reported Triple screen problem with first-person view Visor effect
Czar replied to Blueleader's topic in Multi-Display Support
It is obviously a bug. The overlay that reduce brightness wasn't made to take into consideration triple screens. I hope ED is fixing it soon. Maybe it is very simple to do. -
lol Yeah, out of those, I really miss the Caucasus textures. But it is a map a rarely go/make missions/generate missions with. : D fascinating, I hope your stay(s) have been impeccable because it is a tough country to ''experience''...apologies if I got that wrong... Stars yes, we do. I've been stargazing a lot here throughout life, enough to be disappointed in sims which don't get the night sky right. I live in a big city. Northeast. Light pollution is a factor, although not severe. I'll save this night sky one. This is useful and a long overdue fix. Absolutely crucial imo. Saw it earlier in the week. Consider your words mine as well. ED should look more into these mods... That would do it. And a easy to find button to boot the sim clean, without mods in order to make troubleshooting easier and a valid bug report. Lots of times ''bugs'' are results by mods in bug reports in the forum throughout the years and people can easily lose track of what has been modified if patches don't clean the base sim files. I know I would if it was back in the day when I used to install a lot of them using JSGME (I think it is the name) including a massive Caucasus textures mod. I prefer my sim to be as clean as possible today for simplicity. Even if it is missing out on some eye candy. It makes also a valid install for quick bug verification if I see someone on the bug report section having trouble. The fixes to lights LOD, Caucasus textures, Night Sky mod and the Weather one are quality stuff to have. I agree. Thanks, Max!

Hah, good call! All modified files goes to a ''_backup.000-001-002 etc...'' inside DCS root folder. The nuisance lies on copying those files which have their folder structures intact back to the root folder. No module manager needed although I run DCS pretty lean on mods. Only 1 NVG mod (absolute goat btw) and that's it for me. Cheers

You're allowed to do it. Please don't get me wrong, I don't care why you do you. I'm just pointing out a better direction to make and edit missions in the Saved Games folder than to force a dev to make a new system for the customer to pick and chose different levels of base content integrity. Won't happen. I gave you a path there instead of having your work wiped out every patch. Cheers.
-
You can always make your own missions or save them as new files instead of modifying base content, right? I don't know. It seems like too much tuning for accommodating customizing base files. I don't think even the devs would want that to happen for good reasons (bugs caused by the user). The player can always make their own content and keep them in the Saved Games folder that's never tempered by patches and repair procedures.
-
It doesn't. It only touches what is changed with the patch or it fixes back to original files any deleted or modified base files.

What I wrote was to help people update their sim not to ''provide an ultimate solution'', to be clear. I have a long standing beef with this type of patching and massive files. DCS is not the only one that does this, and I don't know if there is another way in relation to upgrading maps. I think about the maps subject that's just the nature of the beast. About the ''uninstalled other games''. Welcome to the club! Per GB, DCS still is more enjoyable than other games despite its massive size. Next steps are to acquire 2TB or more dedicated SSD for DCS and be in bliss.... for a while.....

I see now. Thank u, guys.

I know they maintain and bug fixes the weapons, as I mentioned in ''handing over the keys''.

Enable mouse look in external views (noob issue)
Czar replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
Double middle mouse click or the same command to toggle mouse look/mouse pointer in the cockpit. Double middle mouse click is hardcoded into the sim.- 1 reply

Oh heavens. That doesn't sound good. ED should not be busy with 3rd party weapons meanwhile having their own modules and core updates to do alongside.... This should go to 3rd party. Am I wrong on this? Maybe that ''we'' is a way to say as in co-operation with HB as ED themselves will implement into DCS? Now that's the weirdest thing I've heard about DCS this year... sounds awful. Thanks.
-
hmmmm....now that's a head scratcher... ED never announced being busy with the many F-4 weapons or any other 3rd party weapons, throughout the years.... it was all meant to be a develop and hand over the ''keys'' to ED to maintain weapons wise. Could it be the case for the HB info there be the exception to the rule? Deka can be wainting for ED to implement their weapon (code) into the sim, that's how I imagined it would go. I'm sure CMs have the answer to that. All I can do from this point is guessing. Cheers.
-
ED takes over after 3rd party develops it. HB did the Phoenixes, same goes for the old F-4 weapons and handed over to ED. Correct me if I'm wrong. Functionalities I mean, not just art.
-
Why? 3rd party are often responsible for weapons development and after they hand the code to ED, no?

Draken above seems to be correct. Uncheck that watch icon button on the bottom of the ME screen to disable historical filters. A common bug whenever a new unit is introduced into the sim.
-
Probably Kola and Normandy update. I don't have neither and mine got patched very quickly with 500GB of free space. Uninstall 1 of those maps if there isn't enough space then reinstall later. Patching can duplicate assets such as maps before patching.

Just reading the changelog now. Solid patch! Visors for the two awesome jets, Hornet and Viper! ...if I read it right. Good start. I hope all others receives it too.

Overexposure is not affected by lens effects, only when looking directly at the sun.

Normal. Screens have a variety of types and tech on every type of electronic. VA vs IPS for monitors are wildly different in the extreme values especially on darks, for example. Each manufacturer has also different screen calibrations. All you said is pretty normal. It would be surprising if it were the other way around. Among flat screens there are a number of different screen types, VR goggles, cellphones, tvs...etc. If you have crushed blacks on your VR goggle, consider adjusting its ''black levels'' if there is any to chose. Usually they come with ''normal'' or ''low'' on monitors. If you're using full range on ''output dynamic range'' (nVidia control panel. Whatever is called on AMD control panel) consider switching to ''limited''. It will bring the low values back up and tune down the contrast. nVidia control panel->Change resolution->Output Dynamic Range - Limited. Alternatively, bring DCS gamma up if it doesn't overblow clouds. If it does, there may have other methods on the VR hardware itself, which would be best in order not to mess with your monitor settings.

It is a universal value for digital to screens. Doesn't matter the screen. You should adjust to fit your needs. But when mastering a visual media, the artist should be at 2.2 because that's a value most electronics are around/made to be at.

I hope to see something new from Heatblur about the F-14 special effects. Those overwing/tenis court vapors and afterburner effects had already shown their age. Especially how muted down the afterburners are in dim lighting in comparison to real life. vs

@Raven (Elysian Angel) and @ThorBrasil are both right. 2.2 is the neutral gamma visual industry wise (refer to external sources), but that value in DCS is off balance with over exposure. There are much worse offenders out there, btw. DCS still looks good. All games have their look based on artistic vision, DCS just happens to be one of the few that references the industrial value being the default 2.2, which is correct. Use a lower gamma to counter over exposure and the lack of a tinted visor. ...even for calibrated monitors without any blown up whites. (we need those visors across all modern modules...)

If you have a HOTAS analog switch as a mouse you can do those with the ''F2'' external view view without editing any .lua file. Tiny inputs on the analog. There are bindings for the ''mouse look'' speeds if you want it even slower. Camera View Mouse Rate (fast, normal and slow).
