  1. I'm sure I read about FFR v2 on either Reddit or the Pimax site. How big a difference it is I don't know. I did watch a Pimax video showing FFR giving equal and sometimes better framerates than DFR in flight sims, but I guess that's to be expected from the maker of the headset. I am a little skeptical of the marketing info, as the pictures they have on the Pimax site showing apparent differences in clarity between the Crystal and "other" headsets is obviously not real. I've never had a cockpit as blurry as those shown in this comparison - not even in Rift CV1. But I am convinced that the Crystal is a step up from anything I currently have - and I am already well impressed with my Pico 4 in DCS World. edit - just got an email and link to this: https://pimax.com/pages/crystal-light-estimated-shipping-time/?ref=imc&utm_source=Pimax+Newsletter&utm_campaign=d45db68baa-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_09_22_04_31_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-1bf68ce23d-[LIST_EMAIL_ID]&mc_cid=d45db68baa&mc_eid=72c2cf1fca Looks like mine will be processed in June and delivered in late July.
  2. You guys have far too much time on your hands.
  3. I see these are now arriving to the earliest customers. I probably have a couple of months to wait, having just ordered mine earlier this month, but I - and I'm sure many others - am very keen to find out how it performs in DCS World. So if anyone gets theirs soon, please do share your experiences, even if it's just a short post to say "great!", "not so good" or "it'll do"! Thanks
  4. Yes - this is a very good way to deal with it and what I always end up doing, despite the amount of excellent missions like TTI and so on. Hopefully will be possible for me to do it in the F-4E, too, at some stage, I've not totally given up. Yet.
  5. You've done an excellent job, no doubt. Unfortunately for me, despite having been eagerly awaiting this release, it has just made me realise what I had been fearing for some time now - that I'm just not up to flying these new modules in combat any more. I don't even know if I'll be flying it at all, yet. I supposed age gets to us all - some earlier than others and dependent on other conditions. I started realising when I was reading the pre-release manual. In all honesty, I've been struggling for a long time and often feel disconnected even in aircraft I've flown in the sim for over 10 years, with a decent guide on my kneeboard. Start-ups usually go fairly easily - but the deeper the simulation of other systems, the more I start to struggle. This is why I'm still only doing basic stuff in the F-16 and -18 and have totally given up on the Harrier and probably the Mirage 2k as well. That's another reason I was looking forward to FC4, but as it just adds modules I already own, it's a bit pointless for me. Still, you never know - if I get my head around start-up and navigation (not really looked properly at either just yet, in-sim) I could still do plenty of sight seeing in it, and I do like my navigation exercises. btw just to be clear I did fly these missions in days gone by - especially in the A-10C and Ka-50, I do know what they are like, it's just not happening any more.
  6. I've been quietly and patiently waiting for FC4 to come along, but there's nothing in it for me, so I'll be passing on this one. I have the FF modules of the new aircraft included - the one attraction was aircraft that aren't available elsewhere and if that's not going to be the case there's really no point for me - even at $10
  7. The way I understood it at the time of the Hawk was not that ED would continue development of a module - and this is how I see this particular episode possibly playing out according to that - but that an abandoned module could be updated as patches change the sim, so that it could continue to be used as the sim progresses. In other words, if it gets broken by a patch, they could try and fix it - not that they will continue to develop an EA module. *PS - just want to say I'm a neutral observer - have older RB products but not the F-15E.
  8. Apparently there will be a naval version at some point if all goes to plan. I think that would be far more suited to having British paint schemes and insignia, as it's far closer visually, to our own F-4K & M types (AKA FG.1 and FGR.2).
  9. I'm honestly really surprised to come across this thread this morning. When I bought the Apache I couldn't use it because it was such a slideshow. I tried it again last year and it was better, though still a bit problematic under certain circumstances. Last night I had a go again in my Pico 4 using Virtual Desktop and OpenXR with MT and it was solid. 90fps - and I kept the in-sim fps displaying during start-up at a busy aerodrome, which usually means half rates. I did notice my GPU fans were busy a lot of the time, but it may just be cos we're starting getting warmer weather here. Actual temps according to GPU-Z didn't rise above 64°C. It was a bit frustratingly slow to load up the textures, but I could say that about a few modules. Also frustrating that it then doesn't use the full capacity of my RAM and VRAM, but I'm not techinically minded enough these days to understand why that is. Might be a perfectly viable reason for it. Once the textures were loaded all was great and as readable as always. But VR performance-wise I was very impressed. *unfortunately I didn't take any screenshots, which I usually do.
  10. It isn't slow for my connection - and in fact it's the fastest transfer rate I've had from any server anywhere - so not exactly indicating a problem. Used to be considerably slower a couple of years back, but since 2.7 at least it has used the maximum my fibre to the cabinet line can manage. Call a spade a spade. Just because your line is capable of higher speeds - just like mine it has to deal with the fastest the various lines and junctions along the way can give it - doesn't mean if something isn't at the maximum you could possibly get that it's broken. Don't you download from othe rplaces? It's the same, regardless. In fact it's the fastest transfer rate for large updates for any flight sim I've seen. But I won't argue - if you want to rant, that's up to you. This does seem to be forum place for it.
  11. huh? Mine was faster than I've ever had! Been around from the start and normally since I got FTTC fastest transfer is 8.7Mbps - today it was well over 9.
  12. I forgot about the fxo and metashaders so thanx for reminding me. Started DL at 16:00 Zulu - took 75 minutes. Normally I wait a couple of days after a new module for things to settle down - seems this isn't necessary any more
  13. Were you around in 1987 (I reckon so)? Remember this.. "Some woman phoned the BBC earlier to say there was a hurricane on the way, well don't worry, there isn't...."? Famous last words... well unfortunately not last words - and denied for decades that he got it wrong. Must be a flight simmer.
  14. Yes, I think they are trying hard to improve not only their reputation, but also their actual service. I've had some issues and some general questions in the last week and everything has been answered and sorted out already by their support guys both on Reddit and by email, so it's positive so far.
  15. There are quite a few posts in this thread that make me feel embarrassed. Brilliant example of why decent dev's from other sims won't touch DCS World. That's not just an assumption, either.
  16. Does anyone know if Crystal accessories would fit the Crystal Light? From what I understand, it's the same headset just with tech removed. Same problem here
  17. I used to enjoy watching the Luftwaffe machines frequent visits to Gütersloh in the late '70's. Was also the first aircraft model I built. I did buy the one by SSW for the civvy sim and was rather underwhelmed, though - I'm really hoping that was due to that platform's limitations, and hope it's actually more impressive in DCS World.
  18. Was very close to pre-ordering the Crystal Light yesterday - only lingering doubts about the build quality kept me from doing so. As far as customer service is concerned I have probably heard as many good stories as bad by now, since Pimax started out, but the bad ones were very bad. Having said that, I'd heard similar stories about other product's support yet in my experience the vast majority of issues have been dealt with swiftly and in a way that left me impressed - by Valve and initially by Oculus, now Meta, but more recent experiences with them were not so good. Valve, in particular, have been exceptional in my personal experience, and have replaced my headset twice and I have had both controllers replaced outside of the warranty period - however reading some of the stories on Reddit and elsewhere would have one believe they are the devil incarnate. So these stories don't concern me as much as the build quality ones. I'm pretty sure I will end up getting a crystal Light, if Valve doesn't announce a new headset very soon. *edit: reserved the Crystal Light with Lighthouse Visor. If I find out Amazon UK will sell it, I'll cancel the order with Pimax and get it from Amazon instead.
  19. I strongly recommend buying the C-101 module. It's a trainer and everything for it is moulded around that principle. The training is like no other in DCS World and explains everything you will need to know. You can spend many hours flying it - as I have in the past - without any weapons to fire and without anyone trying to shoot at you. It also has an excellent manual that explains literally how everything works and why certain things happen. When you feel you have enough of an understanding of things you can just jump into the CC model and learn the basics of "blowing stuff up". From there you'll have an excellent grounding to learn the Hornet or any other combat aircraft. *edit: You might like to pop over to the Mudspike website and read the thread by BeachAV8R, who went through all the training with the C-101EB and then -CC and wrote up AARs for the journey, to see what it offers.
  20. It also has a lousy reputation for user security (and a poor attitude to it)
  21. This is what I was referring to - designated the GMPG (nicknamed Gimpy) in the British Army - as I mentioned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_MAG http://www.armedforces.co.uk/army/listings/l0096.html It has a fearsome reputation, with good reason.
  22. With reference to the terrain size. I confirmed on starting download that it was about 140GB and as the updater was showing an estimated transfer time of 10 hours and 40 minutes i was thinking of leaving my PC on minimum power (i.e. switch off everything connected that still leaves it running) overnight as I do with most big downloads. However, it was finished in around 3 hours -so not so bad after all. My usual max transfer rate is around 8Mbps with FTTC. Must be tightly packed or the ED torrent system working at full chat...
  23. Is that video at the top the one where the pilot got a bullet hole through the canopy on a runway denial mission (cos it looks like him on the still)? I recently read that story in Airfix Model World magazine. Still got back to base, but had to be lifted out of the cockpit iirc. I can't see a Jaguar ever coming to DCS World, but would like to have one - could see it being my main airframe. Used to be my favourite visiting aircraft at Gütersloh in the '70's. *btw it's been requested a number of times already so don't hold your breath
  24. I don't think I've been as hyped about a DCS release as I am for this since v2. Don't do anywhere near as much flying as I used to, mostly due to expected frustration since v2 - but I can't wait to get my teeth into the Phantom, along with the new terrains and the Chinook for the rotary chilling. Got some work going on in the house right now and unable to fly, but will definitely be ready for the 21st. I'll also be making pictorial guides for the kneeboard ASAP - I need them myself as this grey matter gets well into retirement age - and uploading them to Google and One Drive.
