Airshow jets get modifications fleet jets dont. A huge oil tank for smoke, and larger inverted flight baffles to name a few.

Push backs need to be a thing. I can taxi right along the scupper, and crank it 90 degrees into a spot. Just need a bunch of flight deck crewmen to run over and push it back tail over water.

OP's question was how it's done in real life. The video demonstrates how it's done in real life. He'd already noted right now he uses external views. In real life there are no visual ques. Pilots follow the yellow shirts. The reason every aircraft carrier has the rating symbol of the AB, the anchors with wings, is a not so subtle reminder that they run the flight deck. In real life a pilot who ignored the director, and followed his own visual ques, would have a short career. Same as the one who kept spotting the deck, and ignoring the FLOLS. I think we all get the fact this is a sim, and there are limitations. So as far as DCS goes, I'd say do whatever gets you hooked up. There's really not a right or wrong way.

At about 48 seconds you can see the director giving ques to line the jet up. About 1:05 you can see someone directing the launch bar into the shuttle. Takes a few people, and a ton of hand signals.

The whole point of the flight idle stops is so your engines don’t have to spool all the way up from ground idle, say as you’re coming out of the break, and power back on, or any other maneuvering where you’re going power off, followed by power back on. . Holding the throttles at flight idle is actually very important, so I hope nothing changes in the sim.. As far as DCS goes I’m pretty sure the throttles go back to ground idle when weight goes back on wheels, so I don’t see the issue with it.

I was just going to ask this very thing. In the A-10 there's a command to tell your wingmen to go to the tanker. In the hornet looks like that's not possible. I've been wondering if it's a bug.

I've got a warthog, but noticed in flight the jet idles around 70-71 percent when airborne, which is because it's in flight idle. on the ground compressor speed is back into the ground idle range. When the jet goes weight off wheels a spring loaded solenoid energizes, and lifts the flight idle stop. When you bring the throttle all the way back, it rests on that stop. When weight is back on wheels the solenoid would retract, and allow the throttle to rest on the ground idle stop.

[REPORTED][MERGED] Carrier Taxi Problems

Really wish they would lick this issue. Especially with all the shipboard jets we have, and are planned. -
Windscreen reflections and optical sight purple tint
sideshow replied to Alex Voicu's topic in 3D Model and Cockpit
Poor man's GPS. I saw a picture somewhere of an SU-24 with a similar setup. Guess it's cheaper than integrating it into the aircraft! :) -
Working on a new skin. Almost done. It's been a pain trying to line up the stripes and wording down the spine.

So the fpu 8a 122l should also be name if the actual texture. If it has a different name the textures won't load.
-
Go to the livery folder, open the description.lua, change the name of the droptank file to match the name For it in the lua. Or you can change the lua name to match what the droptank texture filename. That worked for me. Only prob is when ED fixes it you may have to change something back.

Evidently he's also excited the Hornet is finally here!

I know this is going to sound nitpicky, and is probably not a bug, but maybe something not implemented yet. However, I'll drone on anyway! :) Noticed when carrying drop tanks the fuel page doesn't show them. Pretty sure the fuel page should show an extra box to represent the external tank, or tanks. If memory serves correctly, the box or boxes should be at the bottom of the screen, and should show the quantity, with a caret, like the internals.

Funny. I was going to post the same thing. Feels like the Hornet is coming along smoothly!

It would be cool to have some navy squadron callsigns like, "Hobo", "Sting", "Bullet" ect... UZI 1-1 has gotten a little old after all this time! :)

[MISSING TRACK FILE] NWS Hi setting sticks.
sideshow replied to sideshow's topic in Bugs and Problems
Included. Wish I would have saved a track when I had the major issues. This one just shows the nose wheel lock up a few times while making turns in the parking area. Launch bar was up, as I was on land. Having the issue on land and ship though. Also, while making the track I noticed the Hi went away when the button was released. When I have issues the button stays on even after release, and the paddle wont clear it. -
[MISSING TRACK FILE] NWS Hi setting sticks.

Track file included. Here's a track. I was able to get the nose wheel to lock up in High gain a few times. Had the control indicator on, to show I was moving the pedals, without result. I was unable to reproduce the paddle switch not disengaging NWS though. I don't have any issues till I taxi to the parking area and start turning the jet. NWS.trk -
Strange behavior when switching NWS into high gain. Sometimes the nose wheel randomly locks up in a straight position, and will not turn. I release the button, and it still shows NWS Hi, but have no control over steering. I'll tap the button, hoping to get it to go out of high gain, but no luck. I've hit the paddle, to disable NWS altogether, but it seems its stuck in high gain. Eventually NWS will go out, and i can re enable it and things work. No rhyme or reason as to what causes it to happen though. Had the issue on the beach and on the ship. Don't know if its a bug, or i'm doing something wrong. Anybody else have issues with this?

Thanks, awesome! By far my favorite jet!

I believe you're right, but moving the switch forward or to the aft most position should press and hold switch so to speak. So bringing it back to center, which is a dead position, should release that press. To release it you basically have to go to the center position, then back into the other position. Only reason I'm harping on the lights switch is it's actually important. When you're set on the cat, you signal you're ready by flipping that master switch and turning the strobes on. After a trap, you should be flipping it off to kill the external lights. The jets taxi around the ship blacked out. Only time you're using those lights is when you're all set. Small detail I know, but the Hornet is an amazing module which pays attention to those small things!

Minor issue I've noticed is when I turn the APU off, by moving the switch on my Warthog throttle it doesn't shut off. I have to move it back into the on position to get the APU to shut down. Seems like only moving the switch forward works, and moving it aft doesn't shut it off as it should. Is there a way to get the APU switch (button 29 on the throttle) work similar to the A-10, where forward will start the APU and aft will kill it? I've got it mapped to the APU on/off bind in settings. There's also a similar issue with the external lights switch. Forward turns it on for me, but moving it to center does nothing. I've been really impressed with the Hornet, and can't put it down. Think she's ED's best work as of yet! Thanks

You need to update Beta first. Unfortunately the update isn't available yet.
