  1. Which file is modified? I'm going to give it a try as well. Thanks! DrDetroit
  2. Cool...I'm going to give this another go in a few minutes and see if I can accomplish this. Sounds like solid advice Yurgon. My problem thus far has been keeping from hitting the deck trying to break through the clouds at steer 3 and/or4. I'm sure the SA9 will be the next hurdle. Even if I stay below the cloud base, those mountains make for very treacherous flying with the cloud base below the mountain tops, let alone having to acquire target, shoot, and boogie home. I got caught in a valley last time and all sides of the valley the mountains shot into the clouds and I just couldn't pull up and out fast enough...bam! I thought I had made it, as I was starting to climb out of the clouds into sunshine, but still ran into the mountain. Great mission, and should learn alot once I figure out the details. Good day for flyin'! DrDetroit
  3. It's the Enemy Within - I believe it's the 4th mission. You have a 3-slight ship, fly north-east and hit a base just south of the Russian border. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1286622/ Low cloud base, it raining, and the rain turns to snow at altitude. It's beautiful above the clouds, as it about 6am and the sun is just popping up and over the horizon. No JTAC so I can't get the target coords into the nav system or I'd just CCRP.
  4. Hey guys, I'm stuck yet again with a strike mission where there is a cloud base at about 10k, target is near the Russian border to the north...deep in those tall mountains to the north/north-east of my base at Kubuletti (SP?). -Thanks Baltic Dragon...it's one of your mission...superb BTW!- So I approach the IP above the cloud base at about 15k. If I go into those mountain ranges below the cloud base, I can't get out fast enough without hitting a mountain, and you can't see shit down there. So is my tactical assumption correct; I should get below the cloud base at my IP, as I'm carrying mk82AIR and M151 rocket pods (I'm thinking Mavs and LGBs are no good without being able to acquire a visual) and the target is located close to the cloud base, maybe 1000'-1500' under it? Also, the target is in a deep valley and the cloud base is below the mountain peaks. My first issue is I keep slamming into the mountain trying to roll into the valley to get low and fast. I assume I just need better SI as far the the area goes and need to figure out best ingress. My main question is what is the best loadout for this type of mission? Is my assumtion that Mavs and LGBs would be ineffective in those conditions? What loadouts should be used...is using dumb bombs, rockets and GAU the best option? Also, how the heck do you visually acquire a target like that? It's a small guerrilla base, with a SA9 right in the midst of it all, and if I can get below the cloud base safely, then what!? That SA9 is going to get me -no? Thanks in advance guys. This one seems a bit tricky. Good day, DrDetroit
  5. Thanks guys, this is what I was looking for. Will study this stuff after work today. Great posts everyone, should help sort out when and how to do a popup and P*Funk's description of the attack wheel/circle setup. Will prob have more questions once I get a chance to dig into these helpful posts. Good day! DrDetroit
  6. So, question regarding proper approach and technique for low altitude GUA-8 gun run...or pop up bomb run I suppose falls into this as well; what is the proper and acceptable USAF tactic and procedure (A-10 related)? I'm trying to get a handle on how a A-10 pilot is taught to enter, execute and exit this particular situation. Let me know if I have the procedure down with the following example, or what I got wrong/missed - this is what I gathered from the few A-10 cockpit footage of gun runs I could find: - I'm rolling in on the target at say 500ft, coming in on a sam or aaa target. - I have to keep the target off nose about 30-degrees while coming in low alt (to help keep any sensors from locking me). - When about 2.5 to 3-miles out from target, start quickly pulling up to about 1000'-1500', level off and turn into the target to line up gun pipper. (hard part for me) -two or three short burst with the gat and roll off target 90-degrees and hit the deck again. So if I miss the target on the first run, or need to make a 2nd/3rd pass, what is the procedure for rolling back in on a target you just nailed. Do I just gain some distance and 180 back in or more to it? I'm having a bit a trouble with this type of action...so I ask the experts here. Like I said earlier, not a lot of of this info that I could find in any practical form. Thanks in advance, DrDetroit
  7. Didn't realize you're the guy...so thanks much for the awesome pit...it's fantastic!!!! Great thanks! Good day! DrDetroit
  8. You are correct Jateu. There is loads of info about how the systems function but nothing on how they are to be employed. Anyhow, I guess the best option is to join a hi-fidelity online squadron and/or watch youtube vids on things like how to enter a proper dive to put that pipper on target quickly, then what to do after you've done that so you can survive to brag about it. Good luck! See you in the wild blue yonder! DrDetroit
  9. No no...not your campaign, sorry if it came off that way. I've flown that mission like 10-times already, and that only happened twice in a row. The other 8-times, one of the three SAM sites got me instead. Like I said, I chalked it up to over-stressing too fast, too hard with too much weight on the wings. BTW: One heck of a campaign, I' loving it. Thank you for creating it and uploading...appreciated! Good day, DrDetroit
  10. Not sure if the question directed to me, however, yes - Ricardo's pit is very nice indeed. I'm keeping it! Good day! DrDetroit
  11. Same here...had the same wing break off twice in a row flying the same mission in the campaign Enemy Within...checked TacView for both instances and no ground fire. This was during the 3rd or 4th Enemy Within scenario (three SAM sites to kill), never had it happen before and doesn't happen all the time with that mission either. Never had it happen with any other mission, jut chalked it up to over-stressing an ageing air-frame or something. Good day! DrDetroit
  12. The link to Ricardo's A10C pit has been truncated. Can you try reposting the full link...did a search and nothing came back. EDIT: Found it! Sorry guys. Thanks DrDetroit
  13. WOW! In that video post above, love the voice overs, it sounds very professional. Did you do all those from scratch? Great feel to the mission with all the chatter from the vid. Seems like a lot going on...looking forward to flying this one. DrDetroit
  14. I'm still learning the A-10C, so just my sense of things...seems to me you should be proficient w/out the TGP before learning it's usefulness. Basics are the foundation of proper flying techniques, especially when getting shot at and in close contact at the FLOAT. If you don't know how to use the A/C, how can one be proficient with the A/C and all the goodies that are added on. Easier said than done though...isn't it. Good Day! DrDetroit
  15. That's why we have these wonderful forums with guy/gals whom know their s**t inside and out. I'd still be figuring out what a SPI is, or SOI without them (soy sauce - what'd you say?). Thanks Yurgon! That's what I was looking for. Good day! DrDetroit
  16. Great! Thanks guys, this is very helpful info. Nevyn, that was my next question actually...how to properly spool down, in order to spool right back up in same mission. I don't have my intercom mapped...didn't know I needed it until now. I have my mic-switch mapped with fore, aft and down....I'll add up and use that for my intercom (TM A10-Warthog HOTAS). This must have been my main issue with no-reply at all from ground crew. Thanks again fellas'! DrDetroit
  17. Oh, I see. I was using the UHF radio(tower) and requesting that way. So I can just pull up, open that canopy and request. Cool, I'll try that. Thanks! Any idea how to keep my wingman from parking, instead of rearming/refueling? Thanks again P*Funk! DrDetroit
  18. So how do I get the MAV to lock quickly in a low level attack? I'm having issue with this part. I slew the MAV to the targeting pod SPI I set to the target (sam), then I turn my attention to the MAV MFD. When I start slewing the MAV to the SAM target it doesn't want to lock right away. The MAVs already slewed to the SPI, but will not lock until I SOI the MAV MFD and move it around the SPI manually until I get a lock. In other words, I can't launch until I take over the MAV manually and slew it around for a bit, even though it's already looking at the target via the targeting pod. Hope my explanation makes sense. Seems like I'm missing a step, shouldn't the MAV be ready to fire once I have it pointed at the SPI via the targeting pod? Thanks and good day! DrDetroit
  19. Ok, so I was finally able to kill all the SAMs in the 2nd Jackal campaign mission (after like 8-attempts - that SA19 got me every time!) and now it was time to contact JTAC for the final targets. However, I needed to rearm/refuel in order to complete the final task with JTAC, so I land, park and request rearm/refuel at my base. Never received a response from the ground crew at all when I made the request, and my wingman parked in a hardened hangar and closed the doors...mission over before it was over...now I gotta do it again. So after looking through the forums here, I find out that you need to spool off the engines in order to accomplish the rearm/refuel....why didn't I think of that? So question is when I park, do I need to completely shut the jet down (electrical, CDU, etc), or just kill the engines? Also, how to keep my wingman from parking and calling it a day? I'd like him to rearm/refuel as well, not park and go home. Thanks in advance, DrDetroit
  20. Like PFunk said, I would start with the in-game options and program your HOTAS that way. Then, when you start understanding this, start using the software to take the HOTAS to the next level. For the rudder axis, program that via the "AXIS" button, located in the in-game options controller menu. This is where all the axis are set to the appropriate controller. Good luck! DrDetroit
  21. Great work again! Thanks for posting. I always learn something new with your vids. Good day! DrDetroit
  22. Good to hear you got it working. Enjoy! DrDetroit
  23. I had a similar problem that took me over 7-8 hours to rectify. I had to get rid of TARGET and the Saitek software, then program the buttons via in-game controller option. I just picked up Saitek Combat Pedals and Warthog HOTAS the other day, and the Saitek software installed something called Mad Katz, which I think totally f'ed up my DCS install. Mad Katz caused a "!" on my HD when I checked my device manager. So I got rid of it. After deleting TARGET and Saitek software (and Mad Katz), had to do a Steam game integrity check, which found 90+ bad files. Steam dl and replaced the bad files and boom, I can now program my Warthog HOTAS and Saitek pedals via in-game menu. Get rid of the Saitek software if installed, that will probably fix your sim. After you remove the software, do the integrity/file check. Also, figured out I have various USB versions (my pc has 8-USB ports), and it matters which USB I use for the gear...which, from what I can tell, the one that functioned properly with my controller is any USB except 3.0 (I have 2.0, 3.0 and I think 1.1). Hard to tell, but may have 3.0 mixed up with the 1.1 version, as far as which ones work and which don't. Not sure how to determine which port is which, had to do trial and error for a bit. Good luck! DrDetroit
  24. You've probably tried this already, map the controller via options menu if you can. It's probably something w the controller software (SMART TECHNOLOGY) porking you setup/game. I bought a Warthog HOTAS and Saitek Combat Pedals yesterday, and had issue for 6-7 hours until I did the integrity check. Steam found something like 90+ bad or missing files (probably due to that TARGET software for the Warthog), about 90megs. Steam auto downloaded and installed/fixed everything within a few minutes. I fly F4 BMS also and I just program the HOTAS via that controller menu in-game as well...works and is nice and easy. Was frustrating as hell! Now I'm loving it...even though had a bit of a problem getting it to work, was very well worth it! Good luck! DrDetroit
  25. I had the same issue when trying to launch the game via TARGET (TM Software)...would stop in the middle of loading a mission, drops to Desktop and ask for Activation key, even though I have a Steam version. Then when it went back to loading the game, it could not locate any mission briefing, so would take me back to the main menu. Finally, after hours and hours of frustration setting up my new controllers, to no avail, I did a Steam integrity check and that fixed everything. Oh, and I uninstalled that TARGET and Saitek software too. Good luck! DrDetroit
