  1. The problem with me with this kind of statement is maybe it is true and maybe that is more realistic. However.....this should be a conversation for when ED actually says, "Yes, we are changing this". Half of the people on here are talking about if it was actually changed or not and the other half are talking about if it should be changed. I'm not going to get into if it is more realistic or not if ED is still over here saying "we did not change anything". For people that don't see a change, the truth is it is probably just your equipment. DCS is a simulator and provides different results on different equipment. I know a bunch of guys that have always invested in high end equipment and yes, we have always had better visibility in DCS. This has been confirmed time and time again in multiplayer flights when other guys on chat can not see targets until they reach a certain distance and other guys can always see them before. That is the way it is with a computer simulator and variable setting and the variations in equipment. So, for people with that high end equipment the change in visibility is very noticeable. Again, I'm not going to personally get into the argument of weather this is correct to real life or not unless ED actually says, Yes we wanted to change this and did it on purpose and it was not just an accidental side effect of all the changes to create the new label system. Like I said in my last post, rather then comparing what you see in the current version and arguing about if it changed or not, just simply run up standard DCS version that is not updated with the 8/29 update and then run up the latest OpenBeta in the same test mission and the difference is extremely easy to notice.
  2. I know that everyone is saying there was no change here however, I have been flying DCS for many years and really noticed this as well. If there was no change then can someone explain to me how I just tested in my OpenBeta (up to date version) with an F5 using radar and my DCS Standard version (which is on the version just prior to the 8/29 update) and I can see air targets at almost twice the distance in my Standard version that is not updated with the 8/29 update? As soon as I can spot a target in OpenBeta I pause and go to F10 map and then do the exact same test in my Standard version and again, the distance between my aircraft and the enemy is almost down to half as much in the 8/29 updated version. I have some screenshots of this but I do not have them with me at the moment. I will upload them as soon as I get a chance.
  3. Thank you Rob! This is exactly what I was saying in my head before I got to your post. So many of views that people hold when comparing aircraft capabilities often don't account for the variant of the aircraft. This is the same reason why stats are so screwed and kill ratio's are debated and go back and forth, because these stats change when the variant of the aircraft changes. This exact same issue occurs with the Spitfire and BF-109. When asking which plane is better the answer depends on the month and year you are talking about. It went back and forth with each aircraft countering the others advantages. So, in this case when someone tries to compare the F-86 and the Mig-15 you will get widely varying results. The question really needs to be "what is better the F-86F-35 or the Mig-15bis? Historically all the other info is interesting but has no relevance in this specific case. I don't dislike the Mig-15, however, in this situation my opinion is that the F-86F-35 is superior to the Mig-15bis. The stronger engine is one thing but one of the biggest advantages of the later model F-86 is the "flying tail". This is key for dealing with near mac 1 speeds. The soviets did not implement a flying tail until after the Mig-17bis.
  4. Yes, you need to keep the engine slightly up when sitting on the ground to power the radio. It is just like the gun sight. Put on the brakes and slightly push up the throttle, when you get a piper on your hud (if you have the guns on) the plane now has electrical power. Also, a good way to learn radio tuning on the Saber is to bring up the Knee-board and leave it on the page with the radio statues. It will tell you in digital numbers what freq you are on instead of trying to guess from that tiny dial or listen to morse code while trying to fly
  5. No problem, glad to help. If you have any other mod questions just PM me, so my email will tell me you messaged me. I only look at ED forums every now and then. Also, if you want a little more detail on how file replacement programs like JSGME work I detailed some of it here in another post. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=190138&page=3 If you do start modding I highly recommend using one of these file replacement programs like JSGME. If not managing your Mods and your DCS directory can get very complicated and confusing. Plus it allows you to turn off all mods with one click to make sure a mod is not messing up your current version of DCS when troubleshooting any issues.
  6. I have actually found a way to perfectly trim this plane if you really want to. I just don't have much use for it. I have a Thrustmaster Warthog and this gives you a half wheel on the throttle piece just to the right of the actual throttle. If you go into axis and assign this to the pitch trim and then make the adjustments in curves so that when the wheel is centered the trim is neutral then adjust it so the entire movement of the wheel down or up only adjusts the trim by one click then it becomes a super fine trim tab. Also, because it is not a button but a wheel and the single click is spread out of so much movement you can trim with the normal tabs and then fine tune with this. I've used it to walk away from the game in MP and go to the restroom.
  7. Yes, you can edit lua files directly in Notepad++ and that is what I would use at DCS does not seem to like Notepad at all. You can make perfectly good changes to a lua with Notepad and the game will not work but if you make the same changes with Notepad++ it works fine. I'm trying to provide help but I'm not entirely sure what you mean by some of these questions. Editing a lua file is a mod, once you have edited the lua file you have made a mod. What "manager" are you referring to? "Offline use only and fair use. I don't want to get in any trouble." Dude, you own your own version of this game and you can mod what you want. If DCS does not like it, it will not pass integrity check, but you cannot get it trouble for it. "Where do I need to put the files" Where you need to put the file depends on the original location of the file that you mod. If you don't use JSGME then you need to put the modded file in the exact same location as the original. If you Mod the "F-86.lua" that is in DCS World/CoreMods/Aircraft/F-86, then you need to put your modded F-86.lua in that same location. You can re-name the original "F-86-Orginal.lua" and your modded file the correct name of "F-86.lua". If you do it this way, keep backups of your mods, when you update the game it will overwrite your modded F-86.lua with an original copy of that lua. "how can I load them without preventing them from appearing in game." I really don't understand this one at all???
  8. Well if this is in fact the case, then really what is the point? Who has hours to sit around and wait and see if a track works when there is no rewind capability either. Image, trying to make a recording of a flight when you have to play it back at regular speed. Half the time it will be hours before you reach the part you wanted to record. Also, if this is true, then how come if I play a track and that track happens to work, then I can run time acceleration all I want on that track and it continues to work just fine. However, other tracks that I have never accelerated don't work and never will. It is so random.
  9. The latest patch to "Fix" this just completely broke my F5. At least when they were reversed I just needed to swap around the controls. Now after "fixing" it the pitch trim controls in my game for the F5 both show as Redded out and it doesn't matter what I bind the plane will no longer trim the pitch at all!
  10. For everyone that is asking if this JSGME or can be I just combined this Mod with my own 20mm cannon mod that is up as a GunVal Saber Mod on the DCS website under User Files. Someone that downloaded my Mod pointed me to this Mod and asked if it could be combined. So, that is what I did and my Mods were already JSGME. There were 2 in one download, 1st one that uses the MG-151/20 cannons for the Saber that was maid prior to the F5 being introduced into DCS. Then the 2nd mod uses the M39 cannons and sounds that I made after the F5 was released. Now there is a 3rd Mod in the download that combines Hook's mod with my M39 mod. Hook, I put you name in the 3rd Mod to give you credit and I hope that is okay with you. For those of you trying to understand JSGME it is really very simple. JSGME is just a file replacement program. So to make a Mod JSGME is all you need to do is duplicate the file structure from the location of you JSGME Mods folder to the location of the file you want to replace in that Mod. For example: If you mod replaces the F-86.lua file that exists in the location C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamic\DCS World\CoreMods\aircraft\F-86 then is all you need to do is go into the JSGME folder (best to have it in the root of the game) so in this case Program Files\Eagle Dynamic\DCS Word then in the _Mods (JSGME Folder) Create a folder, lets call it "F-86 Mod1" in that folder create a folder called CoreMods then inside that aircraft then inside that create F-86 then in the F-86 Folder place your moded F-86.lua. When you turn on the Mod you are telling JSGME, starting from the location of my JSGME Mods folder go into CoreMods then aircraft then F-86 and replace the file with this same name with my file i.e. F-86.lua. This is why it is best to have your Mod folder in the root directory of DCS. If my JSGME Mod folder was in the root of the drive, and not DCS then the file structure I would need to create in the Mod folder would go Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\CoreMods\Aircraft\F-86\F-86.lua
  11. Hi Has anyone had this issue? When I run a replay of a multiplayer mission in 2.5 the track starts out from when the mission started even though I was not on the server at that time. For example if I join a server, and the server has the sun up at 12 o'clock high when I join and it is noon, then when I replay the track it starts playing at that missions start time when the sun is rising and no one is even on the server including myself. It replays the track more like it is loading up the mission, then re-rendering what happened during my flight. My tracks save and replay fine for Tacview, this is just in the DCS replay, I have also disabled recording for Tacview from with in DCS and the replays are still the same. I have a lot of cool video that should be able to be re-rendered and captured in these tracks so I would love to get a fix for this.
  12. I uploaded the 2 20mm cannon mods for the Saber today to the user files section of the DCS website. You can get it here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3301409/
  13. I don't usually post my Mods up for download but I will when someone asks for it. I will post it on the user files downloads on EDs website and drop a link here when it is done. I should be able to get to it this weekend.
  14. Yes, I have a mod that uses the M39 and the M39 sound for the Saber. The other mod for cannons that I made before the F5 was in DCS uses the MG 151/20 from the FW-190 with the rounds modified to match the ROF and velocity of the early M39 cannons in real life. That mod uses a cannon sound that I got online. Both work really well.
  15. I made the mods some time ago so I don't recall all of the info at the moment but I believe I changed the bl.elevation_initial in the F-86.lua to 0.2 to get the rounds to pass directly through the piper. No, I didn't run any of those test you suggested I'm a professional IT person so the coding is no big deal for me but I'm not that adept at math. I will have to get back to you about the velocity I set, but setting it to whatever you like is very easy. I think I actually have 3 different ones, the default, one that is a bit faster and one that is like a rail gun just for fun. Concerning the other guys question about what info was used to mod the guns, I basically used the M39s that already exist in the game for the 20mm cannon mod. The later Sabers that did have some 20mm cannons used the early version of the M39, so I figured I would just use that. So with the mod the saber is basically just re-armed with M-39 cannons. Pilot Ryan, Yes, it works with the M39 cannons and the sound. The sound is very easy, in fact I still use a sound mod for the saber's guns even when I'm using the default 50s online so it sounds like I'm actually firing real guns and not setting off a row of black cat firecrackers. Personally knowing how a lot of IT professionals address reported bugs with fixes, I have often wondered if this is what happened. So, when Belsimtek first released the F-86 everything about the M3 guns were modeled as M2 guns as a mistake. This mistake was quickly noticed by the community reported the only way they could visibly see the mistake, as the guns firing with a very to low ROF for M3s machine guns. The guns were orginaly set to 800 rounds a minute like the M2 guns in DCS. If the "fix" was implemented by simply increasing the ROF then the guns would just act like M2s firing at an M3 rate of 1200 rounds and minute and burn out the guns super fast. Some guys in WW2 tried different tricks on there M2s to increase the ROF but as expected it would just burn the guns out super fast. So, I wonder if this is the case with the M3s in the F-86.....
  16. This is ridiculous, I'm getting this same error in my DCS log over and over again after the update today. I have 32Gb of fast RipJaw RAM! The game is crashing right after it launches, even before I load anything up.
  17. I personally have made many of the mod adjustments that are being talked about right here including velocity and yes it is in the weapons lua file. If anyone wants any of these mods for testing or just for fun just let me know and I can post them up. The Mods I have are: 1) Remove the heating warp from the .50 cals 2) Very high Velocity .50 cals 3) Corrected gun elevation so the rounds pass through the piper and not under it. 4) 20mm cannons for the saber (standard velocity) 5) 20mm cannons for saber (High velocity) Having said that one thing that I have noticed about the gunsight in the F-86F in DCS is that the rounds don't actually pass through the piper when fired, even in level flight. If you fire the rounds you will see that the tracer rounds pass under the center dot as opposed to through it. When I adjust this via the lua file so that the guns pass through the piper the radar gunsight becomes accurate. If I do not mod it and place the radar piper on the enemy and hold it there for a few seconds the rounds always fall just behind the enemy. This is frustrating because you are just adjusting the elevation of the guns but of course this kind of mod is forbidden in DCS and Belsimtek is never going to change it. The other thing to note is that the guns in the F-86F in DCS degrade from heat WAY faster then any other guns found in DCS. So, even after you fire a couple of very short bursts the rounds will start to shotgun like crazy and loose velocity until the point that they won't even fly far enough out not to fall under your own saber as you fly over the rounds you fired. I've modded the guns to use all tracers and see what the rounds do after even a couple of small bursts is crazy. You can be with in a couple hundred feet (Not Meters) of a Mig-15 and the rounds won't hit even the the enemy plane is not even maneuvering. So...shots that you take at the beginning of your fight that will hit the enemy will not hit them later on in the fight as the guns degrade. It can be frustrating because I've seen plenty of F-86 gun camera footage the shows bursts of gun fire up to 4-5 seconds long. Personally I don't fire this long at all myself however, it is of note that you can't even if you wanted to. After a single 4 second burst in this saber your guns will be useless. The guns warp so bad that I won't even re-arm my same Saber. I take a new one every time. I have gone on flights and downed 2-3 Migs and then after RTB, Landing, re-arming and refueling then taking off and engaging an enemy and my freshly loaded guns fire rounds right past a non-maneuvering Mig sitting right in front of me. I take a new plane and BAM, rounds start hitting. I have one question if anyone has a good answer for this. The TR on the drop speed for the gunsight next to HI & LO is not talked about and does not exist on the manual from Belsimtek. I read that it stands for "training" but that is all I have been able to find. So, what exactly does the "training" setting do and when and why would you use it?
  18. How about changing the Skins on the blue side so every plane doesn't have glaring white stripes down the wings? Currently only the CW Spit has a skin that doesn't have invasion stripes.
  19. I think this is a DCS thing in the latest patch. I have had this happen on several servers now, not just Burning Skies but I do have it happen there as well.
  20. Well I know how Tacview works and what you say sounds perfectly correct. In all honesty I was asking the question first here about Tacview because DCS has been driving me crazy lately. Trust me, I have gone over so many videos since 1.5.8 and even talked to the enemy in the video that Tacview says is destroyed by me and even they confirm that their aircraft was undamaged in my missile attack and certainly not destroyed. As you can see from the screen shots there is no way that Mig-21 should have escaped that attack but he did in the game and it has been happening like crazy since 1.5.8. The people that fly DCS have no appreciation for people that have been doing this for years and know what they are doing. I have endless amounts of Tacview videos showing me destroy aircraft with missiles that did not even get damaged in game. Any time you make a comment about it everyone one of the DCS fan boys starts yelling that it is because you suck and don't know what you are doing. Regardless of the fact that you have been doing this for years, know everything there is to know about these aircraft and weapons and the fact that you fired the missile from so close and with so little G load that it is impossible not to destroy the enemy. You see the missile hit the target and even Tacview show it hit and says they are destroyed. The other guy in this video tried to defend DCS by telling me that I was out of range, then he proceeded to get the kill by firing a missile at the same target from behind me (you know further away then I was) with a higher G load while the enemy was maneuvering and that was after my F-5's 2 Aim-9s slammed into the enemy first....LOL what a joke. Before 1.5.8 I use to go 10,11,12 even 13 and 0 in my F5. Now since then I have to use both missiles and my guns to down a single Mig-21. By the time you get off both missiles (that clearly hit in game and hit in Tacview) then fly into position to finish them with guns you are a sitting duck to any enemy in the area. Before 1.5.8 I use to take on flights of 3 Mig-21s and come out with 3 kills. Now I just run if I see a flight of even 2 Mig-21s. As far as I'm concerned I'm over DCS now....
  21. Tacview Playback not matching game play I was wondering if anyone else is getting this in Tacview or maybe if it is DCS itself. My Tacview replays are no longer matching what happens in the game. Pretty much the only time I see this is with A2A missiles. Tacview will show the missile slam into the enemy plane and then say that you destroyed the enemy plane. However, in game the enemy was not even smoking much less destroyed. Then I fire my second missile at the enemy in game and then in Tacview it shows me firing at nothing. Then lets say another person on my side fires a missile at the same enemy in game and they then get the kill in game. This has only started happening since 1.5.8 and came over into 2.5. I have a ton of Tacview videos now like the one below. My missiles are fired at close range with little to no Gs being pulled, they slam right into the enemy and it says I destroyed them but in game they are not even damaged. See screen shots to illustrate what I'm trying to ask. Screenshots: 1) About to fire 2) Fired 3) Hit and killed 4) My 2nd missile 5) Another player firing and destroying the same enemy Thanks
  22. The Mig-29 was developed from the late 70 - early 80s same with the F-15. Why are they not on this server???? And I agree they should not be on this server....I own and like both aircraft but if I question the use of it in a specifc enviroment that must mean I'm prejudice against them....lol Do you even understand the words you use to describe things or do you just though out whatever you think sounds best? Prejudice: noun 1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. What I said: The Viggen is a 90s version as well. I never understood why such a modern version was allowed on here. The reason is right there in the sentence, the exact opposote of prejudice.
  23. The Viggen is a 90s version as well. I never understood why such a modern version was allowed on here. Like Alpen said, those other guys defend it like crazy but why do you think they do that? Because they only excel in that plane because it has so many advantages. They don't do anything in any other planes.
