reminder of what I was missing --and vr snap zoom q
DerekSpeare replied to wingsuit's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, I think there are more than a few here who'd like an instant 2x/5x/10x zoom view in VR. -
It's bizarro...now it's not happening...weird!

Anyone having low frame rate issues in VR with the Beta1.5 and Stable1.5?
-
I tested two planes, the F5 and F15. Both at the same place in in the same position. I am running the Stable 1.5x.141 and the Beta 1.5x updated today. I get a solid 90fps with x.141 in both planes and 59-60fps in the same planes in the same location with the same mission with the Beta 1.5current. Very :( NB: I just did a direct head to head comparison, everything on the host PC being identical. I'm not intending to test the other planes as it's likely the results will be similar. The graphical settings in both installations are the same as well.

I'm sure I'm late to the party, but the DCS engine is a good base IMO for a full blown civil sim. Of course, it's not a light undertaking to make it so. I think the Cessna 172 would be good, or perhaps the Grob 120. The sky's the limit! :pilotfly:

ATW only is as good as the base frame rates under it...ATW experience quality degrades exponentially as frame rates decrease.
-
I used Driver Sweeper to get rid of the DL drivers. A syswipe will always get it...
-
I think I am going to do my mission setup on a second PC and save the files to my NAS. I'll access them from the VRPC when I'm ready to fly. Both of them are in the same office :D

You won't have success with Displaylink and Oculus. They are incompatible. This was a lesson I learned two years ago with V0.4 of the Oculus runtimes and the DK2. Do yourself a favor and kill Dirplaylink with fire. While I haven't tested it to confirm it personally, there is an alternate way to go about it, but you need new hardware. The Startech USB2DVIE3 USB2 to DVI could be a solution: http://www.ebay.com/itm/StarTech-Accessory-USB2DVIE3-USB-to-DVI-External-Video-Card-Multi-Monitor-/161938806568?hash=item25b44e1728:g:HEEAAOSw1DtXGO-k Of course, drivers are needed, but they are Startech's and not Displaylink: https://www.startech.com/AV/USB-Video-Adapters/USB-to-DVI-Multi-Monitor-Adapter~USB2DVIE3#dnlds Good luck! EDIT: So not to derail the thread, I have also written Oculus and they believe that what I'm suggesting may not work, but I'll leave this here for posterity.

Understanding Frame rates and ATW (Asynch Time Warp)
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
VR and flight sims are a perfect fit, something that's been needed for decades. ED doesn't have the VR features specific to the 1080 video card enabled and and maybe they never will. The 980ti's are dirt cheap now, and they are nearly as power as the 1080's. For over 200 bucks less you can get a video card that does the job and does it well. It boils down to best performance for dollar spent, in my opinion; e.g.: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html 1080 = 18.22 passmarks per dollar 980ti = 27.46 passmarks per dollar Moreoever, I've read nothing that leads me to believe that the 1080 offers significant speed benefits over the 980ti when it comes to DCS (or other titles like FSX:FI, P3D:FI, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, etc.). While the card is more powerful than the 980ti by some, it's really the VR features that make this card (and its progeny) the eventual winner, but since ED doesn't use these features, it is a waste of precious resources right now. Perhaps by the time a hypothetical 1180ti comes out, the developers will be taking advantage of the VR features it will likely have. Ultimately, if a guy wanted simply the most maximum performance possible, then a 1080+4790k would be the top dog. The 1080 is the most powerful video card, and the 4790k is the CPU that offers the highest single core performance available. If one is after the most "thrust to weight" ratio, that's the ticket. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html -
Expected VR performance is loosely similar to performance with three screens. If you're not getting a solid 90FPS "most" of the time in three screens, don't expect your VR experience to be positive. ATW will only help so much. DCS performance even with the best hardware out there is marginal to acceptable at best. It's up to ED to do more work to get better results performance VR IMO. I have a somewhat cogent post on frame rates, VT and ATW here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=168856

Just an observation to BST's attention to detail...I noticed the scratchy sounding lighting control knobs when taking off last night. The bird was cold and dark and after turning on the power I adjusted the lights...the sound made me say, "cool man, now that's detail..."
-
Since what Kuky says is the way it is, possible a stand alone mission editor is what would be a better solution. I highly doubt this will happen, though.
-
The first implementation of VR in DCS was like that. The mirror screen is insufficient. Keep all of the menu interaction on the screen and open the VR device when the session begins. This is how AC does it, and it makes sense.
-
DK2 should be 200 bucks; the prices people want are just stupid. Pay the money and get a CV1. Leap is useless unless you want the novelty of it. Doesn't work in DCS and Leap tech has a long way to go before people adopt it - if they ever do.
-
Sublogic! Wow...that's a time warp...remember when they announced in ~90-91 that they planned to do an Air Force UPT sim? It never came, obviously. I had their ATP sim and it was really good back then. First Gen VR is on the threshold of image quality. While it's still rubbish compared to 4k screens (it's "acceptable"), the immersion is mind blowing.

Corrupt grass/bushes rendering in VR at low level.
DerekSpeare replied to Frusheen's topic in Virtual Reality
I have the flashing trees...really terrible. -
My PD is 1.5. Panel marking legibility seems to be low in general with VR. A Hi-Rez panel may help, but that could whack the frame rates though. BST can shed some light on this if they wanted.
-
Hi, Sorry for posting it, but I must. The panel markings/labels are entirely unreadable/illegible in the F5 when using VR. Is a higher resolution/clearer cockpit planned?
-
They need to get rid of the godrays...bleck!
-
Any video capture is going to be what is shown on the mirror and not on the VR device itself. I'm not even sure a HDMI capture will do it. Run the tooltips. That's the best you can get. Some planes are better than others. The F5 is impossible to read. VR is too good right now, so it's worth it.
-
It's unrealistic to expect first generation VR to come close to a 4k screen. The benefits of VR far outweigh any screen if the realities of the limitations are kept in perspective. VR screen resolution is fixed. You cannot adjust it.
