  1. ROUND SOMETHING WHEN what are we even up to now also redfor best for thx
  2. with the terrain mods, i meant. sorry. it's still papering over a hole, but it does make it slightly better if you make certain changes.
  3. it becomes better, but not good.
  4. that isn't a strawman, it's a red herring at best. but asking why one missile made in the same era as another using the same homing type is useless while another is exceptional is legit anyway
  5. >implying this hasn't been a quote function for like a billion fuggin years since like ancient history they were writing > on caveman walls get with the program sweep anyway whatever man i just don't like GG "paid to troll" tharos comes on the forums and basically tells someone with legitimate concerns about a flight model he is at least partially responsible for to screw off. i'd suggest an alternative: maybe he can tell us "ED is working on it" or "ED is not working on it" or, if the OP's concerns are illegitimate (admittedly they are not) he can say "you are wrong about X thing and this is why" or simply not post at all. which isn't what he does. he has a history of taunting people: see any thread about R27 where he will inevitably come in to piss people off and then after about 20 pages grudgingly admit that missile modelling is completely screwed across the board. just like this thread, and i'm sure the next 5 calling attention to some totally busted aspect of the sim.

    Missiles

i never use mig-21 radar missiles, and that is because realistically you will never get in parameters. DCS combat takes place almost exclusively on the deck, where the radar is useless and furthermore your only real chance is a beam/tail on shot from ambush, where the radar is strictly a hindrance anyway.
  7. >sure everything about our model is wrong including the airframe surviving and the flight model allowing it to happen >but i'll come to this thread and troll anyway thanks GG always appreciate your visits
  8. it's not a straw man at all it's comparing one missile to another in the game as it currently exists. explain how that is a straw man, which deals with assuming that an opponent in an argument espouses a certain idea or ideology that they have never advocated? thanks
  9. what are you even talking about my man in real life there is no such thing as display sizes and resolutions, so there definitely IS exactly one realistic setting. you may have to abstract it a little but there is no reason anybody should have an advantage while at a specific resolution, if there is such an advantage it is because the system is flawed.
  10. the weirdest thing about the whole thing is that smart-scaling is derived from a freely-available university paper and could probably be replicated in an afternoon by someone of reasonable skill. why we didn't have this a decade ago, that's the real question. it's not as if this is some arcane magic. it's literally right there in several other sims and working perfectly fine across the board.
  11. to use mavericks: TGP SOI TMS forward to IR POINT hold TMS foward 2 seconds MAV SOI china hat forward hold 2s wait until maverick slews to target TMS UP SHOOT
  12. my advice my man, is to stop expecting FC3 to work especially the more neglected parts of it
  13. closing to 2km~ is often a suicide mission. 3.5~ allows reasonable accuracy while maintaining standoff against hidden shilkas.
  14. you have ~500 rounds and you carry the gun always. you may as well load ammo for it. even shooting at near max range you can still kill 4-8 IFVs with the cannon load, which is quite a few. if you get closer you could probably kill 15+ with just the API alone. expending ammo is not a crime, you may as well carry it. it's not weightless but if you choose not to carry it you're carrying a useless cannon as dead weight. by "accurate" i mean "you can kill things at it's max range" you might have to expend ~2 trigger pulls at long burst at ~4km but if you are killing IFVs you may as well use the cannon instead of your vikhrs because the vikhrs are far more deadly to heavy armor.
  15. KA-50 cannon is pretty accurate, if you are having trouble hitting things you should record video because that does not fit my experience at all. max is right though, i generally use long burst and hold the trigger to it's max duration, wait ~.5 seconds or so and then shoot again. cannon is a perfectly effective weapon, and it gets more effective the closer you are (within reason)
  16. nonlethal lethal you
  17. sukhoi at least has EOS which can usually maintain lock through the notch in tail aspect. annoying for everyone else though.
  18. when near VMAX, do not induce violent pitch, especially down, do not induce violent roll, especially right, do not induce violent rudder, especially right if you think you are going to have to do violent maneuvers, maintain <220kph don't exceed VMAX unless you are flying in a perfectly straight line, better yet don't exceed VMAX.
  19. oh, and i should register my protest about the simplistic at best vehicle modelling. you know it would be different maybe if there were actually real armor simulation, terrain simulation, ground vehicle systems modelling etc. but DCS' ground vehicle modelling is simple. VERY simple. i mean what are we paying for here? a model of a tiger that is essentially a T-55 that looks different with a slightly different healthbar? eh. the whole thing is pretty sour.
  20. he meant "nickel-and-diming features that should have been in the game in the first place, such as dedicated servers, and units to fit the time period of the game (which we are still missing to this day for georgia, let alone everything else) i'm not sure about this move, honestly. obviously they have to make money to stay afloat but where is it all going, exactly? 60+ bucks per plane, 60+ bucks per map, a constant release schedule of everything BUT things to fill in the rather sparse environment, and they have to charge extra for a bunch of units that should be included with the historical map? i don't see it, personally. and the slope with these things is always rather slippery: see paradox, bohemia, and every other triple-A dev in the last 10 years.
  21. i have to wonder if this is really wise
  22. the answer is the same answer as "how do you get your foot out of a beartrap once you have stepped in the beartrap" the answer is, you don't. unless you are very lucky. assuming the enemy has MRMs you will die on the run out. if you don't think you can win WVR, don't go to WVR. you are an eagle, you can easily avoid it in nearly 100% of scenarios.
  23. yeah. the KA-50's cannon at anything past 2.2~km is more like a grenade launcher than an actual gun. the trajectory is anything but flat and it probably bleeds off a great deal of it's already inferior KE before reaching the target. i'd bet there's even more of a disparity if you measure energy when arriving at target between GAU/8 and kamov's flexgun. though i've had moderate success in killing T-55 from rear aspect with AP-I if you get unrealistically and dangerously close, probably indicating that DCS models the basics of impact velocity rather than just muzzle velocity.
  24. well, armor piercing pierces armor. but not all armor. just like HE means it's explosive but not necessarily that you can blow up a city with one shell. KA-50 AP-I can crack light/medium armor, but not tanks. save your vikhrs for those and the cannon can handle anything else. the recoil of the cannon / rockets is also much less if you are heading forward at medium+ speed and holding the trimmer.
  25. the cannon won't crack abrams anyway. you should record video or tacview though. that doesn't fit my experience at all. even with API i regularly achieve kills against light armor at <3.6~ KM or so. HE is even easier because it has a bit more splash to it. IMO, as long as you haven't detected SAMs there is no reason not to use the cannon. it's effective enough and you're carrying the ammo anyway. it's actually less risky to use than rockets, with a superior range and flexibility. but then, i generally use the KA-50 like an actual gunship instead of a hovering turret, just because it's more fun that way. granted, it's way more dangerous but eh.
