Adjustable gun convergence, Ammo type
Alphazulu replied to Moafuleum's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Yes, I agree with these guys. To me, the Spits guns do not seem anywhere near 300 meters out. If I set the gun site to that distance and try it on a straight flying enemy the rounds don't even hit. They pass right by the plane after converging way before it. As someone else pointed out we do already have the ability to change these settings offline and I have moved my convergence out to what appears to be the same as the Mustangs and it is awesome. I don't even need to change out the ammo just the convergence. It is very frustrating flying online and needing to try and sneak up so close to an enemy plane to even have them in range. Every time I get that close the guy can hear my engine and starts jinking all over before you can get a shot in. I have not even been able to provide support to my wingman in the Spit because every time I try to cover him my guns won't even reach the enemy attacking him. I don't think it needs to be overdone with a million different options. I would be happy with a few different load outs and convergence distances to choose from. -
Hi HH, I put that info together but I got the information about the types of ammo from the DCS World/CoreMods/WWII Units/Weapons/Weapons.lua Then I pulled the ammo mixes from each gun from the DCS World/CoreMods/WWII Units/SpitfireLFmkIX/Spitfire.lua Other then the Mustang all the WWII units weapons info are in the single Weapons.lua (with the path above) and each plane has it's load out in the WWII Units folder in a lua under the directory of the aircraft's name (just like the Spit lua above). One thing that I have noticed that I find interesting. If there is no plan to allow people to adjust their ammo belt then why have they created so many extra kinds of ammunition that are not used in the default loadout. The .303 Brownings have 14 types of ammo but only a hand full are even used in the default loadout. The 109's MK 108 cannon also has a tracer round built into the sim but again, it is not part of the loadout.
-
Hopefully, that is exactly what we will get. When I mod my own gun loadout in single player that is exactly what I load it out with, AP then Incendiary (De Wilde) rounds and it works awesome.

I was doing some research on the DCS Spit and came across your post and seeing as how I was already doing this breakdown for my own reasons I thought you may want it as well based on your post. So here is the current DCS Spitfire ammunition loadout translated from numbers into types of ammunition, so you know what exactly is in the belt and in what order. As you can see they did keep the Observer rounds and like you, I agree they are useless however DCS does have them configured and tagged as HE rounds in the coding, with explosives inside. So, maybe they will be more effective on here. So here you go: Hispano MkII x 2 (Both cannons are configured with the same ammo belt) 3, 1, 3, 2 = HE, AP, HE, HET LH Inner Browning .303 8, 3, 3, 11, 3, 3, 13, 3, 3, 14 = Tracer, Ball, Ball, Armor Piercing, Ball, Ball, Incendiary HE (De Wilde), Ball, Ball, Observer LH Outer Browning .303 3, 8, 3, 11, 3, 13, 3, 3, 14 = Ball, Tracer, Ball, Armor Piercing, Ball, Incendiary HE (De Wilde), Ball, Ball, Observer RH Inner Browning .303 3, 3, 11, 8, 3, 3, 3, 3, 14, 13 = Ball, Ball, Armor Piercing, Tracer, Ball, Ball, Ball, Ball, Observer, Incendiary HE (De Wilde) RH Outer Browning .303 11, 3, 3, 8, 3, 13, 14 = Armor Piercing, Ball, Ball, Tracer, Ball, Incendiary HE (De Wilde), Observer

SithSpawn, I'm very interested in investigating this as I have played with the convergence on my Spits guns in Single Player and it makes a world of difference. With the current settings, I feel like I can't hit anything unless I almost fly into the target in front of me and most of the time can't get that close. Before I delve into the research I was hoping you might be able to better define the idea of "substantial proof". In the case that Krupi mentioned of the out of cockpit settings for the 109 & 190, is that something that proof was provided for or just part of the simulation? If proof was provided, would you be able to point me in the direction of this? I really want to get a solid idea of what would pass as "substantial proof". Thanks

Has anyone found any information now that the Spit is out that tells us definitively what distance the guns are set to converge at in DCS? This can be found for the Mustang, however, at this point, I have not been able to find it for the Spit. Thanks

Not sure if its the F-86 or the MiG-15....
Alphazulu replied to Capn kamikaze's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
If .50 were useless then how do you account for all the Migs downed by them and all the WW2 birds downed by them? Also, how do you account for pilots that downed multiple Migs in a single flight without re-arming? They increase the size of the rounds and the velocity as the size, strength, and speed of aircraft increase. It makes no sense to say, well since the size and speed of ammo increases with the size, strength, and speed of aircraft, therefore slower smaller ammo against older, slower, smaller and weaker aircraft is ineffective. So I guess that means that two maxim machines guns on a Fokker D7 are useless against a Sopwith Camel....the reason....because two maxim machine guns are useless against a Spitfire???? This reminds me of a guy that started arguing that canons have always been better than machine guns. He then went on to say how early canons just fired slowly and had lots of jams etc...however as time passed and the canons rate of fire and reliability increased the canons were perfected. So in short, his argument was canons were always better (if you ignore the problems they had on early canons) -

I do realize that....That is why I specifically said, "Of course, you didn't see me hit anything vital" in my post. I know that this is not the damage but the visuals that are loaded for damage. My point was that even if the damage does occur it is not displayed therefore not showing the damage that was inflicted by the guns. This causes Mig pilots to look at their aircraft and either say you missed or there is little to no damage caused by the 50s. This is becausee the visual damage is not reprisented on the Mig. -
I have a question in regards to the damage model. I have been flying both the P-51D and the 109 K4 since the day they were released. In that time, I've been totally shredded in both of those aircraft by all types of guns. However, to this day (2/7/17) I have not once had the cockpit glass in my 109 shot out, I have never had the gun site knocked out with. Also, I have never had my guns get damaged eliminating my ability to fight on. Every time, I fly the P-51D I get my cockpit shot out at least once, and in turn knocks out my gun site and bullets in the wing mean no guns on that side. Concerning the cockpit could this be the cause. Copied from DCS damage Lua files Every other plane: ["COCKPIT"] = {critical_damage = 1, args = {189}}, ["CABIN_LEFT_SIDE"] = {critical_damage = 2, args = {189}}, ["CABIN_RIGHT_SIDE"] = {critical_damage = 2, args = {153}}, Bf-109 K4 Damage Lua: ["COCKPIT"] = {critical_damage = 1, args = {189}}, -- TODO Thanks,

Ya, "Trustee" is an understatement. Especially since damage modeling to that gun doesn't exist in DCS. Sure I'll take any gun that CANNOT be knocked out over any gun that can. One shot to the nose of Sabre knocks out guns, windshield and gun site. How many times has your canon been knocked out of commission from being damaged....the answer...never...because the code does not exist in DCS. How many times has you Mig's cockpit glass been shot out and your gun sight knocked out....never....becuase the code does not exist. Ya, all those 50 it takes to knock you down must be accurate as well. It's not taking a ton of 50 cal shells...the problem is they are all missing from warped gun barrels that didn't exist. I love how Mig pilots try to tell me "you didn't hit anything vital" after looking at their own plane. Of course, you didn't see me hit anything vital....for the Mig, only the wings are set up to show damage. Here is direct code taken from F-86 and Mig-15 Lua files in the damage section. F-86F DamageParts = { [1] = "F-86F-oblomok-wing-R", -- wing R [2] = "F-86F-oblomok-wing-L", -- wing L --[3] = "F-86F Sabre-nose", -- nose [4] = "F-86F-oblomok-F3", -- tail Same Section from Mig-15 Lua DamageParts = { [1] = "MiG_15bis_oblomok__wing_R", [2] = "MiG_15bis_oblomok__wing_L", Where's the rest of the damage for the Mig???? -
Ya, as it is right now it is terrible. You can't use the rudder or the rudder trim. A single click on rudder trim causes the plane to yaw all over the place. The current rudder is making aiming the weapons very difficult...especially for an aircraft with a reputation as such a sturdy gun platform.

Any more updates Before I download and run this Vietnam 1.1 update can anyone tell me if there are anymore updates (preferably the final version or latest version)? If so where can I find them. There are a lot of pages on this thread now. Looks great! Thanks Skyway! Alpha

Hi All, I wanted to make a post clarifying some of the comments I made in my other post about my experience on this server. I posted some comments about some rather advanced things I have had the opportunity to do on this server. I don't want these comments to rub anyone the wrong way or scare off anyone that may be interested in joining us on this server. The comments I made about IFR landings in 0 visibility, formation flying, chasing cruise missiles and other challenging aspects of what you can do on this server are in no way things that you need to know how to do to come on here. In fact, most of these things I was lucky enough to learn on this server under the guidance of these guys. So whether you want to take up these challenges right away, fly entirely for fun or learn how to do these things at a slow no pressure pace you will be welcomed here. LRRP constantly tells me...."I'm in no hurry here" No elitists here, just fine flying and good comradery.....see you in the Sky!!! Alpha

Cool Sobe, glad to hear it. Alpha

Sobe, In order to reduce what you need to do I think the best approach may be to first go to the start menu and then programs and find the Egle Dynamics folder then DCS Open Beta folder. In there you will see "Repair DCS World Open Beta". If you run that it will repair whatever is wrong with that install. After that, you can check and see if it now works. Then remove the other modules that you don't want via the module manager. If you need to adjust the version just use the instruction provided to do so. Hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else I can do. Alpha
-
Yes, you can use the "Open Beta Version". I have three installs as well and I have the standard install up to the latest patch and my "Beta" install is at the version specified in this thread. You would still follow the directions they provided to set the version but you would run the "DCS_Updater.exe update 1.5.3.53279" from the DCS World OpenBeta bin directory rather than the DCS World bin directory. FYI- You use the "update" command regardless of what your current version is. Even if your version is newer than this one, you would still use the "update" command and specify the version. Hope this helps Alpha

Can anyone explain to me why when I download the EDM plugin that says it works for 3DS Max 2008+ and shows 2008 in the screen shots for the install now only has 2010 and 2014 as options? http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/EDM_plugin#EDM_Export_Toolbar Thanks,

My Experince on this server I wanted to post my experience concerning this server. I'm a huge F-86F fan and love this aircraft with a passion. I have been sorely disappointed by the game play that exists in default DCS concerning the Sabre and Mig-15. I have been flying this module since the day it was released and have tried many servers including the Sierra Hotel events and while I'm able to outfly any opponent I have come up against I have been frustrated to no end by chasing (and catching) Migs that I fill full of holes and then end up running out of ammo to no effect. Of course, after years of flying this aircraft I still get to listen to noobs tell me how I must be doing something wrong. The final draw for me is when the Sabre was released out of beta and the training missions were added. In the gun training mission, you can set endless ammo and sit on the six of a non-maneuvering Mig and after your first burst you can watch as all the rest of the rounds harmlessly fly by in a shotgun pattern. Or when I play online and Mig lovers tell me how "I didn't hit anything vital" while they continue to fly and fight with no tail, both black and white smoke streaming out of their flying wreck that no longer has an enclosed canopy. I have now spent many hours flying with these extremely knowledgeable gents (one of whom is an actual pilot) and have never had more fun in any simulator I have ever flown. No...it is not made easy; it is just made correct. On this server I find myself flying an F-86F against a Mig-15 bis not a F-86A vs a Mig-15 bis like the default files have you doing. They fly mission oriented operations with multiple aspects ranging from formation flying to ground attack to AWACS escort to dogfighting to defending a naval vessel from cruise missiles dropped from a Bear Bombers at 15 thousand feet all while being coordinated by a dedicated JTAC with a radar screen in front of him and a passion for “doing it right!” Cause if you don’t do it right, you’re going to do it again! The missions never play out the same why twice and can be flown from morning until night without ever covering the same ground twice. They are long, hard, accurate and more than anything FUN! I have learned how to fly and land making a 0 visibility radar guided approach. I have also found the true meaning of a wingman flying on here. No more sitting on TS with guys that have nothing to say or provide useless or no information only to watch teammates crash into each other trying for the same kill. No longer asking someone to watch my six to find out later he didn’t follow as rounds slam into my six. This is not a run and gun server, if that is what you want look elsewhere.…..If you want intense challenging play that is extremely dynamic look no further. Cheers guys, the amount of work you have put into this server is amazing and the amount of time you allocate every week to helping people learn is awe inspiring and I can’t thank you enough! Well I figured that but I want to know which one.

Dude where are you flying over in the second screen shot you posted??? That mountainous background looks amazing!!! Alpha

Yo Skate, What ever happened to this skin pack (shown on page 2 of this thread)? I never was able to find it posted anywhere was it ever released? This post was a preview of an upcoming new pack but I never heard of it getting released. Will these skins still work or were these made prior to the chrome change that broke the old chrome skins that worked in 1.5.3 and prior? I like your old ones as well but these are really cool too and truth be told these are truly like the skins used in the the F-86 trailer. Thanks, Alpha

Thanks...I gave this a try and yes it split the screen in pit but the split was perfectly 50 50 with no distortion around the edges. When viewed through the Gear VR the images did not match up and just looked like double vision or being way to drunk. FYI- for other people I see a lot of people on here discussing ways to stop Oculas software from running....this really isn't necessary. For people with this issue make sure you are installing "Intugame Gear VR" software and on your phone and not Intugame. They are different apps and even through the Intugame app has a setting for Gear VR it still launches the Oculas software and gets in the way. The Intugame Gear VR app works correctly and stops to Oculas app from running when putting the phone in. Alpha

When I go to Monitors (don't see any "display" settings) and change it to stereo it just shows half of the DCS window on half od the monitor. It does not show them side by side. Thanks, Alpha

Hi Aries, I tried this setup but I am wondering how you got it to render DCS in side by side mode to use a cardboard or Gear VR? The video is streaming to my phone over Wifi but if I launch DCS it just comes up normal. Thanks, Alpha

Alphazulu replied to Capn kamikaze's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Hi Buzzles, I can appreciate what you are asking about the technical details on the M3s however.... 1) I don't have the time to go and research M3 machine guns just to spend the next couple of weeks defending my stats to other people. 2) It's not my job and DCS/Belsimtek is certainly not paying me to do it. I have my own profession as a Network Engineer which requires me to do a lot of research online already. 3) When end users send me requests concerning technologies I have implemented my solution is not "go research the problem yourself". They pay me to do that just like all of us have payed DCS/Belsimtek to research these specs. 4) If I did spend a lot of time putting together all the specs and DCS/Belsimtek decided to make a change they aren't going to listen to me anyway and I wouldn't expect them to. I would expect them to conduct their own independent research making my research pointless. Cheers Alpha
