FA-18C Aggressors BFM Campaign
sideshow replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in F/A-18C Aggressors BFM Campaign
It’s guns only. You're basically using your jets strengths, and your opponents weaknesses, to get in a position to kill the other guy. If the jets had missiles you and the AI would shoot it out before you got a chance to merge, and hone those BFM skills. I’m about half way through it, and enjoying it a lot. So much so that I grabbed the f-5 campaign too. Will be interesting to go through the same gauntlet with a lot less thrust. -
FA-18C Aggressors BFM Campaign

Can you assign each tanker it's own TACAN, and include them within the briefing somewhere? All three are set to 1X right now. -
ED is going to release a new aircraft carrier which will be a module you pay for. It's supposed to contain the animated deck crew, realistic comms, and a bunch of other goodies like a crash barrier. I believe it'll be modeled after the Nimitz.
-
I think this is a good compromise. Those of us who are going to purchase the new carrier can enjoy it in multiplayer missions, and those who don't can still join the server. Hopefully this means host's will include the new carrier in their missions, as it won't be a barrier for anyone to join. Honestly I don't know why a person who has the Hornet, Tomcat or both, wouldn't just purchase the new carrier module. You have to keep in mind, there are people who at the end of the day need to be compensated for their efforts, and to keep this sim going. If cash flow dries up, goodbye to new innovation.

[UNABLE TO REPRODUCE] Lots of missing Textures since last update.
sideshow replied to sideshow's topic in Object Bugs
Thanks for the help. Turns out it's the VNAO Ready Room Mod creating the issue. Guess it's back to staring at the flanker in VR. -
You need to decompress the .rar file with a program like Winrar, or whatever you prefer. Once you do that, put the file folder in: Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Missions\Campaigns

RAZBAM makes a beautiful external model. They really struggle when it comes to replicating avionics that actually have some fidelity to them. Hopefully they'll figure that part out before moving on to even more complicated modules, becuase there is no way they'd be able to recreate something as complicated as a Strike Eagle given their existing products. I think we have all tuned into which 3rd Parties are struggling since the Veao Hawk debacle. I for one refuse to throw anymore money at a 3rd party that could fold up, taking what I've paid for with them.

For me to get altitude hold to work I have to nudge the stick forward after engaging the autopilot. Otherwise it will not work. All other modes work like they should.

Difficulty seeing lighting/Warning lights
sideshow replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Just downloaded your latest version, and it looks even better than the other one. -
Did you make the "ready to pre-contact" call to the tanker prior to trying to hook the basket? After the first request to refuel call, you have to contact the tanker a second time once you're in the pre-contact position. The tanker will clear you to refuel, then you can take a stab at the basket. I'm only suggesting this since it sounds like you're plugging the basket, but the probe is going straight through it.

Difficulty seeing lighting/Warning lights

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3304383/ This is also a good one. Cautions ect. are basically redrawn so they stand out. I'm all for a worn cockpit, as it's realistic to military aviation in general. Problem with the tomcat is they went so far that the cockpit is basically unusable as is. It's a shame we have to use mods that don't pass integrity check just to read what cautions are lit, or figure out which switch does what. -
Sorry. For some reason I thought I was in the tomcat forum. Been spending a ton of time there lately..

You also have to set the ship as the data link host. Here's a video I watched that helped. Redkite has really good content.

I know there are major fixes and bugs that need to take priority, and this is not one of them. However, I'm wondering if CAP-9 training sidewinders can be added to the inventory? I ask since we already have the ability to add a TACTS pod. I feel those two go hand in hand.

[RESOLVED] RIOs joining uninvited and unapproved
sideshow replied to MobiSev's topic in Bugs and Problems
I had some uninvited RIO join, and blow the canopy off the jet. Frustrating. -
https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030You can always do a manual update to DCS.

I seriously feel like I may have to call in sick Wednesday.

What rudder pedals do you use?
sideshow replied to jeffham222's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I decided to go with the Thrustmaster pedals since my controls include the Warthog and Cougar MFD's. Also, I refused to purchase anything without toe brakes. I love my TPR's, and feel like the price is worth it if you're into helicopters and controlling a Harrier that's in the hover (the precision stuff). Honestly with jets like the hornet, and a-10 (at least in my own opinion) my old Saitek's were just fine. -
Please consider making the Chili and Honduras skin available for all countries. There aren't a lot of countries that use this jet in the real world, and most people won't know to select Honduras, or Chili, just to have the extra eye candy.

The tanks now are still considered expendable stores. However, they do have repairable valves, ect. inside, so they can be fixed. If you're a jet mech, on a navy ship, you spend countless hours in the hanger removing and replacing those valves, and fixing and testing tanks. We'd take enough to put 3 on each jet, even though usually only flew with 2. The extra tanks get stored in the overhead in the hanger bay, and usually stay there. In a case like when one of our pilots had to punch a tank off, we brought a replacement down from the rafters. Normally if a tank breaks, i.e. won't take fuel, we rob from a jet that's not supposed to fly, and then fix the broken tank. We'd shuffle tanks from jets that were broken in the hanger, up to jets that needed the tank up on the flight deck. Just like they ended production on the F-18, they also ended it on the drop tanks. So when a new one needed to be ordered it would most likely have to come from a boneyard. Prior to it being issued to a squadron, it would be cleaned up, tested, then crated and shipped. As you can imagine that would be quite the process to get it to a squadron, especially one deployed. Nowadays I'd say it's very rare that a pilot would punch tanks off. Not saying it's impossible, just not common. Think Jello, from The Fighter Pilot Podcast summed it up when he referred to the emergency jettison button as, "The admiral's doorbell." If you start punching stores, it's guaranteed trip to see the old man and explain why you needed to.

I maintained hornets for around 9 years. Only seen one tank ever have to be punched off. There was a fuel transfer issue, and the pilot couldn’t get the fuel out of the centerline. You can’t land on the ship with that 2400lb tank hanging, so it got jettisoned.

That same thing just happened to me. Go into the user/saved games/DCS folder. take your logbook, and whatever else you want to save out of it. Don't forget to copy your input folder, or you'll lose your key binds! Then delete the DCS.openbeta folder from the saved games folder. It'll come back to life when you restart the game. I found this out the hard way. First I deleted DCS and reinstalled it, which was unsuccessful.
