as much as 11Gs if you do it right. And always be aware of the tremendous range of your cannons. You can get some well aimed deadly hits at a traget nearly 3000ft out. Some other things about the F-86F: the Sabre has a slight speed advantage over the MiG and has a big advantage in a dive. The Sabre is heavier and can pick up speed much quicker than the MiG. So do not try getting one in a steep dive with your MiG at high speed and full power. You might loose your aircraft this way. If you do have to fight at 35.000ft and below you need to rely on better tactics than those Sabre jocks (this is always applicable, though...). It would be preferable to have a wingman with you so you can depend on mutual support. Learn maneuvers like the "Reverse Turn", "Scissors", "YoYo" and "Diving Spiral". Be prepared to do something unconventional in combat, think ahead and have a "Last Ditch" maneuver at hand. Always check your airspeed to be in your best maneuvering zone (600-650 km/h). Sounds like "No Guts - No Glory" by Frederick C. Blesse? Right! Read that manual on ACM tacticts by every means. If you learn the right maneuvers at the right time you will start improving your skills considerably. You will then also be able to judge how good those Sabre jocks fly their aircraft and take advantage on any mistakes on their part. Practice makes perfect. Know every aspect of your MiG-15´s advantages and especially those disadvantages. You WILL get better...
  20. Hey YoYo! Obviously I was too stupid to mention the correct file name in the first post. My fault... You need to enter the missing red line into the MiG-15´s comm.lua file, of course. Then it will work for sure. Try it and you are good to go...
  21. 1.) Absolutely right. The Sirena-2 was definitely in use in the last phase of the Korean conflict. In 1953 new MiG-15bis often had it installed. And as we fight against one of the most modern F-86F variants of that period it would be only fair to implement the Sirena-2 to our MiG-15bis. In multiplayer this would come in handy as I experienced firsthand that Sabres are waiting in the vincinity of your base and try to get you on take-off or landing. Just like in Korea. And it works pretty simple. If Sirena-2 detects the Sabre´s gun radar emissions from behind you will get a ringtone in your headset. Pretty straight forward. 2.) The AGK-476 artificial horizon should be made available as an option. It is much more suitable for a nimble fighter like the MiG-15bis. 3.) The ORO-57 eight round rocket launcher should be made available as an armament option to diversify our options in ground attacks. These eight round rocket launchers WERE TESTED on a STANDARD MiG-15bis coded 803 and used D3-40 shackels attached to the standard drop tank attachment points. Aiming was performed with the standard ASP-3N sight. I know, it was not put into use on the regular aircraft but only on a dedicated fighter bomber which enterd service. But for the sake of fun and diversity it should simply be there. So, actually this would be small but very useful addition to the BST MiG-15bis very much appreciated by the user community.
  22. So, in your example you use two NDBs with two different frequency range settings. There is obviously a switch on the ARC-5 panel that controls three different frequency range settings (150-310Mhz/310-640Mhz/640-1300Mhz) for NDBs. Wouldn´t I have to switch to the corresponding frequency range first before I flip one of those NDB preset switches? Or does the ARC-5 automatically tune to these? Funny thing is I still did not try it yet so please enlighten me...:helpsmilie:
  23. You are absolutely right. It is pretty annoying because in real life the MiG-15 heavily relied on guidance by GCI radars. I remeber when the F-86F came out we had the same problem with AWACS in the COMM menu. The solution was to follow these steps: 1.) open the file C:\Games\DCS\Mods\aircrafts\F-86\comm.lua in Notepad++ and scroll down to the very end. 2.) Add the red line to your Comm menu utils.verifyChunk(utils.loadfileIn('Scripts/UI/RadioCommandDialogPanel/Config/Common/AWACS.lua', getfenv()))(7, {tanker = false, radar = false}) 3.) Open your game and try a mission in the MiG-15 with a GCI radar/AWACS. You should now have the corresponding AWACS menu entry. (Remember: using a GCI radar you need to be associated to a coaltion with Russia before you setup a mission in the editor otherwise comms will not work - a peculiarity of DCS GCI) Hope that solves the problem for you. Post a short answer if it works...
  24. @ golani79: Thank you for your help on that. That is what I thought to be the possible use of that valve but I had no source of confirmation. Anyways, I will test engine operation with and without that valve as soon as I am back home from work. Will post if I observe any differences...:pilotfly:
  25. So I tune in...! The MiG-15Bis is truly a masterpiece. Is this still a beta one should ask?! It handles so well I did not encounter any problems so far. I tested her for a few hours yesterday and I can say the level of detail is amazing. And the soundset! The soundset is sooo immersive. I mean just listen to that engine spool up...! Anyway, F-86 pilots should beware, now. The MiG´s cannons are absolutely deadly and it just entered the arena. Well done BST! But I have one question remaining: what exactly does the "Isolation Valve" (next to the fuel & engine switches) on the left switch panel do? I could not get behind it. Has it any effect? Any help would be appreciated.
